This is the entry journey level classification in the City's sworn police officer series. Incumbents may enter the class either as a recruit, academy graduate or lateral status. Police recruits are entry-level positions with little or no related training or experience required. Recruits must complete a State certified Police Academy prior to appointment to probationary status as a police officer. PATROL WORK SCHEDULE: 4 days on (11 hours) / 4 days off
ALL Patrol officers have the opportunity to work through each of the available shifts annually
Pay rate published is base pay only - see MOU for the multitude of specialty and incentive pays available.
NOTE: This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies. Successful candidates must be willing to work a shift schedule, which includes days, nights, weekends and holidays. Shift assignments are determined by seniority. Any prospective candidate will need to pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination before being hired by the Salinas Police Department.
This is a Level I Peace Officer designation that performs a wide variety of duties in the enforcement of law and order; and to carry out special assignments in the protection of life and property within the City of Ceres. Receives general supervision from a police sergeant or other designated authority.

THE POSITION Under general supervision, this non-sworn, non-peace officer position performs assignments involving responsible public contact work in crime prevention and delivers non-emergency police services; also performs related duties as required.

Police Office I:
Under general supervision, a Reserve Police Officer performs a variety of law enforcement and modern crime prevention work; controls traffic flow; patrols an assigned area for the prevention of crime and enforcement of federal, state and local laws and regulations, and arrests violators as necessary; performs investigative work; and other related law enforcement work as required.
