CIVIC FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland has established a paid summer fellowship program for individuals early in their career seeking public service experience. This program invests in our local work force and fosters a passion for careers in the public sector. During the eight (8)-week program, fellows will work with a city department and participate in program-wide activities.
Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, up to 40 hours per week. For more information, visit cityofwoodland.org/1429/Civic-Fellowship-Program.
This fellowship posting is for the Community Services Program Specialist in the Community Services Department.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Community Services Program Specialist will be creating a foundation for Spanish-language programs for seniors. This will involve identifying relevant (and recent if plausible) studies surrounding the topics of aging, retirement, Spanish-speaking people living in the USA, relevant historical and cultural context, senior isolation, and anything related, reviewing what other senior centers are offering, developing relationships with key organizations that can support Spanish-language programs and resources, and organizing a class/presentation series using regional partners to introduce more Spanish-language programs for seniors in Woodland.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from the designated City employee.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is bilingual (Spanish), and is studying Recreation, Gerontology, Research, or other related fields.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of high school education
- Local Woodland knowledge preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and perform multiple tasks with accuracy
- Possess a high degree of initiative
- Excellent meeting facilitation skills, including the ability to effectively present information to a wide variety of audiences
- Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Bilingual (Spanish), both written and oral

Salary Range
$19.00 - $24.00 / hour dependent on experience.
