The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Senior Librarian with the Berkeley Public Library! In this role, you will have the opportunity to have a leadership role within the Teen Services division under the supervision of the Supervising Librarian, coordinate system-wide teen (ages 13 to 18) outreach programming, purchase items for the Teen collections, and assist in budget development.

We currently have one Senior Librarian position open in our Central Support (Teen Services Division) at our Central Branch.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science and three (3) years of experience as a professional librarian. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

A valid California driver's license is desirable. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem- solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.  The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community.

The Position

As a member of the HSD assigned to the AFS, the Senior Program Coordinator will organize, coordinate, and implement community wellness programs for older adults. The Community Programs include health promotion activities such as health screenings, wellness classes, and educational activities. The position works within a team that includes volunteers, health promoters, nurses, social workers and mental health workers. The position facilitates community awareness and partnerships, with individuals and agencies, to promote an age-friendly environment.

• Serve as a member of a departmental team providing programs and services designed to improve the quality of life of City residents.
• Administer one or more program areas.
• Assume direct responsibility for program design and implementation.
• Oversee day-to-day program operations.

We are seeking an innovative and proactive Building Official with a positive, forward-thinking perspective. The Building Official will manage all building division functions (building permit issuance, plan check, and building inspections). The position reports to the Community Development Director. THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library is seeking energetic individuals to provide a wide variety of library support work. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Assisting at the Accounts Desk; checking out and checking in of library materials; registering patrons for library cards; financial transactions at the Accounts Desk; promoting library services and providing consistent, excellent customer service. This recruitment is for two 19-hour Per Diem Library Assistant I positions that support Circulation services at each of the three San Mateo Public Library locations. An eligibility list will be created for future openings in this classification.  This recruitment will also be used to fill several on-call Library Assistant positions*.

• Explains library policies and procedures to patrons and staff

• Leads book discussion groups

• Helps to maintain social media connectivity to the library public.
• Works collaboratively with staff, the community and special interest groups.
• The Librarian II performs all of these tasks but at a more difficult, higher level. May serve as Person-in-Charge when Branch Manager is absent.
