POSITION

THE POSITION

The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for staff to assist with events at the Rocklin Events Center and other locations in the City. The Events Venue Specialist (Program Assistant) is a temporary position and incumbents work on an as-needed basis, not to exceed 28 hours per week and up to 999 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employment does not provide any guarantee of continued employment and the City of Rocklin may end the assignment at any time. Temporary employees are not eligible for any other benefits except where required by law and there is no guarantee of future permanent employment.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Performs light janitorial duties (e.g., empty trash, clean restrooms, and restock supplies) before, during, and after events.
• Sets up audio visual equipment at venue site.
• Checks clients in and out of City venues.
• Takes prospective renters on tours of facilities and answers questions about pricing and equipment at each rental location.
• Ensures client needs are met.

THE  SCHEDULE 

A typical schedule looks like this:  

Evening and Night shifts Sunday through Thursday

Shifts vary from 7am - 1am Friday and Saturday

Night and weekend availability is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be 18 years of age

Six (6) months of volunteer or work experience in the area assigned is highly desirable

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. 

PART TIME STATUS:

This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited position.  Work schedule is up to 40 hours per week during the summer season and is limited to 1,000 hours per year. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include:

Beach Lifeguards are responsible for marine safety protection.  Under general supervision, guards an assigned area of beach from a station; patrols a section of beach in a mobile unit; warns of hazardous conditions; rescues people in distress or in danger of drowning; answers questions and gives information pertaining to the beach and ocean environment; applies first aid to those in need; removes hazardous obstacles from sand and water; takes charge of lost children; advises regarding local beach and ocean-related ordinances, regulations, safety and conduct; maintains a professional and courteous relationship with the public and performs other related work as required.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

• 18 years of age or older (or high school graduate) on or before July 1, 2024 (proof required).
• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
• Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergencies.
• Ability to analyze situations and determine proper course of action.

• Ability to interpret and explain policies and procedures.

TRAINING PROGRAM

Acceptable candidates will be entered into the lifeguard training program. Candidates will be trained in all phases of ocean lifeguarding techniques and procedures.

A written and practical test will be administered on Sunday May 19, 2024 to those candidates who have successfully completed the lifeguard training program. Beach Lifeguards will be selected based upon their test results and their performance during the training.

Beach Lifeguard trainees are compensated at $16.54 per hour. Successful trainees who are appointed as Beach Lifeguards will then be compensated at the higher Beach Lifeguard pay rate. 

Candidates who are hired as Beach Lifeguards must be available for 40 hours per week for the entire summer season.  This requirement may be waived for extenuating circumstances on a case-by-case basis.

We are now hiring part-time Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors for our aquatics programs!

Located at the McBean Memorial Pool, our Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors are an essential part of the aquatics recreational programs that we offer our residents.  Be a part of a team that makes teaches important swimming skills and allows everyone to beat the heat and have fun!

We are looking for candidates with qualities such as reliability, creativity, dependability and enthusiasm.  The aquatics programs will require you to work various days, weekends or evenings, but we are flexible with schedules.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Maintain constant surveillance as assigned to safeguard swimmers from drowning and other accidents.
• Maintain discipline and orderly conduct among patrons and enforce all pertinent City pool rules and regulations in order to maintain a safe environment. 
• Promote and enforce water safety procedures; effect swimming rescues; render first aid and CPR as required. 
• Assist in conducting classes at all participant skill levels (beginning through advanced) and supervise the conduct of swimmers in City pool in order to maintain a safe environment. 
• Perform pool facility maintenance functions as required. 
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service. 
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Certificates:

Standard First Aid Certificate and Community Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate required. Training opportunities provided upon hiring.

ABOUT POSITION:

This position is a part-time, non-benefited position. Work hours may vary, and schedules can be up to 29 hours per week as needed. There are no guaranteed minimum number of hours per week. Hours of operation of the Seal Beach Tennis & Pickleball Center are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 9:30 pm and Saturday/Sunday from 6:30 am - 5:30 pm.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Individual will work primarily at the City’s Seal Beach Tennis & Pickleball Center performing duties including, but not limited to, greeting and supervising patrons, handling of payments inside the Pro Shop, enforcing rules and regulations of the facility, opening/closing the facility, removing trash, restocking supplies, and general court maintenance, including court washing, locker room cleaning, and overall security of the facility.

This position will also work periodically as staff for facility rentals at the City’s community centers for various functions such as wedding receptions, baby showers, and birthday parties. This position may also help assist with scorekeeping for Adult Sports programs, including basketball and softball.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Ability to: Communicate effectively (both written and verbally); make good decisions; push, pull, drag, lift or carry equipment/supplies up to 50 lbs., lean, stoop, twist, bend and kneel in performance of job duties. 

Experience & Training: One year experience working for Parks and Recreation Departments or similar experience and general knowledge of tennis and sports is desired.
