MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is completion of 60 college semester units. Previous volunteer or paid experience in a law enforcement support area is desirable.
 
Other requirements include:

• Must be free from any disqualifications for employment, including felony convictions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
• Must be 21 years of age or older at time of appointment.
• Must be fingerprinted for purposes of search of local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose a criminal record.
• Must be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation.
• Must be a high school graduate, pass the General Education Development Test or other high school equivalency test approved by the State Department of Education that indicates high school graduation level, pass the California High School Proficiency Examination, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.
• Must be found to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition, including bias against race or ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, disability, or sexual orientation, that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. 
• Must be able to meet physical, psychological and background standards. 
• Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. 
• Must be able to obtain required POST certification and maintain firearms qualification.

EXAM PROCESS

If you are unable to attend the City of Berkeley exam dates, you may register and take your exams with The Academy. The Academy charges a non-refundable materials fee of $10 for the written exam, $25 for the practice PAT, and $100 for the official PAT. After taking the exams and receiving passing scores, please attach your scores to your application.

POST will not authorize you to take the exam within 30 calendar days of having taken your last POST written exam. Please refer to the POST website for additional information.

Applicants may waive the written exam only by submitting a California POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) T-score of 48 points or higher. We will accept California POST T-scores from other agencies provided the test was taken no more than one year prior to the date of application. Applicants must submit, on agency letterhead, a letter that states that the individual has taken the California PELLETB written exam. The letter must contain the total T-score and the date of the test. For information on where the PELLETB test is offered, please visit www.theacademy.ca.gov/tests.

Applicants may waive the performance exam only by submitting a California POST physical agility certificate, known as the Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB), with a score of 325 or higher.  The 1.5-mile run is not a requirement.  The test should not be dated no more than one year prior to the date of application.

The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Housing Inspector II (Certified)! In this role, you will perform skilled inspection work with City residential housing inspection programs. You will independently perform the full scope of work in the investigation, reporting and follow-up of housing deficiencies to gain compliance with housing, building, zoning, fire, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related codes and regulations.

Assignments are varied and generally require close interaction with the public, providing information and interpretation of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations. • An International Code Council (ICC) OR California (CA) certification in Residential Building or Housing Inspection or in Code Enforcement; and

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff. Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Requirements: Must have the ability to  learn Midpen lands, pertinent laws and regulations and contact, educate and inform the public about the lands and regulations ; administer first aid and CPR; operate and maintain various power tools and equipment; operate two-way radios; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; and other duties as assigned.

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Six months experience working in a customer service related field.  Some experience or training in a parks settings is desirable.

Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (either Mondays/Tuesdays off OR Thursdays/Fridays off).  Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

Under general supervision, perform a variety of professional civil engineering services in such areas as planning and design of private and public planning and building projects, including residential and commercial buildings, parks, and landscaping projects.

Associate Engineer is the journey level class of this series responsible for routine office or field projects. Employees are expected to be fully competent to independently perform a full range of duties requiring a high level of technical expertise, and some periodic supervisory responsibilities. We are seeking an innovative and proactive Building Official with a positive, forward-thinking perspective. The City of Woodland is looking to fill multiple Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II positions in the Public Works Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drainage Systems Division.  The Ideal Candidate for the current vacancy is someone who has a good understanding of all aspects of underground sewer/storm drain maintenance and repairs, and is familiar with the operation of light and heavy equipment.  This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time management, and communication skills.  Candidate must be able to follow direction and display good judgment, as well as be organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful, and a positive team contributor.  Current and valid distribution certifications and Class A/B commercial driver’s license are highly desirable.

Utilities Maintenance Worker I:

This is the entry level class in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series.  The Utilities Maintenance Worker I may often perform many of the duties required of Utilities Maintenance Workers II but is not expected to have the depth of experience, skill level and certifications of the Utilities Maintenance Worker II. As a result, the Utilities Maintenance Worker I will have fewer opportunities to exercise independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

This is the Journey level in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series. This class differs from Utilities Maintenance Worker I in that incumbent perform more complex maintenance duties including working independently, exercising judgment, and operating the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment.  The Utilities Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level, or by candidates with prior work experience elsewhere.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including such pieces as a loader, dump truck, water truck, steel rollers, High Velocity Vacuum Cleaner, mole trencher, and rubber-tired tractor with all attachments in order to perform a variety of routine construction and maintenance operations.  Operate fork lift as assigned and trained.  Perform general maintenance and repair on water distribution and/or storm and wastewater collection facilities including installation, testing, and backfill of service laterals.  Within the sewer and stormwater collections division, employees will be expected to use the Closed-Circuit Television Truck, sewer cable machine, flush sewer laterals and mains, assist in sewer tap installations, clean storm drain lines and catch basins. Within the water distribution division, employees will be expected to assist in water tap installations, install, remove, and repair water meters, hydrants, service valves, and mainline valves; take water meter and gauge readings; accurately maintain records and reports.  All Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II will operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates, utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work and comply with the policies and procedures in the department Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that employee must be present to work on facilities and equipment impacting the public’s health and safety.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 

Respond to inquiries from the general public. Prepare as built sketches, when required to convey information to engineering for graphic documentation. Check water meters for proper operation; troubleshoot registers and repair. Initiate and discontinue water service to customer accounts as directed. Operate telemetering and flow monitoring equipment. Work cooperatively with others. Perform related duties as assigned. Both Assignments will require employees to be “On Call” as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Utilities Maintenance Worker I

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Courses in, or graduation from, the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Institute is desirable

Experience:  One (1) year of experience in construction or related field.

License and Certificate:  Requires possession of a California State Drinking Water Operator Certification Program (DWOCP) Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) and a Grade I Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association prior to permanent appointment. 

A Pipeline Assessment and Certification Program certificate issued by the National Association of Sewer System Companies (NASSCO) is desirable.

Requires possession of a valid California Driver's License.  A Class B Driver’s permit and DMV Medical Certification are required within three (3) months of hire.  Employee must obtain a valid Class B Driver's License, a Work Zone Safety certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association, First Aid and CPR certifications, Competent Person certification, and Confined Space certification prior to permanent appointment.

Utilities Maintenance Worker II

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.  Courses in or graduation from the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Institute is desirable

Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Utilities Maintenance Worker I.

License and Certificate:  Requires possession of a California State (DWOCP) Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) and a Grade II Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association upon hire.

Requires all of the certifications necessary for a Utilities Maintenance Worker I and possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License with Tank and Air Brake Endorsement upon hire.

CalPERS Retirement System (2 % @ 60 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 formula for new CalPERS members).  The City does not participate in social security

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to either County Jail security or Court security.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system.
