The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for one Senior Park Utility Worker: Tree Maintenance in the Department of Public Works.  This position will lead a small crew (2 to 4 person crew), where the incumbent performs the work duties assigned as well as directs and oversees the work of the crew members.

Under general supervision, leads and performs journey-level landscape maintenance tasks and does related work, as required.

Required Licenses

Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class B California driver's license and a safe driving record is required.

Salary:  $38.08 - $48.60 Hourly

About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff. Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Requirements: Must have the ability to  learn Midpen lands, pertinent laws and regulations and contact, educate and inform the public about the lands and regulations ; administer first aid and CPR; operate and maintain various power tools and equipment; operate two-way radios; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; and other duties as assigned.

Certificates Needed: A valid California driver license is required upon appointment; valid professional rescuer CPR certificate and basic First Aid certificate (Midpen will offer training to candidates who do not possess CPR/First Aid certificates upon appointment).

Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Six months experience working in a customer service related field.  Some experience or training in a parks settings is desirable.

Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (either Mondays/Tuesdays off OR Thursdays/Fridays off).  Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

Assistant Planner - This is the entry-level class within the professional Planner series. This class is distinguished from the journey level by the performance of more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters allocated to the journey level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees have only limited or no directly related professional planning work experience. Employees work under general supervision while learning job tasks.


Incumbents may advance from the Assistant Planner to the Associate Planner level based on a recommendation by their supervisor and approval from the Director of Development Services or designee. Advancement may result after the incumbent gains sufficient knowledge and experience in professional Planning work, as well as City and departmental practices and procedures, to be able to consistently perform the work of the higher classification.

This class is distinguished from that of the Senior Planner, which is an advanced journey level class responsible for more complex and difficult planning projects and programs and exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.

 

 

Essential Duties

Research, analyze and interpret social, economic, population and land use data, trends and reports.

Prepare and present written reports on various planning matters such as elements of the general plan, neighborhood plans, demographic or housing analysis, code amendments, and miscellaneous land use studies.

Prepare and/or monitor preparation of environmental documents including environmental analyses of development impacts and related preparation of negative declarations and/or environmental impact reports; work with consultants in facilitating preparation of environmental impact reports and related findings and documentation.

Review building, site and architectural plans, use permits, zone changes, variances, development proposals, applications and other related documents for conformance to City standards and other applicable state and federal rules and regulations; serve as primary point of contact to developers and property owners in meeting these standards.

Prepare and update maps, graphs and other graphics for use in reports and public presentations.

Review and analyze development proposals and work with developers, the public and other agencies regarding various land use permits, general plan amendments, and zone changes.

Provide information to the public, developers, public officials and staff members about land use matters to clarify and assure conformance to city and state policies and regulations regarding zoning and other development controls, acceptable development proposals, compatibility with adopted plans and environmental impacts.

Make presentations to the Planning Commission, City Council, and other interested parties regarding land use applications, general plan amendments, zoning changes, code amendments, and special studies.

Analyze, interpret and apply regional, state, and federal regulations.

Coordinate ongoing planning related programs or projects involving multi-department and multi-jurisdictional cooperation; provide professional planning guidance in responding to questions or inquiries.

Attend and serve on intra-departmental and inter-agency planning committees.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

The Position

Superior Court of California, San Mateo County is seeking highly qualified individuals to fill one vacancy for a Court Commissioner. The appointment to this position shall be by the judges of the superior court and shall be under the general direction of the presiding judge.

Pursuant to California Rules of Court, candidates must have been admitted to practice law in California for at least 10 years or, on a finding of good cause by the presiding judge, for at least 5 years.

The commissioner’s duties include the subordinate judicial duties set forth in Code of Civil Procedure Section 259 which include but are not limited to conducting judicial hearings in a broad range of civil proceedings which may include family law, making findings of fact in traffic, small claims, and criminal proceedings and performing other subordinate judicial activities as may be conferred by law or by order of the court. The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill two temporary (Overstrength) full-time Community Activity Specialist vacancy in the BeautifySJ Prorgram. The position is currently funded through June 30, 2026. These two (2) Community Activity Specialist who will support the Encampment Management Team with the implementation of the no return/no encampment zone for encampments. In addition to this assignment, these two positions will assist the encampment abatement teams with weekly abatement activities including noticing encampments, referrals to partner departments for outreach, providing education on encampment setback areas. The position daily engagement with those residing in homeless encampments. Those selected for the positions can expect to work in-person, 40 hours per week with a typical in-person schedule of Monday-Friday.

• Posting encampment abatement notices at encampments
• Engaging with those who reside in homeless encampments to educate them on the "no return zone" and other encampment setbacks

• Coordinate with city officials, other City Departments, law enforcement, and service providers to ensure a unified approach to clearing and managing encampments
