CIVIC FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland has established a paid summer fellowship program for individuals early in their career seeking public service experience. This program invests in our local work force and fosters a passion for careers in the public sector. During the eight (8)-week program, fellows will work with a city department and participate in program-wide activities.
Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, up to 40 hours per week. For more information, visit cityofwoodland.org/1429/Civic-Fellowship-Program.
This fellowship posting is for the Utilities Engineering Assistant in the Community Development Department.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Utilities Engineering Assistant will be introduced to water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities. They will assist with water quality test result analysis and regulatory compliance, Sewer System Management Plan, water utility hydraulic model (depending on the candidate's background), and certain construction inspection tasks (depending on the candidate's background).
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from the designated City employee.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate would be someone interested in Civil Engineering and/or operation and management of public water and sewer utilities. A driver's license is required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of high school education
- Local Woodland knowledge preferred
- Interested in and/or studying Civil Engineering or a related field
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and perform multiple tasks with accuracy
- Possess a high degree of initiative
- Excellent meeting facilitation skills, including the ability to effectively present information to a wide variety of audiences
- Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Knowledge of a second language is beneficial.
License: A valid California Driver’s License

Salary Range
$19.00 - $24.00 / hour dependent on experience.
