The County of San Mateo Department of Public Works is looking for up to 2 summer interns to perform a variety of administrative and technical functions in the Engineering and Resource Protection Division. Interns will gain on-the-job experience under the guidance of experienced professional engineers, Public Works Technicians, and surveyors while participating in various activities in the assigned discipline.
College students in Associate, Undergraduate and Graduate Degree programs studying the following are encouraged to apply:

Examples Of Duties

• Scan, review, and file documents.

Qualifications

Job Description:  

The intern will work in the Public Works/Engineering Department and will be assisting engineering project managers with general clerical, administrative, field work, and technical tasks for public works projects.  Tasks may include electronic document filing, checking mathematical calculations, creating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel, preparing presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint, entering data and creating reports in various software applications, performing field data collection or investigation, construction management, internet research, creating map displays using Auto CAD, Google Maps/Earth, compiling and organizing data or documents.  The intern may also assist in other areas such as internal and external Department communication and public outreach.

HONORARY DEAN ALLISON INTERNSHIP

The City of San Rafael Public Works Department (DPW) is seeking an individual to join the team as part of the Honorary Dean Allison Internship program. This position will work part-time (up to 4 days/30 hours per week) with department staff on special projects and move forward the mission of San Rafael to support the community members we serve. 

The Honorary Dean Allison Internship was created to honor Dean Allison, the City’s Public Works Director from September 2015 to March 2016, before his untimely passing. In his brief time with the City, he embraced and embodied the ideals of public service and transparency. Duties and Responsibilities of the Honorary Dean Allison Internship may include:

• Assisting staff to develop and implement the City’s sidewalk maintenance program.
• Drafting, iterating, and designing policy to introduce the City’s tree ordinance, urban forestry initiative, and the City’s public asset inventory project 
• Assisting with the permitting, sediment, reporting and regulatory compliance in support of the City’s Dredging project.
• Designing content and materials for public dissemination and outreach regarding City projects, maintenance activities, and public safety information.
• Preparing written reports on DPW program activities.
• Creating, updating and auditing project financial spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting an undergraduate or graduate-level City Administration College Intern for the summer of 2024. This internship will provide a significant opportunity to gain experience and exposure and accumulate skills that are used daily in various city government programs that make substantial impacts to the community. THE POSITION:  The City of San Mateo’s Community Development Department has an opportunity for an intern to work on a number of projects. The City of Foster City has an opening for a Engineering Intern in the Public Works Department. The position is part-time with flexible scheduling, up to 980 hours per fiscal year, and no benefits provided. Community Outreach: Summer Youth Volunteers Project Plan 

The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience managing high school aged volunteers that will support a variety of summer camps and programs throughout the district.  

Key duties 

• Be primary point of contact for Summer Youth Volunteers. 

• Assist with volunteer orientation and ongoing training sessions throughout the summer. 

• Oversee volunteer schedule. 

• Track volunteer hours logging. 

• Create program completion documents. 

• Assist with planning end of summer recognition event. 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Maintain volunteer hour tracking and create end of summer recap report. 

• Complete summer training and check-in reports. 

• Create and distribute volunteer completion certification with hours totals for all summer volunteers. 

• Report any concerns from staff and volunteers or development opportunities for volunteers through regular check-ins.

Timing

Work hours will be Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, 40 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.
