The City of Sunnyvale’s Department of Public Works is recruiting for two Senior Maintenance Worker positions within the Street Operations division. One Senior Maintenance Worker position will be assigned to the pavement team responsible for maintenance, repair, sweeping and cleaning of City streets, curbs, gutters, and similar right-of-way infrastructure. One Senior Maintenance Worker position will be assigned to the traffic markings and signs team responsible for a variety of tasks involving installing and maintaining traffic signs, painting pavement markings and striping, and repairing concrete sidewalk for the city. This classification reports to a Public Works Supervisor and receives assignments related to the above-mentioned maintenance tasks.

The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for one Senior Park Utility Worker: Tree Maintenance in the Department of Public Works.  This position will lead a small crew (2 to 4 person crew), where the incumbent performs the work duties assigned as well as directs and oversees the work of the crew members.

THE POSITION

The City is currently seeking General Maintenance Workers. This temporary position works with the City’s maintenance staff to perform: unskilled labor in the parks and landscape medians, street and sidewalk maintenance, street sign maintenance, and building maintenance. Duties include, but are not limited to: raking, emptying trash cans and litter removal, irrigation repair, weeding, edging, street sign maintenance and graffiti removal. Work is closely supervised; work methods are explained in specific terms and work is subject to frequent review. 

Incumbents must possess the physical and mental capacity to work under the conditions described in this document and to perform the duties required by their assigned position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in landscaping, street and sidewalk maintenance, and building maintenance, as well as safety practices and precautions to be used in work.
• Skill in operating hand and power tool equipment such as rakes, pick and shovel, etc.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and to follow oral and written instructions. Intermittently, sit while studying or listening to training; bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist when performing maintenance, repair, or installation tasks; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; and lift or carry heavy weights up to 90 lbs.; work in conditions of various outdoor exposure.
• Capable of working independently.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Driving a city truck is required for the position and the applicant must have an acceptable driving record, subject to California DMV pull records.
• Ability to work Saturday and/or Sunday shifts.  Hours are 7AM-4:30PM and may fluctuate due to operational needs.

The City of Union City is currently seeking ONE highly motivated individual for the position of Transit Planner Assistant or Transit Planner Associate.

DEFINITION:

TRANSIT PLANNER ASSISTANT

Under close supervision, the Assistant Transit Planner is responsible for providing entry level support to assist in the development, administration and analysis of the City’s public transit programs.

TRANSIT PLANNER ASSOCIATE

Under general supervision, the Associate Transit Planner is responsible for performing paraprofessional work to assist in the development, administration and analysis of the City’s public transit programs.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

TRANSIT PLANNER ASSISTANT

This is the entry-level class in the Transit Planner series and will receive direction and guidance from the Transit Manager. Work given to an incumbent in this class involves assisting in analysis and development of transit programs and services, research of new trends in public transit and comparing how Union City provides service delivery, and participation in coordination events or meetings on behalf of Union City. The Transit Planner Assistant has basic knowledge of the operating procedures and policies of transit and/or transportation planning. An incumbent may advance to the higher levels after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

TRANSIT PLANNER ASSOCIATE

This is an experienced-level class within the Transit Planner series and will receive general direction from the Transit Manager. Work given to an incumbent in this class involves general analysis and development of transit programs and services, research of new trends in public transit and comparing how Union City provides service delivery, and participation in coordination events or meetings on behalf of Union City resulting in recommendations based on the incumbent’s work. The Transit Planner Associate has general knowledge of the operating procedures and policies of transit and/or transportation planning.

• Assist in/Evaluates* the planning, operations and activities of the City’s public transit programs (fixed route, paratransit, and microtransit).

• Assist in/Prepares* the development of regularly occurring required plans or programs such as the Short Range Transit Plan (SRTP), Title VI and Language Assistance Plan (LAP), Transit Asset Management (TAM) Plan, and Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).

About the Highway Program Deputy Director

The Highway Program Deputy Director, reporting to the Chief of Engineering and Program Delivery, manages a diverse and talented team of seasoned staff who is well-versed on the delivery of capital projects related to the State highway system and other roadways in the county. This position is responsible for directing and leading collaboration on planning, design development (including technical analysis in support of preliminary engineering and final design), project-related right-of-way activities (in coordination with VTA Real Estate), construction management and close out, overall program/project management (including scopes, costs, schedules and quality of work), management of staff resources (both VTA and consultant), coordination with project stakeholders within VTA and beyond (e.g., local agencies, Caltrans, federal agencies, resources agencies, utilities, etc.), and community and other outreach (working with VTA public information and government affairs staff).
 

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school, and one (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license, and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds and be able to perform sustained heavy physical labor. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on off-hour shifts in emergency situations.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Associate Transportation Engineer in the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department! 

When assigned to development review, you will have the opportunity to review residential, commercial, industrial and public works project plans, traffic impact reports, and other development and design related documents for compliance with City of Berkeley standards and regulations including all applicable local, state, and federal codes and guidelines; evaluate and recommend mitigation measures to address adverse impacts of development projects; review plan checks for small developments; and review traffic control plans for construction projects.

When assigned to capital projects designs and traffic signal systems, you will have the opportunity to manage capital improvement projects including development of conceptual design options, detailed engineering design, bid, and construction administration; prepare council reports, conduct presentations, and respond to project-related public inquiries; design/review traffic engineering design elements for Complete Streets Projects and traffic calming projects; work with project development team to analyze street and road use for all road users focusing on safety and efficiency of transportation networks; and work with traffic signal maintenance team to maintain and upgrade city’s traffic signal system, including using Synchro traffic signal timing software. An ideal candidate in this role is proficient in scope, schedule, and cost management with managing multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously as well as working knowledge of complete streets design principles, traffic calming and traffic control elements, civil engineering, roadway design, and Citywide plans including Bike Plan and Pedestrian Plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and five years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, three years of which were at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer. A CA Registration as a Traffic Engineer is preferred. Candidates must also possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Desirable qualifications include a master's degree in Transportation Engineering/Planning or a related field.  

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Seasonal Maintenance Worker position performs a variety of entry-level and unskilled labor, maintenance and repair tasks in various public works operations, such as park maintenance, landscape maintenance, creek and catch basin maintenance, street maintenance, and janitorial and facility maintenance.

Typically, work hours are scheduled between Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Some hours may be adjusted for special events in evening or on weekends; up to 29 hours per week.

This is a part-time, temporary position with limited duration.

EXAMPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform preparatory work for maintenance activities – gathering equipment, materials and supplies, loading and unloading, and laying out materials and equipment for projects
• Perform a variety of routine physical labor tasks, depending upon area of assignment, such as posting general notices, pulling weeds, picking up litter, raking leaves and debris, planting, miscellaneous painting, replacing light bulbs, emptying trash bins, cleaning park bathroom daily and other minor custodial work
• Perform cleanup at the end of the day or when job is completed, including picking up tools and clearing work areas of spills and debris
• Operate power tools such as power washer, leaf blower and weed eater, as well as basic hand tools such as brooms, shovels, rakes and hoes
• Assist with daily and weekly trash pick-up on park grounds and Town trash receptacles
• Assist with other maintenance duties as assigned
