The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem- solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.  The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community.

The Position

As a member of the HSD assigned to the AFS, the Senior Program Coordinator will organize, coordinate, and implement community wellness programs for older adults. The Community Programs include health promotion activities such as health screenings, wellness classes, and educational activities. The position works within a team that includes volunteers, health promoters, nurses, social workers and mental health workers. The position facilitates community awareness and partnerships, with individuals and agencies, to promote an age-friendly environment.

The Office of Retirement Services (ORS) oversees the investment of assets and administers the benefits of the two Defined Benefit Retirement Plans for the City of San Jose Employees. One plan is for the sworn police and fire employees called the Police and Fire Department Retirement Plan. The other plan is for all other eligible City employees called Federated City Employees' Retirement System. The assets of the two plans total over $8.0 billion. As of June 30, 2023, there were close to 7,200 retirees and beneficiaries, and close to 5,750 active employees in the two retirement plans. Each of the retirement plans has a Board of Administration that has fiduciary responsibility over their respective retirement plan. The ORS staff has accountability to them as well as City Administration. ORS has a total of about 43 positions spread among five different work groups within the department: Investments, Benefits, Accounting, Information Technology, and Administration. ORS utilizes the City's Financial Management System for all general ledger activities. In addition, ORS has its own pension administration system called Pension Gold that holds all pension/contribution information for active members and retirees and is used in almost all of the functions for the Benefits Group staff.

This pay range includes the five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

Retirement Services is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Analyst position in the Benefits Division. The position will be responsible for the administration of retirement benefits for active and retired members of two retirement plans and ten retirement tiers.

Successful candidates will have strong interpersonal and analytical skills and a keen interest in providing quality services for our members. Reporting to the Benefits Division Manager, the position is responsible for the following key duties:

• Lead and supervise a team of up to five staff.
• Review and approve Analyst calculations, adjustments & entries of various retirement benefits in the Pension Administration System.
• Oversee staff activities including eligibility and amounts of pension benefits, death processing, service credit calculations, divorce and other legal issues, reciprocity, and disability retirement administration.

About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff. Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (either Mondays/Tuesdays off OR Thursdays/Fridays off).  Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

POSITION

Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) is seeking a highly-qualified Social Worker III - Discharge Planner/Case Manager to provide highly skilled, intensive discharge planning and case management to individuals and their families, and provide casework consultation within SMMC and to outside agencies.

The Social Worker III - Discharge Planner/Case Manager position will support SMMC to provide services related to discharge planning/case management on various units of the hospital, including the Medical/Surgical unit, Intensive Care Unit, Acute Psychiatry unit, Short Term Rehabilitation unit, Emergency Room, and Psychiatric Emergency Services. This includes needs assessment, assistance in financial resource management, crisis management, service delivery planning and follow up, and referrals to public, community-based services and programs. The candidate should be familiar with the rules and regulations governing skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. The ideal candidate will have direct experience working in an acute care hospital setting performing discharge planning, including appropriate documentation in accordance with all Medicare and Medi-Cal regulations, and should be experienced working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and LEAN principles.

Examples Of Duties

• Be a member of the Palliative Care Team.
• Work in the emergency room or any other areas in the hospital that social workers cover.

Qualifications

Education:

• Satisfactory completion of 36 semester units of Social Welfare and/or appropriate behavioral science courses.

Experience:

• Three years' experience performing duties comparable to those of a Social Worker II or higher in San Mateo County.

Substitution: Possession of a Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of Social Work and two years' experience performing duties comparable to those of a Social Worker II or higher in San Mateo County.

Licensure/Certification :

• California class C driver license or equivalent.

The Port of San Francisco is an enterprise agency of the City and County of San Francisco and is governed by a Commission of five members appointed by the Mayor. The Port Commission is responsible for overseeing a broad range of waterfront commercial, maritime, and public access facilities that are held in public trust for the people of California. The Port’s jurisdiction covers approximately 7.5 miles of waterfront land from Pier 98, near Hunter’s Point in the southern part of San Francisco, to Fisherman’s Wharf in the northern part of the City.

Job Description

Under direct supervision, the Development Strategy & Finance Sr. Analyst works within the Port’s Real Estate and Development Division leading analytical work related to the Port’s Public-Private Partnership Development Projects. Key tasks will include preparing complex financial analyses and reports, analyzing development pro formas and appraisals, coordinating the issuance and disbursement of bonds and associated record keeping documentation, supporting with development negotiations, and managing division-wide contracts, billings, and budgets.

The Sr. Analyst will support Project Managers with all aspects of Port Development projects. The role will receive support in learning and performing all tasks with the goal of independently managing specific areas over time. The Development team and this position are collaborative in nature, and the Sr. Analyst will work with both internal and external stakeholders including all Port Divisions, specifically Port Finance and the Port’s Resilience team, the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, the Office of Public Finance, and private development partners.

The essential functions of this position include:

• Analyzes Port-wide development opportunities to prioritize projects and determine value to support Port-wide Sea Level Rise resilience projects.
• Reviews project pro formas, appraisals, and other financial analyses to determine fiscal feasibility and economic value to the Port.
• Supports Port Development, Finance, and Office of Public Finance teams with tax district formation and bond issuances.
• Tracks ongoing Project finances to ensure projects stay on budget, public sources are sufficient for funding, and Port meets revenue expectations.
• Identifies cost-saving measures for development projects and support the implementation of these actions with other City departments
• Supports Project Managers on development negotiations (term sheets, leases, community benefits) by conducting research tasks and financial projections
• Assists in the drafting of relevant development deal documents (term sheet, leases, Development Agreements)
• Assists in preparation of memos, staff reports, and presentations for Port executives, Port Commission, and Board of Supervisors.
• Coordinates billing and payments for developer reimbursables and Development-related invoices with Development Finance Manager.
• Manages Development team’s as-needed economic consultant contracts.

Qualifications

Education

Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; AND

Experience

Three (3) years full-time equivalent experience performing professional-level analytical work. Qualifying professional-level analytical work includes analysis, development, administration, and reporting in major programs and functions of an organization in the areas of budgets, contracts, grants, policy, or other functional areas related to the duties of positions in the 1823 Class series; AND

License and Certification

Possession of a valid California driver’s license (to be presented at time of appointment).  Employees must be insurable under the Port’s automobile liability insurance.  Insurability must be maintained throughout employment.

Substitution

Education Substitution: Additional qualifying work experience as described above may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of 2 years (1 year of work experience is equal to 30 semester units or 45 quarter units).

Experience Substitution: Possession of a graduate degree (Master's degree or higher) from an accredited college or university with major coursework in specialized subject matter areas such as public or business administration, management, business law, contract law, public policy, urban studies, economics, statistical analysis, finance, accounting or other fields of study closely related to the essential functions of positions in the Class series may be substituted for one (1) year of required experience.

• One-year full-time employment is considered equivalent to 2000 hours (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
