THE POSITION 

Under immediate supervision (Parks Maintenance Worker I) or general supervision (Parks Maintenance Worker II), performs semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work assigned to the parks division; operates maintenance and construction tools and equipment; performs a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Parks Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or non directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Parks Maintenance Worker II: This is the full journey level class within the Maintenance Worker series. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Handle complaints and answer questions from the public.
2. Perform general electrical, painting, plumbing and carpentry work as needed.
3. Make minor adjustments on service equipment; maintain tools and equipment in working order.
4. Oversee the work of community service workers.
5. Maintain logs of daily activities.
6. Assist in other areas as needed.
7. Perform related duties as required.
8. Inspect park grounds, structures, medians and related facilities for safety, appearance, and vandalism; remove graffiti from park surfaces.
9. Clean and clear park grounds, facilities, structures and playing fields of debris and potentially dangerous conditions; set up park for special events.
10. Plant, mow, prune, and maintain turf, trees, shrubs, and plants; clear sites of weeds.
11. Perform a wide variety of semi-skilled tasks in the construction and repair of park and community facilities.
12. Install, maintain, repair, and program irrigation systems.
13. Operate grounds maintenance equipment as well as a variety of hand and power tools.
14. Apply pesticide, herbicide, and other pest management treatments.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Principles and practices of maintenance and repair activities related to area of assignment.

Parks Maintenance Worker I

Education/Training:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience:

One year of experience in construction or maintenance work is desirable.

License or Certificate:

Possession of a California Class C Driver License.

Parks Maintenance Worker II

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience:

Two years of experience in area of assignment equivalent to the Maintenance Worker I in the City of Ceres.

License or Certificate:

Possession of a California Class C Driver License.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from high school and five (5) years of increasingly responsible journey level experience in integrated solid waste collection, diversion and disposal which included two (2) years at the level equivalent to the Solid Waste Supervisor class.

Other requirements include possession of a valid class "C" California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Candidates must be willing to work evening, early morning, holidays, and weekend shifts. Candidates must report changes in status of driver’s license.

Role description

This recruitment will be used to fill both full-time and part-time positions.

Under general supervision, operates a variety of transit vehicles such as diesel and electric motor coaches, cable cars, streetcars and light rail vehicles; transports passengers along a specific route and makes designated stops as required; accepts fares, issues transfers, gives general directional information; and performs related duties as required.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties
According to Civil Service Commission Rule 409, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive list.

1. Conducts pre-operational inspection of the transit vehicle, in accordance with federal and state laws and departmental regulations, to ensure it is functioning properly.
2. Inspects the passenger compartment of the vehicle to ensure it is free from hazards (such as spills, loose handrails and stanchions, defective seats, etc.) and that the video camera lenses are not obscured.
3. Safely navigates the vehicle through traffic along assigned routes, under various environmental conditions, in accordance with traffic laws and departmental regulations.
4. Operates the disability access lifts to assist people in wheelchairs onto the vehicle and properly secures their wheelchairs when they are on the vehicle.
5. Collects fares from passengers and issues transfers; checks passenger transfers, fast passes, and electronic passes to ensure they are valid.
6. Uses vehicle's intercom system to communicate instructions to passengers and to call out vehicle stops and transfer points.
7. Responds to customers' questions regarding routes, directions, fares and transfers.
8. Conducts a post-operational inspection of the outside of the vehicle to detect defects and body damage, broken windows, and graffiti.
9. Contacts Central Control regarding various emergencies such as medical emergencies, vehicle malfunctions, vehicle evacuations etc. and/or circumstances that may affect service such as heavy traffic, road hazards, road obstructions etc.
10. Completes accident, incident and/or miscellaneous reports to document unusual occurrences.
11. May include additional duties as assigned.

Nature of Work: Incumbents in this class may be required to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends; to work outdoors in all weather conditions; and to use computers. In addition, may require standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time; performing different physical activities such as pulling poles, cranking switches in the subway, resetting retrievers to return disabled transit vehicles to service and assisting in the movement of disabled vehicles when possible. All employees, and prospective employees must comply with FTA and San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency mandates. All operators bid for assignments by seniority. Work hours and days off may change several times per year.

 

How to qualify

1.  Must be at least 21 years old by April 30, 2024 AND
2.  Possession of a valid High School Diploma, GED or California High School Proficiency Certificate AND
3.  One (1) year of verifiable satisfactory public contact or customer service experience AND
4.  Possession of a valid class C Driver License. Must have been a licensed driver for at least three (3) continuous years from April 30, 2021 through April 30, 2024 AND
5.  Possession of or the ability to obtain a Class B - Driver License with a Passenger (P) Endorsement and no restrictions that prohibit operation of a San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency public transit vehicle AND
6.  A good driving record during the three (3) years between April 30, 2021 through April 30, 2024 and through the date of appointment, meeting the following requirements: 

• No more than 1 moving violations between April 30, 2023 and April 30, 2024;
• No more than 3 moving violations between April 30, 2021 through April 30, 2024;
• No accidents where applicant contributed to cause; 
• Has not had driving privilege suspended, revoked, or placed on probation more than once for a cause involving the unsafe operation of a motor vehicle; 
• No convictions of California State Vehicle Code Section 20001 (leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury or death); Sections 23103 through 23109 (reckless driving); or Sections 23152 - 23153 (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs), or equivalent convictions in another state;
• Other violations and/or accidents will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may be cause for non-selection AND

7.  No convictions within the past seven (7) years between April 30, 2017 through April 30, 2024 of any offense related to the use, sale, possession, or transportation of narcotics, habit forming drugs, or dangerous drugs AND
8.  No convictions of any sex offense as defined in Section 44010 of the Education Code AND
9.  Ability to obtain a School Pupil Activity Bus (SPAB) certificate issued by DMV.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has determined that Class 9163 Transit Operator is a “safety-sensitive” position, under regulations issued by the Federal Transit Administration (49 CFR Part 655). Federal law requires that all transit employees who perform safety-sensitive functions be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing. All applicants for Safety-Sensitive positions shall undergo urine drug testing prior to employment and within 90 days prior to performing Safety-Sensitive functions for the first time. Receipt by the SFMTA of a negative test result is required prior to the employee being placed on the payroll. A positive, adulterated, negative dilute or substituted test will result in a decision not to hire, and the applicant’s name will be removed from the list of eligibles for Safety-Sensitive positions. The SFMTA will not consider hiring any person who tested positive, adulterated, substituted or refused to submit to testing for a minimum of two years following the positive test.

In addition, each applicant who has worked for a Department of Transportation (DOT) – regulated employer(s) within the last two years will be required to sign a consent form, prior to appointment, authorizing SFMTA to obtain information from their prior employers concerning their drug and alcohol test history. Each applicant will also be required to provide SFMTA with information regarding whether, during the last two years, the applicant tested positive or refused to test on any pre-employment drug or alcohol test administered by an employer to which the applicant applied for, but did not obtain, safety-sensitive transportation work covered by DOT drug and alcohol testing rules. Class B Permit with Passenger (P) endorsement and Airbrakes: 
Applicants who are successful in the examination process and who do not possess a Class B Driver License with Passenger (P) endorsement and airbrakes, will be required to obtain a Class B Driver Permit with Passenger (P) endorsement and airbrakes prior to starting the Transit Operator training.

Transit Operator Training:
All employees must successfully complete the SFMTA Operator Training Program consisting of both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. The rate of pay for a trainee is $31.0375 per hour.

Attendance to all training sessions is required. If a candidate misses any dates of training without providing proper notification, they will be released from their training class. If proper notification was provided, a candidate released during the training period due to attendance may request to be placed back on the eligible list to be considered for future classes, if the list from which they were hired is still active. Candidates may only request to be placed back on the eligible list one time.  Any candidate not approved to be placed back on the list or not able to be placed in another training class before the list expires will need to re-apply during the next filing period for applications.

The Transit Planner Assistant has basic knowledge of the operating procedures and policies of transit and/or transportation planning. TRANSIT PLANNER ASSOCIATE

This is an experienced-level class within the Transit Planner series and will receive general direction from the Transit Manager. Work given to an incumbent in this class involves general analysis and development of transit programs and services, research of new trends in public transit and comparing how Union City provides service delivery, and participation in coordination events or meetings on behalf of Union City resulting in recommendations based on the incumbent’s work. JOB SUMMARY: The San Mateo County Transit District is seeking a highly technical IT Operations Supervisor to join our team. Under the supervision of the IT Operations Manager, the Supervisor will coordinate the efficient and effective operations of the Help Desk team for the District, including work direction and supervision of Help Desk staff and coordination with other District information technology staff. This position is responsible for planning, assigning, and directing work; documenting and gaining approval for all help desk support procedures and system documentation; and assisting team members in answering calls, addressing service or escalation issues, and applying independent decision making to resolve problems or escalate problems to management. The IT Operations Supervisor develops regular reports on help desk contacts, ensures that service levels are met, identifies trends and makes recommendations for service improvements, and provides budgetary recommendations to management for service growth and/or improvement.

IT Operations Supervisor will work closely with various users in San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain), and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) and other departments and is responsible for managing all procedures related to the identification, prioritization, and resolution of end user help requests, including the monitoring, tracking, and coordination of Help Desk functions. DEFINITION

To perform a variety of skilled work involving the trimming, removal, installation, and general maintenance of trees; to operate and maintain all tree maintenance equipment; and to perform related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey level class in the Tree Maintenance class series. Positions in this class perform duties requiring greater skill and experience. All positions assigned to the class require the ability to exercise judgment and initiative, and to direct the activities of lower-level staff in tree maintenance operations.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Parks Supervisor. Lead supervision is also provided by the Tree Lead Worker.

Exercises technical or functional supervision over lower level and less experienced personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following)

·      Climbs trees using ladders and climbing equipment or works from bucket of an aerial lift truck boom to perform tree maintenance tasks, pruning, limb removal, or line clearing.

·       Establishes safe work zones and adheres to safe work practices including the use of personal protective equipment.

·       Directs the work of the immediate support crew in a safe and effective manner.

·       Operates all types of tree maintenance equipment such as aerial lift trucks, chainsaws, brush chippers, sprayers, stump grinders, or other tools and equipment.

·       Keeps records of work performed, including damage to property.

·       Assists in the training and supervision of lower-level staff.

·       Maintains tree maintenance equipment.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: (The following are representative sample of the KAS’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position)

Knowledge of: Materials, equipment and methods used in care, trimming and removal of trees; tree planting, and maintenance methods; pruning standards of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Principles of training. Safety measures relating to the pruning, removal and general maintenance of trees in populated areas.

Ability to: Direct activities of immediate subordinates; perform manual labor; monitor supplies and materials; analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action; set up safe work sites in traffic, learn the geography of the city; work cooperatively with other City crews; establish and sustain work routines. Perform aerial rescues. Perform high climbing and pruning work in City trees. Pass annual training and perform First Aid and CPR.

Skills: Ability to safely and efficiently operate aerial lifts, brush chippers, tractors and implements, spray rigs, front end loader, blower, chain saws, stumpers and cutters, gas pole saw, hydraulic tools, shop tools, limb lowering devices. Rig trees for safe and efficient high climbing.

QUALIFICATIONS: (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)

Education and/or Experience: Sufficient education and experience to perform the above duties efficiently. Typically, this is obtained through achievement of Certified Tree Worker status, and equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in tree care work.

License/Certificates: Possession of valid 'Class C' California Motor Vehicle Operators License; Certified Tree Worker Certificate (ISA) and Certified Line Clearance certificate within one year of appointment; and First aid and CPR certificate within one year of appointment.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
