The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for one Senior Park Utility Worker: Tree Maintenance in the Department of Public Works.  This position will lead a small crew (2 to 4 person crew), where the incumbent performs the work duties assigned as well as directs and oversees the work of the crew members.

Under general supervision, leads and performs journey-level landscape maintenance tasks and does related work, as required.

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

High school diploma or GED equivalent, AND Four years of related tree maintenance experience, some of which shall have been at a level equivalent to Utility Worker or Maintenance Worker II with the City of Sunnyvale.

Required Licenses

Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class B California driver's license and a safe driving record is required.

Salary:  $38.08 - $48.60 Hourly

The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Staff Specialist I/II in the Community Engagement Office. This is an open recruitment for two (2) full-time, limited-term contract positions. Both positions are for a 3-year term.
 
This is a Limited Term Contract Employee (LTCE) Position.  LTCE positions are funded by grants or other designated funds which are not part of the Air District’s ongoing general fund budget.  LTCE positions are subject to individual employment contracts and are limited to the duration of their funding source.  Regular employees have the right to apply for an LTCE position.   However, LTCE positions are not subject to the terms of the Employee Association MOU, and LTCE employees serve on an at-will basis.  
 
About You in the Position
Are you interested in reducing air pollution and improving health outcomes in the most impacted and overburdened communities in the Bay Area? Are you motivated to develop and implement plans, projects and policies that address air pollution injustices and inequities?
 
The Assembly Bill 617 Staff Specialist I/II will support outreach, engagement and partnerships with communities overburdened by air pollution to advance solutions towards equity and environmental justice. One position will support two teams that are working to co-develop local Community Emissions Reduction Plans with environmental justice communities in East Oakland and Bayview Hunters Point/ Southeastern San Francsico as part of the Air District’s Community Health Protection Program (Assembly Bill 617). Another position will support the Richmond/ North Richmond/ San Pablo team that is working towards implementation phase of the Community Emissions Reduction Plan. The Staff Specialist will work with teams to implement outreach and engagement activities to support monthly Community Steering Meetings, including:

• Creating agendas and taking detailed notes for internal planning meetings and external meetings with community-based organizations, Co-Chairs, Co-Lead partners on AB 617 community projects.
• Coordinating and facilitating meetings with community members. 
• Creating and reviewing template PowerPoint presentations and agendas for conformance with guidelines and policies.
• Coordinating or working with a consultant on event planning and logistics for virtual, hybrid and in-person monthly Community Steering Committee meetings and other sub-committee meetings.
• Effectively communicating, in writing and orally, to wide variety of audiences, including government staff, community residents, businesses and Board members.
• Actively interpreting complex and technical information to community members. 
• Drafting contract Scopes of Work, participating in bid processes, reviewing and analyzing invoices received from consultants and cross referencing with Scope of Work, provides status of invoice payments, monitoring contract budget and confirmation of payments. 
• Conducting routine outreach and communication on behalf of the Air District to community members.

 
Assembly Bill 617
Assembly Bill (AB) 617 (C. Garcia, Chapter 136, Statutes of 2017) was signed into law alongside Assembly Bill 398 which extended California’s cap-and-trade program for greenhouse gas emissions. AB 617 addresses environmental justice concerns regarding the extension of the cap-and-trade program by requiring the California Air Resources Board, with input from community groups, air districts and others, to select locations around the state to prepare community-led plans to reduce emissions of toxic air contaminants and criteria pollutants. Communities can also be selected to prepare community-led monitoring plans. The primary requirement for community selection is a demonstrated high cumulative exposure burden to air pollution and associated health disparities. In the Bay Area, and around the state, these communities are often low-income communities of color.
 
In 2017, West Oakland and Richmond were selected as the first communities to participate in the AB 617 program. Since then, East Oakland and Bayview Hunters Point/Southeast San Francisco communities have been added to the program. The Air District works closely with these communities to both develop and implement emission reduction and monitoring plans.

DEFINITION
Under direction, performs a variety of responsible administrative, technical and specialized functions in the areas of incentives, contracts, business services, finance, budget, and facility management; and performs related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Staff Specialist I is the entry level in this series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn District, state and federal procedures and policies while performing the more routine technical duties. As experience is gained, assignments become more diversified and are performed with less supervision. This class is alternately staffed with Staff Specialist II and incumbents may advance to the higher level classification after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher level class.

Staff Specialist II is the journey level class of this series, fully-proficient to perform difficult and technical work. Incumbents are expected to exercise independent judgment.

This class is distinguished from Senior Staff Specialist in that the latter is responsible for more complex work and may perform lead duties.

 

Examples of Duties for this Position

Reviews, analyzes, and administers a variety of grants, contracts, and other agreements in support of District activities; monitors expenditures and charges against agreements; prepares fiscal status reports for management and prepares cost analyses.

Coordinates and facilitates workshops, meetings, and trainings on the technical application and interpretation of District programs, regulations and rules; makes presentations and develops supporting technical materials.

Prepares and presents staff reports to the District's Board of Directors, and/or sub-committees; conducts research and prepares and presents reports as assigned.
 
Provides routine outreach and communication on behalf of the District with industry, the public and other agencies to obtain and disseminate technical and operational information.
 
Prepares and responds to correspondence directed toward public and private organizations relative to programs; responds to oral and written requests for information about programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Staff Specialist I: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree and two years of professional analytical experience.

Staff Specialist II: In addition to the above, two years of professional analytical experience.

Contacts are regularly made both internally and externally at all levels of the organization involving tact, discretion, good listening and customer service skills. The position requires creative ability, knowledge of how to generate graphics using The Adobe Suite, Canva, Microsoft Publisher, Word and Excel and the ability to exercise a reasonable degree of independent judgment. This classification assists with development and implementation of standards for consistency in materials, written and posted on the internet. WORKING CONDITIONS
Position is required to work on the Community Center campus and may not work from home. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination when using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision when reading and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, push and pull files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required. Incumbents may provide training and technical guidance to staff.

This class is distinguished from Senior Air Quality Specialist in that the latter provides lead direction and is responsible for more complex work.

• Reviews and develops draft regulatory language.
• Develops and implements cost effectiveness and incremental cost effectiveness calculations for a wide variety of sources in industries with a variety of control options.
• Coordinates and works closely with internal and external professional and technical staff and perform complex scientific research and engineering evaluation for developing regulations to control air pollutants (including those contributing to climate change and contributing to localized air quality impacts in overburdened communities).
• Works closely with internal and external professional and technical staff to perform and review economic analyses and environmental analyses.
• Analyzes and develops emissions inventories to determine baseline emissions and reduction estimates for rules under development.
• Engages and interacts with external stakeholders such as affected industry representatives, community advocates and residents, other governmental staff members, and technical experts.
• Works closely with other Air District divisions to enhance engagement and strengthen partnerships with key community stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills is:
 

Education

Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with major coursework in chemistry, computer science, electronics, engineering, environmental science, mathematics, meteorology, physical sciences, physics, or a closely related field.

AND

Experience:

Air Quality Specialist I: Two (2) years of experience performing duties equivalent to the Air District’s Assistant Air Quality Specialist II, including performing air quality inspections; installing, operating and maintaining air monitoring and quality assessment instruments and equipment; or developing and administering air quality programs.  

Air Quality Specialist II: Four (4) years of experience performing air quality inspections; installing, operating and maintaining air monitoring and quality assessment instruments and equipment, or developing and administering air quality programs, of which at least two (2) years included performing work equivalent to the Air District’s Air Quality Specialist I.

Substitution:  Any combination of relevant training and work experience in the listed or related fields may substitute for the education criteria on a year for year basis.

Other Requirements

Must be willing to attend meetings outside of regular working hours.
 

Desirable Qualifications

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
• Understanding of structural and institutional racial inequities and environmental injustices causes and solutions.
• Awareness of interpersonal skills necessary to effectively work in a team setting.
• Experience with data analysis including evaluation of emissions inventories and air quality exposure modeling results.

The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Community Health Worker Specialist! In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform paraprofessional duties related to preventive and supportive health care services. The current vacant position is in disease investigation, where you will assist in the control of disease outbreaks by conducting interviews with persons diagnosed with reportable diseases, their contacts, and healthcare providers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years of paraprofessional experience in a public health or related setting, supplemented by formal or approved in-service training, which has provided additional expertise and demonstrated proficiency in an area of specialization such as training, examination, screening, counseling, or outreach.

Additional health science and community health coursework may be substituted for the experience on a year by year basis, to a maximum of one (1) year.

Other requirements: Some positions require a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Must be willing to work evenings or weekends. Some positions require bilingual or bicultural skills. PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: PAL Program Attendants work with Suisun City’s PAL Program and with area teenagers ages 13-19 to implement educational and recreational activities: tutoring, sports, games, mini-excursions, competitions, contests, seminars, and special events, and provide general support to the program’s Recreation Supervisor. We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.
