The Public Works Department is currently recruiting for a Communications Technician for the Radio Communications Shop. The Radio Communications shop maintains the communication system for the City of San José that is used by multiple departments, such as: Police, Fire, Department of Transportation, Parks Recreation Neighborhood Services (Park Rangers), and Public Works (Animal Care & Services). The City of San José public safety and city services depend upon the use of commercial radio communications equipment.

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Worker II performs a variety of tasks in maintaining streets; storm drainage and sewer systems; parks, landscaped areas, and grounds; buildings; and vehicles, equipment, and tools. May serve as a team leader when working on a specific project with other Maintenance Workers. May be asked to provide informal guidance and “coaching” to new Maintenance Workers.

Under general supervision, to perform a variety of skilled manual tasks; to operate light and heavy equipment; specialized and technical equipment; and perform related work as required for Facility Maintenance repairs and projects. This is the next level class above Facilities Maintenance Worker II. Works independently on assignments which require skills and experience in Facilities Maintenance. Uses specialized equipment to perform duties. May be assigned to various divisions.
