The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders for Summer 2024.  The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. Program elements include fitness, enrichment, cultural events, special events, sporting events, trips, and community events. It is the goal of the Recreation Department to offer a balanced program ensuring all elements are offered to all age groups throughout the year. This is a part-time position. Hours will range from 20-37 hours per week.

This position is under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. Leaders will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the Summer Day Camp at Sterling Park.

Job Description: 

The intern’s workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to proof reading, poster design, grassroots marketing, implementing events, organization of record management, benchmarking, photographing activities and research. The position will serve as a regular staff member and will receive assignments and work direction from the Community Services Supervisor. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a college student or recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

Qualifications:

• Current Undergraduate College Student or Bachelor’s degree in Community Services/Recreation or related fields
• Knowledge of principles and practices of organization and recreation
• Interest in local government
• Strong oral & written communication skills
• High level of computer skills
• Effective interpersonal skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public
• Applicable previous experience
• Self-motivated

Job Description:

The Town of Los Altos Hills is recruiting a college intern to work in the Community Development Department. The intern will split time between the planning and building divisions of CDD. The role for planning will include support of both short range and long range planning.  Interns working on long range planning will work primarily as a research aide for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation.  For short range planning and the building division support interns will be focused on day to day permit activities, but may also work on other more general department duties as needed.

Examples of Duties:

• Conduct research and analysis of State Law and Fair Housing requirements for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation
• Conduct field investigations as necessary
• Prepare and conduct surveys in association with the Housing Element implementation progress and reporting
• Creating illustrative graphics, flyers and informational handouts
• Providing planning customer support at the public counter/virtual counter
• Other general Department tasks to include but not limited to: research, response to inquiries, assisting staff, filing, data entry, and record keeping

Qualifications:

• Completion of at least two (2) years and current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree or Graduate degree program with major course work in urban planning, geography, architecture, environmental studies and/or related field.

Or;

• Recent graduation from a program listed above.

The position will serve as a regular staff member, and will receive assignments and work direction from the Administrative Services Director. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration or related fields, or expected college graduation in Summer 2024; completion of some course work for a master’s degree in public or business administration, political science, planning or a closely related field in desired;

Job Description:  

The intern will work in the Public Works/Engineering Department and will be assisting engineering project managers with general clerical, administrative, field work, and technical tasks for public works projects.  Tasks may include electronic document filing, checking mathematical calculations, creating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel, preparing presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint, entering data and creating reports in various software applications, performing field data collection or investigation, construction management, internet research, creating map displays using Auto CAD, Google Maps/Earth, compiling and organizing data or documents.  The intern may also assist in other areas such as internal and external Department communication and public outreach.

Qualifications:

• Ability to learn new information quickly
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and web-based resources
• Ability to prioritize assignments and utilize good organizational skills
• Exhibit a positive attitude and flexibility in accepting assignments

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting an undergraduate or graduate-level City Administration College Intern for the summer of 2024. This internship will provide a significant opportunity to gain experience and exposure and accumulate skills that are used daily in various city government programs that make substantial impacts to the community. These programs are in the areas of the City Clerks office, emergency management, economic development, public information and outreach, and other municipal administration programs and services.
 
The City Administration Intern will perform a variety of functions under the direction of the City Administrator and supervision of the Assistant to the City Administrator.

VOLUNTEER WORK SCHEDULE 
Internships can start as early as May 31, 2024 and end as late as September 30, 2024. 
 
This paid internship is offered at 15 - 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling. The selected Intern may request a schedule of their choice during standard work hours as described below. The office start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Recreation Activity Leader in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will organize, coordinate and lead a wide variety of indoor and outdoor recreation activities at City parks, playgrounds and recreation centers.

Current vacancies are seasonal positions for Summer 2024 (May to August). Recreation Activity Leaders may be assigned to: Tots, Pre-K, or Teen programs, playground programs, Berkeley Day Camp or specialty camps, or youth sports. You will also have the opportunity to work special events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills and abilities for this classification is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and either:

1) Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience leading a variety of athletic and recreation activities;
OR
2) Completion of major college coursework leading to a degree in recreation, physical education, group work or a closely related field may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis;
OR
3) Extensive training and/or experience in a specialized field of endeavor such as dance, ceramics, photography or nature study which has occurred over a period of several years and has resulted in an acceptable level of expertise and the ability to impart knowledge of this field to others.

THE POSITION:     

Under the direction of the Pool Manager, the Assistant Pool Manager is responsible for assigned aquatic program areas, and acts as Pool Manager during the Pool Manager’s absence. The Assistant Manager assists in the direction and supervision of the staff and programs at the facility. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly position. Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Acts as Pool Manager in the absence of same.
• Assist with pool staff assignments and scheduling.
• Perform lifesaving practices and standards according to accepted industry standards.
• Assist with training and supervision of staff and volunteers on assigned duties.
• Meet program goals and objectives, collect and maintain relevant statistical records and data.
• Acts in capacity of pool lifeguard.
• Assist in maintaining on-site security and safety of participants, staff, and others in the pool area, preparation and maintenance of incident records.
• Assist in organization, teaching and evaluation of swim lessons and pool activities.
• Enforce City and program rules and guidelines.
• Assist Pool Manager to monitor correct completion of required paperwork.
• Attend pertinent staff meetings as required during the season.
• Perform other program-related duties as assigned.
