Job Description: 

The intern’s workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to proof reading, poster design, grassroots marketing, implementing events, organization of record management, benchmarking, photographing activities and research. The position will serve as a regular staff member and will receive assignments and work direction from the Community Services Supervisor. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a college student or recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

Qualifications:

• Current Undergraduate College Student or Bachelor’s degree in Community Services/Recreation or related fields
• Knowledge of principles and practices of organization and recreation
• Interest in local government
• Strong oral & written communication skills
• High level of computer skills
• Effective interpersonal skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public
• Applicable previous experience
• Self-motivated

Job Description:

The Town of Los Altos Hills is recruiting a college intern to work in the Community Development Department. The intern will split time between the planning and building divisions of CDD. The role for planning will include support of both short range and long range planning.  Interns working on long range planning will work primarily as a research aide for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation.  For short range planning and the building division support interns will be focused on day to day permit activities, but may also work on other more general department duties as needed.

Examples of Duties:

• Conduct research and analysis of State Law and Fair Housing requirements for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation
• Conduct field investigations as necessary
• Prepare and conduct surveys in association with the Housing Element implementation progress and reporting
• Creating illustrative graphics, flyers and informational handouts
• Providing planning customer support at the public counter/virtual counter
• Other general Department tasks to include but not limited to: research, response to inquiries, assisting staff, filing, data entry, and record keeping

Qualifications:

• Completion of at least two (2) years and current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree or Graduate degree program with major course work in urban planning, geography, architecture, environmental studies and/or related field.

Or;

• Recent graduation from a program listed above.

The Administrative Services Department has a rewarding full-time, 40 hours per week, non-benefited summer internship opportunity to begin in June of 2024. The main function of the job is to perform municipal research and analytical work on an entry level professional basis.

The workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to town-wide capital inventory, risk management, citizens’ requests, record management, benchmarking, policy analysis and research. The position will serve as a regular staff member, and will receive assignments and work direction from the Administrative Services Director. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration or related fields, or expected college graduation in Summer 2024; completion of some course work for a master’s degree in public or business administration, political science, planning or a closely related field in desired;
• Knowledge of principles and practices of organization and public administration;
• Interest in local government;
• Strong oral & written communication skills;
• High level of computer skills;

Job Description:  

The intern will work in the Public Works/Engineering Department and will be assisting engineering project managers with general clerical, administrative, field work, and technical tasks for public works projects.  Tasks may include electronic document filing, checking mathematical calculations, creating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel, preparing presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint, entering data and creating reports in various software applications, performing field data collection or investigation, construction management, internet research, creating map displays using Auto CAD, Google Maps/Earth, compiling and organizing data or documents.  The intern may also assist in other areas such as internal and external Department communication and public outreach.

Qualifications:

• Ability to learn new information quickly
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and web-based resources
• Ability to prioritize assignments and utilize good organizational skills
• Exhibit a positive attitude and flexibility in accepting assignments
• Have an interest in working in public sector engineering and construction management
• CADD experience is desirable

THE POSITION:  Assist staff attorneys in providing a wide range of professional legal services to City departments, City Council, and various boards and commissions.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
•    Law School Student

TYPICAL ASSIGNMENTS: The primary projects will most likely include the following: 
•    Perform legal research and prepare memos on various legal issues for City departments, the City Council, and various boards and commissions.
•    Assist with preparing and drafting ordinances, resolutions, administrative policies, contracts, deeds, leases and other legal documents and instruments; assist with reviewing such documents and offering opinions regarding legal compliance when presented to the City for consideration by an outside agency.
•    Assist with investigation of claims and complaints against the City and recommend action to be taken.
•    Assist the attorneys with preparing cases for administrative hearings. 
•    Assist in responding to citizen complaints and requests for information.
•    Assist attorneys acting as staff counsel to the Planning Commission, Personnel Board, and other boards and commissions.
•    Assist in the preparation of cases for small claims court.

In addition, the intern may work on a variety of other projects depending upon their time and interests.
