What You’ll Do

The Engineering Manager will provide and participate in critical team leadership in assuring that all engineering services, goals, projects and initiatives meet the high-performance standards of the Department and City. Demands of this position will continue to evolve and change to respond to community needs. Adaptability and flexibility are important for success in this position. An Engineering Manager receives general direction from a Deputy Director of Public Works or higher-level department personnel and exercises direct supervision over professional, technical and clerical staff.

Village Park Preschool Program

Village Park Preschool is a play-based preschool program offered by the City of Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department. We offer 5 programs: Lil’ Sprouts (2 year olds), Cottage Kids (3 year olds), Playschool Villagers (3 year olds), Afternoon Owls (3 year olds), and Camp Treehouse (3-4 year olds).  The emphasis of the program is physical, social, and emotional growth in a child-centered environment. The City of Burlingame is looking for an enthusiastic, organized, creative, and responsible Preschool Site Coordinator. Under direction of a Recreation Supervisor, the Preschool Site Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Village Park Preschool ensuring a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children. This role involves managing staff, coordinating programs, communicating with parents, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties

• Program Oversite
  • Coordinate with teachers and staff to ensure lesson plans, schedules, and classroom activities align with educational standards and goals.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of programs and make adjustments as needed to meet the needs of children and families.
  • Manage supply lists and shop for required materials.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee age-appropriate curriculum and activities that promote children's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development.
  • Lead a variety of activities including, but not limited to, arts and crafts, organized games, story time, music/singing activities, science, cooking, early writing skills, and interactive circle time.

• Parent Communication 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a responsive and professional manner.
  • Facilitate open communication and collaboration between parents, teachers, and staff to promote a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Send emails to parents with child and class updates.

• Administrative Duties 
  • Prepare monthly newsletter.
  • Manage Village Park Preschool Instagram.
  • Complete assigned paperwork, including timecards and incident reports.

• Safety and Compliance 
  • ​​​​​​​Enforce policies and procedures related to child supervision, hygiene, emergency preparedness, and security measures.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and materials to ensure they meet safety and quality standards.

Under general supervision, the new team member will perform sub-professional engineering work involving manual and computer drafting, traffic data gathering, records management, map interpretation and processing, retrieval of information, assist with field surveys, and to do related work as required. • Plan, organize, and implement activities that support early childhood education and socialization;
• Lead a variety of activities including, but not limited to, arts and crafts, organized games, story time, music/singing activities, science, cooking, early writing skills, and interactive circle time;
• Ensure proper safety precautions are observed;

• Report any supply requests and facility maintenance needs;
• Set up daily snack, change diapers and support toilet training;

Description

The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders for Summer 2024.  The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. Program elements include fitness, enrichment, cultural events, special events, sporting events, trips, and community events. It is the goal of the Recreation Department to offer a balanced program ensuring all elements are offered to all age groups throughout the year. This is a part-time position. Hours will range from 20-37 hours per week.

This position is under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. Leaders will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the Summer Day Camp at Sterling Park.

Position Summary

 

Under supervision of the Ironworker Superintendent, performs structural maintenance, repair and construction for the Golden Gate Bridge and other District facilities as required. Following plans and specifications, lays-out and fabricates a wide range of items.

SELECTION PROCEDURES may include:

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Performs maintenance, repair and construction for the Golden Gate Bridge and other District facilities including, but not limited to, the following: 
  1. Maintenance, repair, and replacement of steel components and fasteners. 
  2. Rigging for other crafts. 
  3. Installs and repairs of chain link and other fencing. 
  4. Shop fabrication of steel items and erection of structural and miscellaneous steel items. 
  5. Placement of reinforcing steel for concrete. 
  6. Maintenance of toll collection facilities and equipment. 
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.
• Performs additional related duties as assigned
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance is required

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education and/or Experience: Completion of Ironworker’s Apprenticeship. Four years’ Structural Ironworker experience required; welding and shop fabrication experience desirable. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for completion of an Ironworker Apprenticeship Program; applicants substituting additional qualifying experience for an Ironworker Apprenticeship Program should attach a statement supporting the additional qualifying experience. 

  

Required License: Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record. No reckless driving and DUI infractions within the last 7 years. No more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years. May operate District vehicles.

 

Physical Requirements:  Must be able to perform heavy manual labor. Work is performed outside in varying weather conditions. Must be able to stoop, bend, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. Will be required to wear a respirator, or other personal protective equipment involving full body protection. Must be able to work comfortably at considerable heights from platforms, ladders, floats or suspended scaffolds; climb and walk on the Bridge cables; and climb ladders.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Knowledge of:

• Occupational health and safety rules and working practices applicable to this position
• Methods, tools, equipment and procedures used in steel fabrication, and erection, maintenance and repair 
• Methods, equipment and procedures for installation and maintenance of rigging for access systems

The City of Foster City is looking for an experienced Associate Engineer with a passion for public service. This position will provide exposure to large-scale projects and community engagement and performs engineering work on the following types of capital improvement projects:  buildings, parks, levee, storm water systems, lagoon, streets, traffic signals, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems.

We are seeking highly skilled individuals with the competence and experience to address challenges with confidence and professionalism. Individuals that demonstrates skills in any of the following areas: land development, transportation/traffic engineering, and storm system management. Independently management for the design and constriction of capital improvement projects and AutoCAD experience are highly desirable. 

Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a directly related field, and three (3) years of professional experience in civil engineering work including project design, plan checking, and project management.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license upon appointment.
• Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California, desirable.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications and supplemental questionnaires received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Public Works department will make the hiring decision.

THE DEPARTMENT:

The Engineering and Transportation Department (ETD) is a new department resulting from a recent organizational assessment. The study reviewed the Community Development and Transportation Department’s Planning, Engineering, and Transportation divisions and aimed to identify operational efficiencies, technology improvements, and a staffing structure better aligned with the workload in order to improve efficiencies. As a result, the Engineering and Transportation functions will now operate as a stand-alone Department with a new Director and Assistant Director. The first step in implementing the Study’s recommendations is to hire a Director and Assistant Director, one of whom will serve as the City Engineer. The new Director, reporting to the Assistant City Manager responsible for land use and development functions, will have functional responsibility for land development, engineering, and transportation, including the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which includes utilities, civic projects, and construction inspection.

The new Engineering and Transportation Department is supported by 24 FTE and has a FY 2023-24 Capital Budget of approximately $38 million in general infrastructure and transportation projects and $13 million in utility infrastructure projects. The Five-Year CIP (FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28) totals $473 million, including citywide projects. Major projects include an impressive list of transportation projects, such as the SR84/US101 Freeway Interchange, grade separations along the Caltrain rail line, parking, and transportation demand management and Vision Zero implementation, and various traffic calming and roadway projects. Other major projects entail the Transit Center, the Water Master Plan implementation, finalizing and implementing a Recycled Water Master Plan, and various Stormwater System improvements. Future priorities will involve developing an Adaptation Plan to address Sea Level Rise and the Redwood Shores and Bayshore protection projects.
