THE POSITION

Under supervision, a Building Inspector I performs detailed inspection of structures for conformance to codes, ordinances, approved plans, calculations, and specification; and other duties as assigned.

Field Inspection Functions

Performs building, fire, electrical, plumbing and mechanical inspections of all structures during construction to ensure conformance to City/State codes, ordinances, approved plans, calculations, and specifications, using appropriate safety precautions; checks for setbacks and conformance to zoning regulations; checks signs and fences; investigates complaints; interprets codes, reports violations and hazardous conditions and orders corrections; notifies builders of required changes and makes re- inspections; performs fire prevention inspections and investigations of new and existing structures; and advises the public regarding construction practices and principles.

Administrative Functions

Reviews plans and specifications for the purpose of conducting building inspection work; prepares records, reports and correspondence; utilizes personal computers to perform data entry functions; and may be assigned to assist in the Permit Center, as needed.

This Internship is offered as part of a Regional Internship Partnership to introduce and encourage new graduates to local municipal governments. The Town of Los Altos Hills hopes that internships like this will serve as a platform to connect a diverse student population with agencies that recognize their value and provide important opportunities for applicants to bring fresh ideas while gaining valuable hands-on experience in the public sector.

Job Description: 

The intern’s workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to proof reading, poster design, grassroots marketing, implementing events, organization of record management, benchmarking, photographing activities and research. The position will serve as a regular staff member and will receive assignments and work direction from the Community Services Supervisor. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a college student or recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

THE POSITION:

The Facilities Carpenter I is an entry level classification in the carpentry series. Carpenters in this class are assigned routine skilled carpentry tasks. Under the training concept of growing excellence in craft, positions allocated to the Facilities Carpenter II level which become vacant may reasonably be filled at the I level. 
 

The Facilities Carpenter II is responsible for performing a variety of skilled carpentry and related tasks in the construction, remodeling, repair, and maintenance of City facilities. This the journey level classification within the carpenter series. Incumbents at this level act with independence, handle "master" craftworker projects, and assume the more complex activities which would otherwise require the attention and coordination of the Facilities and Building Manager. 

 

 

Essential Duties

What you will do: 

Depending on assignment, duties may include but are not limited to the following:  
 

1. Remodels offices in City facilities. Takes down walls, doors and windows, reinstalls new walls and cuts in new doorways.

2. Installs, repairs and replaces doors, door closures, windows, floors, roofs, and other structural appurtenances.

3. Builds and repairs wooden fixtures and office furniture of all kinds.

4. Fabricates new cabinets, bookshelves and countertops.

5. Performs maintenance and repair work on all city buildings, rental units, and on private residences involving Police damage to the premises.

6. Rescreens screen doors and window screens.

7. Fabricates tack boards and bulletin boards.

8. May perform allied craft work in the course of maintaining City facilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

THE POSITION: 

The City of San Pablo is actively recruiting for a Community Services Coordinator I/II position to plan, organize, and direct services and programs within the Community Services Department for our senior population, volunteer programs and city-wide special events. POSITION INFORMATION

The Seasonal Park Ranger Aide position requires flexibility with a variable schedule including split shifts and on call availability from May through Labor day.  The site location is at Camp Shelly in South Lake Tahoe.  Lodging will be provided.

This is the entry-level classification in the Park Ranger series responsible for performing a variety of routine maintenance for District parks and open space areas and facilities.  Incumbents at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies.  Work is reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.  This class is distinguished from the Park Ranger in that the latter provides enforcement of land use laws and regulations and serves as a Peace Officer under the California Penal Code.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

The Department

 

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships, engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving, and leveraging financial and volunteer resources. The Department’s nationally and internationally recognized programs support thousands of residents throughout their life course, from infants to elders. The department offers a working environment which is friendly, supportive, collegial, and where staff of many disciplines come together to problem solve, compassionately assist those in need, and share successes.

 

The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community. With input from local, older adults (age 55 years+) as our guide, the AFS team strives to provide and AFS staff work together to provide a continuum of supportive services that range from health promotion activities to home-based end of life care. AFS has a Senior InfoLine (phone and email) that is answered in 4 language (Farsi, English, Spanish and Chinese) that is often an entry point. As an older adult or their caregiver’s situation changes, they seamlessly have access to a continuum of programs that include counseling and emotional support; care coordination and resource assistance; specialized family caregiver support and education. Many of these supportive services are provided in the resident’s home. We also provide regular expert clinical consultation, supervision, opportunities for self-reflection, and team building, fostering a culture of empathy, inclusivity, humility, and respect.

 

The Position

 

Under the supervision of the Age Well Center Managers, the Chef/Food Services Manager position manages meal programs for the City of Fremont’s Age Well Centers. Chef responsibilities across both Age Well Center locations include the performance of menu planning, purchasing of foodstuffs, preparing quantity meals, supervising and assisting kitchen employees and volunteers and maintaining clean and orderly kitchens.

The incumbent will be responsible for properly cooked, economical, and wholesome, well balanced meals in City operated Age Well Centers. This position is not limited to being responsible for the assignment of work, supervision and evaluation of paid and volunteer food service workers. The review and approval of proposed menus, food purchases, control and monitoring of expenditure rates; and institution of disciplinary actions are functions reserved for the Program Coordinator or Age Well Center Managers.

 

Examples of Duties

 

• Plan menus with consideration for the dietary needs of older adults, wholesomeness, quantity of food to be prepared and budgetary constraints.
• Estimate food requirements and requisitions for food and supplies.
• Prepare, cook, and serve a wide variety of foodstuffs for quantity food service.
• May cut/carve and cook meats; bake breads, cakes and pastries; peel and prepare vegetables; and make salads.
• Place food in serving containers and serves food.
• Maintain proper temperature, rotation and storage of food.
• Direct and assist in cleaning kitchens and kitchen equipment after each meal.
• Estimate food requirements and requisitions for food and supplies.
• Direct and assist in the cleaning of the kitchen and kitchen equipment after each meal.
• Oversee that the kitchen and equipment are kept clean, sanitary and in proper working condition. Schedule regular maintenance of kitchen equipment as needed. Maintain standards of safety and sanitation in kitchen area.
• Recruit, train, supervise, instruct, and direct employees and volunteers assigned to working in the kitchens.
• Develop and support additional meal programs, including, but not limited to fundraisers, catering events and cooking demonstrations and special events.
• Keep records and prepare reports as required. Inclusive of any certification requirements and/or medical clearances required of subordinate employees and volunteers.
• Oversee community garden program, including crop rotation, seasonal planting, and maintenance assignment.
• Coordinate with office staff, marketing and sales strategies to increase visibility and participation for meal programs.
• Ensure kitchen compliance with health regulations and participate in health inspections.

The City of Foster City is looking for a Building Maintenance Worker I who is able to perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on municipal buildings, facilities, and equipment in the Building Maintenance Division. This position performs routine and standardized tasks and duties such as plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical activities.

Education and Training Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: Completion of the twelfth grade or the equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in maintenance, construction, or facilities maintenance.

Experience: One (1) year of full time experience in general maintenance, construction, or facilities maintenance.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner.

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Building Maintenance Manager will make the hiring decision.

LARPD is seeking a summer intern to support the Summer Youth Volunteer Program.  Applicants should have the equivalent of one year of college credits completed toward a degree.  Candidates interested in learning about recreation, volunteer management, and community services will be given preference.  Interested candidates should complete an application online. The intern will be responsible for key deliverables while learning about special districts and the Livermore community.

Community Outreach: Summer Youth Volunteers Project Plan 

The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience managing high school aged volunteers that will support a variety of summer camps and programs throughout the district.  

 

Key duties 

• Be primary point of contact for Summer Youth Volunteers. 

• Assist with volunteer orientation and ongoing training sessions throughout the summer. 

• Oversee volunteer schedule. 

• Track volunteer hours logging. 

• Create program completion documents. 

• Assist with planning end of summer recognition event. 

 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Maintain volunteer hour tracking and create end of summer recap report. 

• Complete summer training and check-in reports. 

• Create and distribute volunteer completion certification with hours totals for all summer volunteers. 

• Report any concerns from staff and volunteers or development opportunities for volunteers through regular check-ins. 

 

What learning will occur for the intern? 

• Experience managing volunteers. 

• Learn how summer programs work/run in a special district.  

• Gain familiarity with volunteer management software. 

• Graphic design creating infographics and end-of-summer reports. 

• Communication opportunities both with program staff and volunteers. 

 

Timing 

June-August 9th.  Interns may start and end later but need to be present for the core Sessions slated for the entire month of June, July and through August 9th.  

 

Work hours will be Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, 40 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.
