The City of Burlingame currently has one opening for an Intern to assist in the Public Works Department. Duties will primarily consist of field data collection using a handheld device, as well as editing datasets and creating maps in an office environment using geographic information system (GIS) software. This is a temporary position with a flexible schedule of approximately 20-30 hours per week.
Under the general supervision of a Public Works Streets Supervisor or Parks & Grounds Supervisor, and direction of a Maintenance II lead, incumbents in this classification assist with the cleanup and maintenance of City parks, streets, and satellite facilities including buildings, equipment, bus stops, parking lots, trails, flora and landscapes; and, perform related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):
Under direct supervision, the Seasonal/Temporary Maintenance Worker is assigned to the Parks Maintenance and/or Streets Maintenance functions of the Public Works Department and assist in a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks.
In the Parks Division these include: trash collection, graffiti removal, weed removal, irrigation repairs, operating battery powered blowers, weed trimmers, hedge trimmers, mowers and other equipment and tasks as needed to maintain City parks, landscapes, vegetation, trees and additional tasks as needed.

Our internships are project-oriented and designed to give college students a good general overview of future employment opportunities and current issues in the Public Sector. You will have the opportunity for exposure to various areas of City Administration during your internship and to network with fellow interns and participate in professional development activities in San Mateo County and/or Santa Clara County.
