Join the amazing Adventure Camp team with the Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department and play a role in creating a positive and inclusive environment for our campers. The department is seeking mature and dynamic Recreation Leaders that want to make a difference while having fun!
This is a temporary, part-time position and shifts may vary depending on the program and type of Recreation Leader (not to exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year)
About the Position:
The position is under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Camp Activities: Lead and participate in a variety of exciting camp activities, including but not limited to outdoor sports, team-building challenges, arts and crafts, and themed events.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with fellow staff members to create and implement engaging programs that cater to the interests of our campers.
- Camp life: Bring your enthusiasm to our camp, where stories, songs, and smiles create a memorable atmosphere.
- Leadership: Serve as a mentor and role model for campers and volunteers, creating a positive and inclusive community.
- Weekly Adventures: Embark on off-site adventures, show campers the thrill of going on rollercoasters throughout the bay, or show them a new animal at the Oakland Zoo. Adventure Camp goes swimming every-week and staff are required to make a splash with them in the water!
There are 3 Adventure Camps thought the year.
Summer Camp (2024 Adventure Camp will run from June 17th, 2024 - August 16th, 2024)
- Staff will receive 5 days of approved Vacation.
- Adventure Camp is closed Thursday July 4th and July 5th for Independence Day.
- Winter Break Camp (Late December- Early January)
- Spring Break (Late March / Early April)
The position is under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator.
- Recreation Leader 1 are typically high school students.
- Recreation Leader 2 are typically high school graduates and college students.
- Sr. Recreation Leader are typically college graduates.
Duties will vary depending upon assignment and level of Recreation Leader.
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work at Vacation Camps
- Schedule and implement age specific camp activities for the week
- Provide direct leadership for participants and volunteers
- Attend field trips and swim days to ensure safety of participants
- Observe and take precaution to secure the safety of participants during camp hours
- Maintain a clean and orderly camp supply closet and camp space
- May be responsible for opening and closing facilities
- Work at a variety of City special events or programs
Knowledge of:
Philosophy, methods and techniques used in planning and leading Vacation Camp programs as well as knowledge of safety, recreation equipment and materials.
Ability to:
Plan, organize, and lead a variety of recreational activities. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to assimilate and understand information in a manner consistent with the essential job functions. The ability to relate effectively with the public.
Education and Training:
Mandatory paid training dates:
June 11th - CPR & First Aid Certification Training
June 12th - 15th - All Staff Training
