The Redwood City Police Department is currently accepting applications for Per-Diem COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHERS. Using a sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch terminal, the Communications Dispatcher receives emergency calls from within the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency service; determine priority, and dispatch police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures.
Under general supervision, the Public Safety Specialist – Dispatch , as a member of the Police Department, transmits and receives information over the police and public works radio system; dispatches routine and emergency calls for service; types, records, and files information; handles emergency and non-emergency telephone calls utilizing complex technical aids, such as computer aided dispatch systems (CAD), and performs related work as assigned.
Under general direction, perform a wide range of field and office duties to support and/or accomplish the goals and objectives of the Police Department. This positions works less than 950 hours per year and on average, works less than 20 hours on average per week.
Under supervision, a Police Cadet is a non-sworn, part-time classification that assists police personnel in a variety of operations in order to gain practical knowledge of law enforcement. Qualified candidates will obtain practical work experience that supports their career goals.
$13.00 - $15.80/hr.

DEFINITION: The Cadet Program is designed to introduce recent high school graduates (ages 18 to 24) to a law enforcement career and to prepare them for entry into the Police Academy.
