LARPD is seeking a summer intern to support the Summer Youth Volunteer Program.  Applicants should have the equivalent of one year of college credits completed toward a degree.  Candidates interested in learning about recreation, volunteer management, and community services will be given preference.  Interested candidates should complete an application online. Community Outreach: Summer Youth Volunteers Project Plan 

The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience managing high school aged volunteers that will support a variety of summer camps and programs throughout the district.  

Key duties 

• Be primary point of contact for Summer Youth Volunteers. 

• Assist with volunteer orientation and ongoing training sessions throughout the summer. 

• Oversee volunteer schedule. 

• Track volunteer hours logging. 

• Create program completion documents. 

• Assist with planning end of summer recognition event. 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Maintain volunteer hour tracking and create end of summer recap report. 

• Complete summer training and check-in reports. 

• Create and distribute volunteer completion certification with hours totals for all summer volunteers. 

• Report any concerns from staff and volunteers or development opportunities for volunteers through regular check-ins. 

What learning will occur for the intern? 

• Experience managing volunteers. 

• Learn how summer programs work/run in a special district.  

• Gain familiarity with volunteer management software. 

• Graphic design creating infographics and end-of-summer reports. 

• Communication opportunities both with program staff and volunteers. 

Timing 

June-August 9th.  Interns may start and end later but need to be present for the core Sessions slated for the entire month of June, July and through August 9th.  

Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 25-30 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.

SUMMARY

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives immediate supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and direction from lead staff. Exercises no supervision over staff.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This entry-level classification in the Program Leader series is responsible for providing child development services in Youth Services programs. Incumbents at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of knowledge or skill level as positions allocated to the Senior Program Leader level, and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

1. Provides support duties for child development services in Youth Services programs; assists children in activities; prepares and serves snacks based on established guidelines; performs clean-up and food storage duties.

2. Assists in preparing instructional, craft, and other materials; participates in, and encourages, play activities with the children; may assist in providing tutorial and/or remedial activities in small groups.

3. Uses positive reinforcement strategies to maintain order and discipline within the classroom; handles disruptions as needed.

4. Opens, secures, and cleans program areas before and after program use; prepares program areas for scheduled activities and events.

5. Assists in the implementation and monitoring of District procedures with respect to participant safety.

6. May participate in staff meetings, family conferences, and other special meetings; observes and monitors family conditions and notifies supervisor of concerns as appropriate.

7. Assists with maintaining required and appropriate documentation, including observation notes, logs, and other records.

8. May participate in public relations, outreach, and community education activities.

9. Attends staff training, workshops, and courses as directed by supervisor.

10. Assists with District special events as needed.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

•  High School Diploma or GED, or currently enrolled in child development Regional Occupational Program (ROP).
•  Experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting is desirable.

Knowledge of:

• Child development services, operations, and activities.
•  Modern office practices, methods, computer equipment, and applications related to the work.
•  Principles and practices for providing high level of customer service

Ability to:

•  Learn policies, rules, regulations, operations, services, and activities related to assigned activities.
•  Assist in maintaining the safety of program activities and participants. 
• Maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner.
•  Perform work as directed in an efficient, effective, safe, and timely manner.
•  Make basic mathematic calculations with speed and accuracy.
•  Demonstrate strong customer service skills, and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships.

Licenses and Certifications:

Completion of American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED training within six months of hire and maintained throughout employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess: mobility to perform medium physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The classification supports indoor and outdoor programs requiring frequent walking, running, conducting exercises, and related physical activities. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, or tools and equipment used in assigned program area. Program activities may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; the ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. May be exposed to communicable illnesses, blood, and body fluids. Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and holidays.

We're looking for a Supervising Public Health Nurse to manage programs in our Public Health Division! Join us in our mission to achieve health equity and optimal health for all people in Berkeley through systems change, service provision, and collaboration with community members and partners.

As a Supervising Public Health Nurse, you will have the opportunity to direct the Family Support Services Unit or the Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Unit. You will supervise nursing and support staff, develop program goals and policies, and perform professional nursing work within your program. You may also coordinate and supervise the operation of health-related services like Targeted Case Management and programs involving education, prevention, and coordination of resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university (accredited by the National League for Nursing) with major coursework in nursing and four (4) years of general public health nursing experience with involvement in project leadership or program planning, including one (1) year of lead-level experience. A master's degree in public health or public health nursing is desirable.

• Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse License
• Possession of a valid California State Public Health Nursing Certificate
• Willing to work evenings or weekends

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Possession of an M.D. or D.O degree from an accredited medical or osteopathic school and completion of a psychiatric residency training program approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Behavioral Health Clinician I:
Behavioral Health Clinicians at this level provide a variety of community behavioral health services to clients and to the community in an outpatient setting. Responsibilities include conducting assessments; performing case coordination, care management, and rehabilitative services; providing diagnosis and treatment plans; providing psychotherapy; providing linkage to resources and support to maintain resources; and preparing reports, case summaries, and other required forms.

Behavioral Health Clinician II:
At this level, Behavioral Health Clinicians handle more complex or difficult client cases. In addition to the responsibilities of a Behavioral Health Clinician I, incumbents at this level may lead teams conducting intake assessments and crisis intervention. 

Required Qualifications

Both positions require a master's degree from a recognized school of Social Work, Counseling, Psychiatric Nursing, or other Marriage and Family Therapy eligible discipline, or a doctorate degree in Psychology. 

Behavioral Health Clinician I:

Field placement of at least one (1) year in a medical, psychiatric, or community mental health setting

AND

Registration as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW), and/or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) with the State of California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) OR a Registered Psychologist with the Board of Psychology. 

Behavioral Health Clinician II: 

Two (2) years of experience in an out-patient clinic, hospital, child guidance clinic, mental health program, or family agency which included regular psychiatric consultation

License as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, LPCC, or Psychologist, as provided for by California state law.
