MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is completion of 60 college semester units. Previous volunteer or paid experience in a law enforcement support area is desirable.
 
Other requirements include:

• Must be free from any disqualifications for employment, including felony convictions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
• Must be 21 years of age or older at time of appointment.
• Must be fingerprinted for purposes of search of local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose a criminal record.
• Must be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation.
• Must be a high school graduate, pass the General Education Development Test or other high school equivalency test approved by the State Department of Education that indicates high school graduation level, pass the California High School Proficiency Examination, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.
• Must be found to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition, including bias against race or ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, disability, or sexual orientation, that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. 
• Must be able to meet physical, psychological and background standards. 
• Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. 
• Must be able to obtain required POST certification and maintain firearms qualification.

If you are unable to attend the City of Berkeley exam dates, you may register and take your exams with The Academy. The Academy charges a non-refundable materials fee of $10 for the written exam, $25 for the practice PAT, and $100 for the official PAT. After taking the exams and receiving passing scores, please attach your scores to your application.

POST will not authorize you to take the exam within 30 calendar days of having taken your last POST written exam. Please refer to the POST website for additional information.

Applicants may waive the written exam only by submitting a California POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) T-score of 48 points or higher. We will accept California POST T-scores from other agencies provided the test was taken no more than one year prior to the date of application. Applicants must submit, on agency letterhead, a letter that states that the individual has taken the California PELLETB written exam. The letter must contain the total T-score and the date of the test. For information on where the PELLETB test is offered, please visit www.theacademy.ca.gov/tests.

Applicants may waive the performance exam only by submitting a California POST physical agility certificate, known as the Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB), with a score of 325 or higher.  The 1.5-mile run is not a requirement.  The test should not be dated no more than one year prior to the date of application.

Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.

Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

Fremont Police Department is the law enforcement agency for the City of Fremont, California. As of 2024, the department consists of over 300 staff, of which more than 200 are sworn personnel, and more than 100 are professional staff.  Fremont Police Department was first established under the direction of Chief Richard E. What You’ll Do

The Assistant to the City Clerk position serves as the welcoming and friendly face of government for both the City Council and the City Clerk’s office as this position is the first contact for the front counter and the primary receptionist. The position requires an ability to help demystify government services and processes, learn and maintain an understanding of all government services and procedures and help citizens get to the right service. The position’s administrative functions include responsibility for records management including filing and scanning; managing off-site records inventory; managing and ordering office supply inventory; writing correspondence, creating certificates of commendation and writing proclamations on behalf of the Mayor. This position is also charged with maintaining multiple calendars, processing reservations and invoices and acting as primary administrative support for Council and the City Clerk. Excellent attention to detail, writing and proofreading skills are required and a positive upbeat attitude with the ability to be flexible, resilient, and creative when situations change is essential. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, a passion for making a difference and helping citizens, and a desire to grow in this field.

Some of the duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Attend meetings as required, may prepare meeting minutes, may assist in City Council agenda preparation and follow-up, as needed; manage Council reservations, correspondence and calendars
• Manage, implement, and monitor the Clerk’s records management programs, including document imaging, the receipt, storage, retrieval and disposition of official City records; work with records representatives from other departments and train them in the process
• Assist with coordinating the bi-annual City-wide Records Clean-up Event; maintain comprehensive indexing and filing system of City Council actions, including resolutions, ordinances, deeds, contracts, and agreements; provide research to staff and the public on information needs, as needed

• Ensure that meeting facilities are properly prepared
• Maintain logs and manage Council and Clerk correspondence and responsiveness from other departments; receive, sort and distribute incoming and outgoing correspondence

THE POSITION: 

The City of San Pablo is actively recruiting for a Community Services Coordinator I/II position to plan, organize, and direct services and programs within the Community Services Department for our senior population, volunteer programs and city-wide special events. The City of East Palo Alto is seeking an outgoing, collaborative, responsible Police Records Clerk I (classification title Police Records Clerk I/II. At this time, we are only seeking a level I. THE POSITION:

TYPICAL DUTIES:

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher II acts as the Department’s primary dispatcher, receiving and relaying incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance; dispatching police units; operating a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch systems; status monitoring, records and file maintenance in a computer-aided environment; and entry level dispatch training. A Dispatcher II may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Have a combination of education and work experience, including a minimum of 1 year of dispatch work; general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm (net).  Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. Willingness to work varying shifts and radio dispatching skills.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The City of Pleasant Hill offers a competitive compensation and benefits program.

• Salary:  $6,538 to $8,468 per month. Placement within the range depends on experience and qualifications.  
• Medical Benefits: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 80% of monthly premiums at each coverage level. SELECTION PROCESS

CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT: Candidates are encouraged to apply early.  Initial screening of applications is tentatively set for March 29, 2024.  After that, applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.  You must ensure complete submission of employment application and typing certificate as recruitment may close at any time.  The most qualified applicants based on background and experience as evidenced by their application, will be invited for an oral board interview, which is weighted 100%.  To be placed on an eligibility list, an applicant must receive a passing score of 70 or more from each panel member.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Burlingame Police Department is a municipal, full service, community oriented department.  We offer a variety of investigative, preventative, and community policing programs to both protect and serve a community that spans five square miles and is home to more than 28,000 residents.

POSITION
Burlingame Police Officers are responsible for preventing crime, arresting law violators, directing traffic, etc.  In that capacity, officers may also serve in special assignments such as K-9, detective, SWAT, hostage teams, FTO, and motorcycle patrol.

• Use sound conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
• Arrest persons with or without warrants and physically take into custody, guarding arrestee.
• Administer first aid and CPR.

Skills:

• Operation of police vehicle at high rates of speed during emergency situations.
• Use police vehicle radios as well as hand-held portables and use proper radio codes.
• Use hand-held and/or electronic equipment for drug and alcohol detection.
• Ability to process for and lift latent evidence.
• Finger print and take palm prints from arrestees.
• Use departmentally issued firearms safely and safety equipment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must be a US Citizen, at least 21 years of age on date of appointment, a US high school graduate (or GED equivalent), have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.  Must be able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions, read, comprehend, write, and speak English effectively.

Entry Level - Proof of completing the POST Written Test and Physical Agility Test with a passing score.

Lateral Police Officer - To be considered for a lateral Police Officer appointment, candidates must have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer within the past twelve (12) months, including the completion of the field training program and probation period with a law enforcement agency.

Applicants with more than a three year break in employment as a California Police Officer or who are an out-of-state Police Officer must provide evidence of successful completion of the CA Basic POST Course waiver process.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Those most qualified candidates submitting the required documents in person to the Burlingame Police Department will be invited to participate in oral interviews and other elements of the selection process.

BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
Finalists will be required to undergo a thorough background investigation and criminal/vehicle records check.  Employment offers are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical/drug screen and psychological examination.  Past substance abuse and criminal activity may be grounds for disqualification but all candidates will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
