Glenn County is recruiting individuals to fill three full time and multiple Part Time/ Extra Help positions in the Public Works Agency. The Public Works Maintenance Worker I/II/III position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of County roads, bridges, and other related structures, and in various traffic control maintenance and  repair activities of the Public Works Agency; operates a variety of construction, maintenance and transportation equipment as necessary to complete daily tasks at the Glenn County Public Works Agency. The Public Works Maintenance Worker III position is the journey-level class in the series, and is distinguished from the Public Works Maintenance Worker II by the primary responsibility to operate heavy diesel and gasoline-powered construction equipment in the maintenance of roadways, drainage systems. 
 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Prepares roads for patch repairs, overlays, or chip seals; prepares mix for patching roads; repairs and reconstructs roads.
• Cleans roadsides and drainage systems; inspects and clears debris from drainage systems; conducts roadside burning as needed.
• Prunes trees and other vegetation as needed.
• Directs and controls traffic around work sites.
• Operates semi-trucks, dump trucks, water trucks, boom truck, front loader, rollers, snow plow, etc.; operates a compressor, sand blasters, jack hammer, chipper machine, welding equipment, cutting torch, compaction tools, weed eater, blower, and other hand and power tools.

I-   $18.29 - $22.24 Per Hour
II-  $19.70 - $23.94 Per Hour
III- $20.72 - $25.19 Per Hour

THE POSITION
Incumbent will perform sub-professional engineering work in the areas of design, construction, surveying, traffic and land development; to perform office and field duties including drafting, assisting in construction inspection, permit issuance, engineering research and traffic counts. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED & EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Division Manager. Functional or technical supervision may also be provided by professional or management level positions.

BeautifySJ Programs include, the Graffiti Removal Program, Illegal Dumping Program, Neighborhood Dumpster Day Program, Neighborhood Litter Program, Recreational Vehicle Pollution Prevention Program, Encampment Trash removal Program, Clean Gateways and Cash for Trash Program.

The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill two temporary (Overstrength) full-time Community Activity Specialist vacancy in the BeautifySJ Prorgram. The position is currently funded through June 30, 2026. These two (2) Community Activity Specialist who will support the Encampment Management Team with the implementation of the no return/no encampment zone for encampments. In addition to this assignment, these two positions will assist the encampment abatement teams with weekly abatement activities including noticing encampments, referrals to partner departments for outreach, providing education on encampment setback areas. The position daily engagement with those residing in homeless encampments. Those selected for the positions can expect to work in-person, 40 hours per week with a typical in-person schedule of Monday-Friday.

Applicants can also expect at times to work on activities and events and may include evening and weekend work.

The duties of this position will consist of:
 

• Posting encampment abatement notices at encampments
• Engaging with those who reside in homeless encampments to educate them on the "no return zone" and other encampment setbacks
• Working in and near homeless encampment locations
• Pilot and document best practices for a no-encampment zones
• Coordinate with city officials, other City Departments, law enforcement, and service providers to ensure a unified approach to clearing and managing encampments
• Coordinating resources and scheduling workload for efforts including but not limited to Secondary Employment Unit (SEU) requests and scheduling through SJPD outreach service requests to the Housing Department, etc.
• Process reports and data tracking through the Survey123 system

About the Water Resources Division: The Water Resources Division is comprised of three sections: Municipal Water System, South Bay Water Recycling, and Operations and Maintenance. The Water Resources Division provides potable water service through the Municipal Water System to the communities of Evergreen, North San José/Alviso, Edenvale, and Coyote. The Water Resources Division also provides recycled water service through the South Bay Water Recycling system to the cities of San Jose, Santa Clara, and Milpitas. South Bay Water Recycling includes 143 miles of pipeline and facilities, including four pump stations, three reservoirs, and Retail Agency Operations and Maintenance activities for over 800 individual customer connections. Associate Engineer Position at South Bay Water Recycling (SBWR) Section

The SBWR section is responsible for system operation and maintenance engineering support, and design and construction of the SBWR Recycling Water System pipeline and facilities. This includes managing the water quality programs, and supporting the conservation program, providing development related support services, ensuring availability of recycling water supply, capital improvements, construction inspection, and engineering support to operations and maintenance. Typical duties for the position include but are not limited to:

• Supervises staff including prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.Prepares engineering plans, details, project schedule, engineer's cost estimates and specifications.
• Directs the collection and analysis of water quality samples and reviews and interprets the resulting data including preparing recommendations as may be appropriate.
• Prepares, coordinates, and implements consultant, contractor, and laboratory analysis agreements.
• Research technical documents and assist in developing and conducting water quality studies to achieve business objectives and goals.
• Conducts and/or delegates data analysis, summarizes data with tables and graphs, and prepares reports and/or presentations to explain causes and effects on water quality as required by management.
• Provides direct support and/or oversees provision of direct support to customers as necessary to respond to water quality-related inquiries.
• Maintains and assists in optimizing databases that may include but not limited to water quality database, water quality compliant database, etc.
• Delegates and/or develops programs to maintain full compliance with applicable requirements in water quality, including updating existing plans or creating new plans as necessary to ensure compliance with new water quality regulations.
• Prepares and/or approves reports for compliance purposes that may include but not limited to: California Division of Drinking Water (DDW) Annual Report, Consumer Confidence Report, Public Health Goal Report.
• Represents the City with contractors, consulting firms, DDW, EPA, Regional Water Quality Control Board, and other water quality and environmental regulating bodies, as required, and at public meetings concerning City policy on engineering projects.
• Oversees and prepares plan documents, including but not limited to, Assembling and reviewing plans and specifications for conformance. directs the inspection of major engineering projects, prepares bid documents, solicits bids, facilitates award of contracts, administers the contract, interprets plans and specifications, resolves field problems, gives final inspection, and follows through with acceptance of the project.

Associate Engineer Position at Capital Improvement Program

The Capital Project Delivery section has a wide variety of responsibilities, including preparing and/or reviews designs, improvement plans, condition assessments, feasibility studies, construction estimates, specifications, and contract documents for capital improvement projects that are prepared by subordinates and/or consultants engaged by the City. Typical duties for the position include but are not limited to:

• Manages capital improvement projects from concept development to completion, i.e., overseeing, controlling, and guiding projects.
• Prepares engineering plans, project schedule, engineer's cost estimates and specifications.
• Negotiates, drafts, and manages consultant agreements and/or construction contracts.
• Supervises staff including work prioritization, performance evaluations, training and involvement in hiring and disciplinary processes.
• Oversees the preparation and/or reviews of designs and contracts documents for various of construction projects or engineering related projects.
• Evaluates and coordinates responses for bid documents and construction documents.
• Interprets plans and specifications, resolving field problems, conducting inspection, and facilitate project acceptance procedures.
• Collaborates with construction inspectors and attends field meetings regarding problems in the field during the construction.

The person spearheading this is the Public Works Director. Under administrative direction from the City Manager, the Public Works Director plans, oversees, and directs the activities and operations of the Public Works Department including engineering, maintenance, environmental services, and building inspection divisions. This position participates as a member of the City Manager’s Executive Team in the consideration of general City policies, programs, and concerns; and serves as a technical advisor to the City Council, Planning Commission, City Manager, other City departments, and civic groups. The Public Works Director exercises direct supervision to division managers (City Engineer, Chief Building Official, Environmental Services Manager, and Maintenance Superintendent) and indirect supervision of other professional, technical, and administrative staff; including developing, evaluating, and recognizing staff performance. The ability to prepare and present to the City Council and other municipal boards and commissions is required along with attendance and participation in professional group meetings. The Public Works Director must stay up to date on new  trends and innovations in the field of public works; monitor changes in law, regulations, and technology that may affect the City or departmental operations; and ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and judicial mandates, regulations, and professional standards. Other duties include but are not limited to:

• Conferring with and advising staff on problems related to design, construction, and maintenance of streets, parks and landscaped areas, sewers, and other public works structures.

The City of Foster City is looking for an experienced Associate Engineer with a passion for public service. This position will provide exposure to large-scale projects and community engagement and performs engineering work on the following types of capital improvement projects:  buildings, parks, levee, storm water systems, lagoon, streets, traffic signals, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems.

We are seeking highly skilled individuals with the competence and experience to address challenges with confidence and professionalism. Individuals that demonstrates skills in any of the following areas: land development, transportation/traffic engineering, and storm system management. Independently management for the design and constriction of capital improvement projects and AutoCAD experience are highly desirable. 

Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a directly related field, and three (3) years of professional experience in civil engineering work including project design, plan checking, and project management.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license upon appointment.
• Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California, desirable.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications and supplemental questionnaires received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Public Works department will make the hiring decision.

The City of Redwood City invites applications for Tree Maintenance Worker I/II. 

THE POSITION

The current opening is in the Street Tree Maintenance section of the Public Works Services department and provides an excellent opportunity for growth in the field of Right-of-Way maintenance.  The Tree Maintenance Worker I/II is expected to perform a variety of semi-skilled work involving trimming, removal, installation and general maintenance of trees.

A few typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Prune trees and shrubbery to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs, and lights and as necessary to insure continued health of the plant.
• Climb trees or operate aerial lift truck.
• Remove fallen trees, dead limbs and other debris resulting from storm damage and general condition.
• Remove and grind stumps.
• Clean and maintain climbing and trimming equipment
• Plant, stake and spray trees.
• Operate chipper and drive trucks.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
