THE POSITION

Under supervision, a Building Inspector I performs detailed inspection of structures for conformance to codes, ordinances, approved plans, calculations, and specification; and other duties as assigned.

Field Inspection Functions

Performs building, fire, electrical, plumbing and mechanical inspections of all structures during construction to ensure conformance to City/State codes, ordinances, approved plans, calculations, and specifications, using appropriate safety precautions; checks for setbacks and conformance to zoning regulations; checks signs and fences; investigates complaints; interprets codes, reports violations and hazardous conditions and orders corrections; notifies builders of required changes and makes re- inspections; performs fire prevention inspections and investigations of new and existing structures; and advises the public regarding construction practices and principles.

Administrative Functions

Reviews plans and specifications for the purpose of conducting building inspection work; prepares records, reports and correspondence; utilizes personal computers to perform data entry functions; and may be assigned to assist in the Permit Center, as needed.

THE POSITION:

The Facilities Carpenter I is an entry level classification in the carpentry series. Carpenters in this class are assigned routine skilled carpentry tasks. Under the training concept of growing excellence in craft, positions allocated to the Facilities Carpenter II level which become vacant may reasonably be filled at the I level. 
 

The Facilities Carpenter II is responsible for performing a variety of skilled carpentry and related tasks in the construction, remodeling, repair, and maintenance of City facilities. This the journey level classification within the carpenter series. Incumbents at this level act with independence, handle "master" craftworker projects, and assume the more complex activities which would otherwise require the attention and coordination of the Facilities and Building Manager. 

 

 

Essential Duties

What you will do: 

Depending on assignment, duties may include but are not limited to the following:  
 

1. Remodels offices in City facilities. Takes down walls, doors and windows, reinstalls new walls and cuts in new doorways.

2. Installs, repairs and replaces doors, door closures, windows, floors, roofs, and other structural appurtenances.

3. Builds and repairs wooden fixtures and office furniture of all kinds.

4. Fabricates new cabinets, bookshelves and countertops.

5. Performs maintenance and repair work on all city buildings, rental units, and on private residences involving Police damage to the premises.

6. Rescreens screen doors and window screens.

7. Fabricates tack boards and bulletin boards.

8. May perform allied craft work in the course of maintaining City facilities.

9. Performs related work as necessary.

• Tools, materials and standard practices of the carpentry trade.
• The qualities of various woods and related building materials and their suitability and use in specific situations.
• Federal, state, and county municipal building codes.
• Occupational Safety and Health Act safety requirements, and related devices and equipment.

• Skillfully use carpentry and related tools and equipment.
• Work from sketches, drawings, blueprints, plans, specifications and instruction manuals, and independently make necessary corrections.
• Follow verbal and written directions.
• Skillfully use carpentry tools in cabinet work and new construction/remodeling.

Facilities Carpenter I

Experience: Equivalent to completion of a regular carpentry apprenticeship.

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.

License: Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

Facilities Carpenter II

Essential duties require the mental and/or physical work environment: work in variable indoor and outdoor conditions; tolerate exposure to outdoor elements in all weather conditions (e.g. heat, cold, and rain) throughout the year; be able to tolerate some exposure to noise, vibration, chemicals, moving objects, traffic, engine exhaust, dust, mechanical and electrical hazards, and odorous environments; frequently kneel, stoop, crouch, squat, climb, twist, and handle equipment; grasp, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to prepare documents and data using a computer keyboard and mouse/trackball; sit for prolonged periods of time; stand, walk, reach, bend and safely lift and move equipment and materials weighing up to 75 pounds; converse by telephone, by email, in person, and be clearly understood; read and comprehend documents; interact with the public and all different levels of City staff in an effective and professional manner. The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the  flexibly staffed position of Elections Clerk I-II in the Elections Division within the Clerk-Recorder’s Office for both Extra Help and Full Time positions. This position reports directly to the Registrar of Voters Manager. This class is flexibly staffed, and incumbents may advance to the II-level after gaining experience, demonstrating proficiency, and meeting the qualifications. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn state and federal laws, rules and regulations related to conducting elections as well as County policies and procedures. THE POSITION: 

The City of San Pablo is actively recruiting for a Community Services Coordinator I/II position to plan, organize, and direct services and programs within the Community Services Department for our senior population, volunteer programs and city-wide special events. Our senior programs provide opportunities for adults 50 years of age and older, to engage in active and healthy programming. The Church Lane Senior Center hosts a congregate lunch program, numerous senior focused special events, weekday door-to-door transportation service (managed by a different full-time coordinator) and drop- in programs and classes. The city hosts 10-12 city-wide special events each year that include family dances, spring egg hunt, Cinco de Mayo celebration, Movies Under the Stars, 4th of July Multi-Cultural celebration, Halloween, Veterans Day and a Winter Wonderland Festival. The Community Services Department relies heavily on volunteers for both special events and senior programs and wants to expand the volunteer recruitment and training program.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Recreation Activity Leader in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will organize, coordinate and lead a wide variety of indoor and outdoor recreation activities at City parks, playgrounds and recreation centers.

Current vacancies are seasonal positions for Summer 2024 (May to August). Recreation Activity Leaders may be assigned to: Tots, Pre-K, or Teen programs, playground programs, Berkeley Day Camp or specialty camps, or youth sports. You will also have the opportunity to work special events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Equivalent to graduation from high school and either:

1) Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience leading a variety of athletic and recreation activities;

2) Completion of major college coursework leading to a degree in recreation, physical education, group work or a closely related field may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis;

Under general supervision of the Program Coordinator, staff is responsible for planning and implementing daily age-appropriate activities including crafts, games, songs, drama, storytelling, and supervised play.

A Responsible individual is needed to maintain and enforce proper city procedures and policies in our parks, parking lots and ball fields.   Park monitors will perform park inspections and enforce park policies, supervise patrons, renters and daily facility management. Park monitors and parking lot attendants must stand firm on policies, control diverse situations and always possess a friendly disposition and professional demeanor.  Park monitors and parking lot attendants must also have the ability to communicate and respond to customer service concerns, handle all weather conditions and be reliable with a strong work ethic and personal integrity. Successful completion of college-level courses in accounting and budgeting and internal certificates of competencies in accounting, labor distribution and accounting software are highly desirable.

Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside of Berkeley to meet program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships, engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving, and leveraging financial and volunteer resources. The Department’s nationally and internationally recognized programs support thousands of residents throughout their life course, from infants to elders. The department offers a working environment which is friendly, supportive, collegial, and where staff of many disciplines come together to problem solve, compassionately assist those in need, and share successes.

The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community. With input from local, older adults (age 55 years+) as our guide, the AFS team strives to provide and AFS staff work together to provide a continuum of supportive services that range from health promotion activities to home-based end of life care. AFS has a Senior InfoLine (phone and email) that is answered in 4 language (Farsi, English, Spanish and Chinese) that is often an entry point. As an older adult or their caregiver’s situation changes, they seamlessly have access to a continuum of programs that include counseling and emotional support; care coordination and resource assistance; specialized family caregiver support and education. Many of these supportive services are provided in the resident’s home. We also provide regular expert clinical consultation, supervision, opportunities for self-reflection, and team building, fostering a culture of empathy, inclusivity, humility, and respect.

The Position

Under the supervision of the Age Well Center Managers, the Chef/Food Services Manager position manages meal programs for the City of Fremont’s Age Well Centers. Chef responsibilities across both Age Well Center locations include the performance of menu planning, purchasing of foodstuffs, preparing quantity meals, supervising and assisting kitchen employees and volunteers and maintaining clean and orderly kitchens.

The incumbent will be responsible for properly cooked, economical, and wholesome, well balanced meals in City operated Age Well Centers. This position is not limited to being responsible for the assignment of work, supervision and evaluation of paid and volunteer food service workers. The review and approval of proposed menus, food purchases, control and monitoring of expenditure rates; and institution of disciplinary actions are functions reserved for the Program Coordinator or Age Well Center Managers.

Examples of Duties

• Plan menus with consideration for the dietary needs of older adults, wholesomeness, quantity of food to be prepared and budgetary constraints.
• Estimate food requirements and requisitions for food and supplies.
• Prepare, cook, and serve a wide variety of foodstuffs for quantity food service.
• May cut/carve and cook meats; bake breads, cakes and pastries; peel and prepare vegetables; and make salads.
• Place food in serving containers and serves food.
• Maintain proper temperature, rotation and storage of food.
• Direct and assist in cleaning kitchens and kitchen equipment after each meal.
• Estimate food requirements and requisitions for food and supplies.
• Direct and assist in the cleaning of the kitchen and kitchen equipment after each meal.
• Oversee that the kitchen and equipment are kept clean, sanitary and in proper working condition. Schedule regular maintenance of kitchen equipment as needed. Maintain standards of safety and sanitation in kitchen area.
• Recruit, train, supervise, instruct, and direct employees and volunteers assigned to working in the kitchens.
• Develop and support additional meal programs, including, but not limited to fundraisers, catering events and cooking demonstrations and special events.
• Keep records and prepare reports as required. Inclusive of any certification requirements and/or medical clearances required of subordinate employees and volunteers.
• Oversee community garden program, including crop rotation, seasonal planting, and maintenance assignment.
• Coordinate with office staff, marketing and sales strategies to increase visibility and participation for meal programs.
• Ensure kitchen compliance with health regulations and participate in health inspections.
• Other duties as assigned.

Under general supervision, lead, and conduct activities in the delivery of recreation program areas including camps, preschool, tots, after school programs, parks and nature, teens, boxing, youth and adult sports, special events, and active adults; oversee the proper use of indoor and outdoor community recreational facilities, perform a variety of custodial tasks; assist the public and staff in their use of the facility.

Distinguishing Characteristics: 

Under general supervision, the Recreation Aide assists in the proper use of a community recreational facility and assist Recreation Leaders in providing a variety of recreation programs. The Recreation Leader classification is distinguished from the Recreation Aide level in the complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken, the amount of time spent performing the duties, the nature of the public contact made, and its training responsibilities of new staff. Positions at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to the assigned area of responsibility.
