ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for enthusiastic and energetic Office Assistant I to support our newly established Utilities Department. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of something groundbreaking for our agency and for the Gilroy community. As an Office Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations and be the backbone for all administrative efforts and providing stellar support for the team. The Office Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Utilities Director and will also assist the Management Analyst with data quality and reporting. The Office Assistant must be highly organized, detailed oriented, and efficient and effective with the use of their time. Additionally, the person filling this position must be self-motivated, self-directed, committed to providing quality results.  The work environment is both supportive and fast paced. Having an approachable and friendly demeanor along with excellent customer service skills is vital to this position.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for a full-time Environmental Programs Manager in our Public Works Department. In this exciting opportunity the Environmental Programs Manager (EPM) will be at the forefront of shaping and implementing environmental initiatives that have a lasting impact on our community.  The EPM will work under the supervision of the Public Works Director and will oversee a comprehensive environmental protection program and ensure compliance in the areas of solid waste, waste reduction, recycling, green waste, municipal stormwater system, and energy and natural resources conservation. The Environmental Programs Manager is poised to make significant contributions to a variety of environmental programs that require management, coordination, and compliance. This position is an exempt, mid-management level position that must exercise competent discretion and judgement in the performance of duties and interactions with others. This position will be included with the Gilroy Management Association employee group.

The City of San José, Office of the City Attorney is seeking an entry-level attorney in the Transactional division. Under the direction and supervision of senior management in the Office of the City Attorney, the Associate Deputy City Attorney position will perform basic attorney work benefiting a variety of City Departments while receiving valuable training and experience for a career in public service. This position will be assigned increasingly complex legal work under supervision in support of various City Departments in areas including public works, procurements, employment, land use planning, environmental services, public safety, utilities and housing. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This entry-level classification in the Program Leader series is responsible for providing child development services in Youth Services programs. Incumbents at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of knowledge or skill level as positions allocated to the Senior Program Leader level, and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

1. Provides support duties for child development services in Youth Services programs; assists children in activities; prepares and serves snacks based on established guidelines; performs clean-up and food storage duties.

2. Assists in preparing instructional, craft, and other materials; participates in, and encourages, play activities with the children; may assist in providing tutorial and/or remedial activities in small groups.

3. Uses positive reinforcement strategies to maintain order and discipline within the classroom; handles disruptions as needed.

4. Opens, secures, and cleans program areas before and after program use; prepares program areas for scheduled activities and events.

5. Assists in the implementation and monitoring of District procedures with respect to participant safety.

6. May participate in staff meetings, family conferences, and other special meetings; observes and monitors family conditions and notifies supervisor of concerns as appropriate.

7. Assists with maintaining required and appropriate documentation, including observation notes, logs, and other records.

8. May participate in public relations, outreach, and community education activities.

9. Attends staff training, workshops, and courses as directed by supervisor.

10. Assists with District special events as needed.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

•  High School Diploma or GED, or currently enrolled in child development Regional Occupational Program (ROP).
•  Experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting is desirable.

Knowledge of:

• Child development services, operations, and activities.
•  Modern office practices, methods, computer equipment, and applications related to the work.
•  Principles and practices for providing high level of customer service

Ability to:

•  Learn policies, rules, regulations, operations, services, and activities related to assigned activities.
•  Assist in maintaining the safety of program activities and participants. 
• Maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner.
•  Perform work as directed in an efficient, effective, safe, and timely manner.
•  Make basic mathematic calculations with speed and accuracy.
•  Demonstrate strong customer service skills, and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships.

Licenses and Certifications:

Completion of American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED training within six months of hire and maintained throughout employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess: mobility to perform medium physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The classification supports indoor and outdoor programs requiring frequent walking, running, conducting exercises, and related physical activities. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, or tools and equipment used in assigned program area. Program activities may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; the ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. May be exposed to communicable illnesses, blood, and body fluids. Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and holidays.

The Position

The Solid Waste Manager reports directly to the Environmental Services Manager and is responsible for the administration of multiple integrated waste management contracts and programs within the Environmental Services Division. This position supervises a team of technical staff who execute various integrated solid waste management activities and may serve as the division head in the absence of the Environmental Services Manager.

Examples of Duties

• Manage multiple City franchise agreements for solid waste collection, material transfer and recovery, and landfill disposal including negotiating contract terms and monitoring performance.
• Oversee the division’s solid waste programs including planning, organizing, and implementing programs to create environmentally sound and cost-effective methods for the disposal of garbage and household hazardous waste, recovery of recyclables, diversion of organic material, and waste prevention.
• Plan, develop, and oversee the work of integrated waste management staff, providing leadership and fostering staff development.
• Receive and respond to complex customer service requests concerning scope of program, technical information, and service delivery issues.
• Oversee the Division’s public education, outreach, and special events to promote environmentally responsible and sustainable behavior.
• Analyze proposed legislation affecting integrated waste management activities, develops and implements program and policies to ensure City compliance with regulatory mandates.
• Conduct analysis and prepare reports and documents as required by regulatory agencies and for City Council study sessions and meetings.
• Participate in budget preparation and administration.
• Make presentations to City Council, boards, commissions or other public groups and acts as the City designated representative as assigned.
• Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in environmental health, sanitation or a related biological field. State certification in pesticide use and safety and vertebrate vector control is desirable. 

Other requirements:

• Registration by the State of California as an Environmental Health Specialist.
• Valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

This position is responsible for performing transactional paralegal duties related to legal transactions for the Housing Department. The ideal candidate will be a Paralegal experienced in preparation and/or review of real estate loan documents, closing of escrows for real estate financing transactions (including review of preliminary title reports and title policies), will be detail-oriented with good organizational and computer skills, and will have good writing and analytical skills. Typical assignments may include preparation and/or review of real property financing documents and other lender documents, real property acquisition documents, escrow instructions, and consultant and grant agreements. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, drafting and/or reviewing resolutions and ordinances, coordination with City or other government departments or agencies, involvement in the Council agenda process, and responding to public record act requests. The skill level of this position places strong emphasis on accuracy, attention to detail, and strong analytical skills. Incumbents must be proficient in the use of various types of software in the Windows environment.

Depending upon qualifications, the successful candidate may be hired at the Legal Analyst I or Legal Analyst II level. The annual salary range for a Legal Analyst I is $80,676.96 to $98,083.44, and the annual salary range for a Legal Analyst II is $88,058.88 to $107,016.00. Both ranges include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate's qualifications and experience.
