The Position: The Parks and Recreation Department's core function is to ensure healthy places and actives that foster community engagement and active lifestyles. The city is looking for an intern who will assist the Department with social media posting and marketing, including attending events, park sites and activities to capture and produce content. The successful candidate should be customer service oriented, friendly, professional, an outstanding multi-tasker, excellent communicator, organized and an independent worker.

Education and Experience:
Applicants must be in the process of earning an undergraduate or master’s degree in communication, Media Studies or a related field.

License:
A valid California Driver's License (Class C) is highly desirable. The position requires travel to different sites to attend events throughout the City.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to learn new information quickly
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Use a variety of software to create visual graphics and marketing materials; may film and edit videos for the department's socialdigital media presence to ensure content is professional, current and innovative.
• Maintain and assist the department's website, social media and technological outreach systems for content and design, ensuringaccuracy, consistency and quality.
• Take field photographs, including at events, for use in City materials.

Duties: The primary duties include but are not limited to, the following:

• Scheduling and coordinating Social Media Postings

The Position

The City of South San Francisco seeks customer service-oriented individuals to join the Community Resource Team at the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center. This position is shared between the Library Department and Parks and Recreation Department and works under the direction of the Community Resource Analyst. The Community Resource Clerk will typically be stationed at the lobby desks on the first and second floors of the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center at 901 Civic Campus Way in South San Francisco, however, may temporarily be assigned to other sites, or to represent the departments at special events. This position will provide a welcoming presence by greeting members of the public and responding to visitor inquiries to assist with wayfinding in the facility and sharing information about activities in the building as well as city and other local community resources.

SENIOR RECREATION LEADER

Summary Description

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor/coordinator, the Senior Recreation Leader is responsible for implementing programs at a given site, including administering program curriculum and supervising program staff.  This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly wage position without City-paid benefits.  Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Representative Duties

• Implement all daily activities of a given program, including administration of program curriculum, leading program activities, monitoring and enforcing program rules and regulations, maintaining a safe environment and collecting any necessary paperwork.
• Instruct program participants in rules, model appropriate behavior, monitor strict adherence to program guidelines and enforce rules.
•      Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.
•      Responsible for appropriate use, maintenance and storage of all program supplies and equipment.

The City of Brisbane is currently recruiting certified Lifeguards for our beautiful year-round outdoor aquatic facility.  Lifeguards patrol and watch the activities in and around the community swimming pool, enforce regulations to prevent accidents, and rescue swimmers in distress.  A full job description is available at www.brisbaneca.org.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is desirable.  This provision may be waived for applicants 15 to 18 years of age with ability to obtain a valid work permit.

Experience:  Previous experience as a lifeguard, having worked with youth and WSI certification is desirable.

Special Requirements:  Current Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certificates are required. Current certifications for this program are not required prior to applying for position.

SALARY AND HOURS:

$18.08 - $18.99  -  $19.93 -  $20.93 -  $21.96 per hour.  This is a part-time position, paid sick leave benefit available. Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five step scale.  Hours will range from 15-25 hours per week.  Candidates that make the eligibility list may be selected for shifts as needed throughout the year.  Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the entire year.

Under the direction of the Recreation and Community Engagement Department, the position is responsible for Reception/Cashier duties at City Hall and assisting with City events.

This entry-level classification requires limited time on the job before an incumbent can function at the full journey level. When assigned to the front desk at City Hall, one will perform various clerical tasks, including receptionist duties, basic cashier, customer service, program registration, record keeping, data entry, filing, and support of special events or projects.

When assigned the task of Recreation Assistant, will perform a variety of functions to support the Recreation Department's programs, including working directly with youth participants, assisting with planning activities, and providing customer service. Responsibilities may include clerical duties like program registration, record keeping, data entry, filing, and support of Department special events.

This position is not responsible for the direct supervision of other Department staff but may provide direction and assist other staff/volunteers during a program and/or activity.

Perform related work as required. NOTE: This program provides on the job training to prepare a swim aide to become a Swim Instructor. This entry-level aquatics position is designed to give valuable training and orientation to the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program, and the Mill Valley Aquatics Program for Individuals who desire to work in aquatics but don’t have required experience. Minimum age required to apply, 14 years old. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Assist Swim Instructor to provide all levels of swimming to all age groups.
• Follow the Instructors’ guidelines and directions working with the group or an individual as needed.
• Maintain certain class records and reports as required.
• Prepare instructional equipment, and clean up after classes.
