Salary Range is $268,899 - $310,428 negotiable; depends on qualifications. 
 

The City of Newark's Public Works Department has a mission of providing the most desirable and sustainable environment for the community by ensuring that all City property is maintained to the highest standards possible in an environmentally responsible manner; all buildings are safe, sound and of high quality; and all City facilities are designed, constructed, and function to the highest degree of safety and utility in a cost-effective manner.

The person spearheading this is the Public Works Director. Under administrative direction from the City Manager, the Public Works Director plans, oversees, and directs the activities and operations of the Public Works Department including engineering, maintenance, environmental services, and building inspection divisions. This position participates as a member of the City Manager’s Executive Team in the consideration of general City policies, programs, and concerns; and serves as a technical advisor to the City Council, Planning Commission, City Manager, other City departments, and civic groups. The Public Works Director exercises direct supervision to division managers (City Engineer, Chief Building Official, Environmental Services Manager, and Maintenance Superintendent) and indirect supervision of other professional, technical, and administrative staff; including developing, evaluating, and recognizing staff performance. All Department work is directed and coordinated by the Public Works Director. This includes determining and administering major departmental policies, planning long-term programs, and developing and implementing the City’s Capital Improvement Program. The Public Works Director prepares and administers the Department budget and capital improvement budget as well as manages and oversees the activities of the environmental services section, including the City’s Climate Action Plan. Other environmental services programs and initiatives that the Public Works Director manages and oversees include integrated waste management, recycling, stormwater, climate protection, and sustainability programs. This position also responds to complex and sensitive community concerns and confers with contractors, developers, and the general public.

The ability to prepare and present to the City Council and other municipal boards and commissions is required along with attendance and participation in professional group meetings. The Public Works Director must stay up to date on new  trends and innovations in the field of public works; monitor changes in law, regulations, and technology that may affect the City or departmental operations; and ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and judicial mandates, regulations, and professional standards. Other duties include but are not limited to:

• Conferring with and advising staff on problems related to design, construction, and maintenance of streets, parks and landscaped areas, sewers, and other public works structures.
• Overseeing the maintenance of public works facilities and City equipment.
• Reviewing plans, technical engineering reports, budget estimates, and proposed ordinances and regulations.
• Explaining and interpreting depart- mental programs, policies, and activities; negotiates and resolves significant and controversial issues.
• Directing the conduct of special studies related to activities of the Department and submitting recommendations on projects and programs to the City Manager.
• Implementing policy and procedural changes as required.
• Participating and developing depart- mental and organizational total quality review.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Sanitation District is recruiting for a full-time Administrative Assistant II position.  Under general supervision, this position provides responsible, varied, secretarial and office administrative assistance to the department.    

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

• Set up and maintain financial, statistical, and operational records, including reviewing departmental payroll submittals and various time sheets.
• Administer and maintain complex procedures, including issuing permits, submitting required information/forms for the inter-governmental reimbursements and/or grant monies; and as related to assigned program areas.
• Prepare, distribute, and post agendas and minutes for a variety of meetings; provide additional administrative support which may include the transcription of recorded or written information.
• Create, edit, and update departmental information on the internet and intranet.

HONORARY DEAN ALLISON INTERNSHIP

The City of San Rafael Public Works Department (DPW) is seeking an individual to join the team as part of the Honorary Dean Allison Internship program. This position will work part-time (up to 4 days/30 hours per week) with department staff on special projects and move forward the mission of San Rafael to support the community members we serve. 

The Honorary Dean Allison Internship was created to honor Dean Allison, the City’s Public Works Director from September 2015 to March 2016, before his untimely passing. In his brief time with the City, he embraced and embodied the ideals of public service and transparency. Duties and Responsibilities of the Honorary Dean Allison Internship may include:

• Assisting staff to develop and implement the City’s sidewalk maintenance program.
• Drafting, iterating, and designing policy to introduce the City’s tree ordinance, urban forestry initiative, and the City’s public asset inventory project 
• Assisting with the permitting, sediment, reporting and regulatory compliance in support of the City’s Dredging project.
• Designing content and materials for public dissemination and outreach regarding City projects, maintenance activities, and public safety information.
• Preparing written reports on DPW program activities.
• Creating, updating and auditing project financial spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.
• Conducting research and analysis of federal, state and local laws related to DPW engineering projects.

• Participating in city-wide projects in which DPW public works programs and activities.

Qualifications:

• Graduated or currently enrolled in the 3rd year of a Bachelor’s degree program or higher in an Engineering, Business, Public Administration, Environmental Science, or related program.
• Ability to multitask and stay organized.
• Proficient computer efficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.

THE POSITION: 

The City of San Pablo is actively recruiting for a Community Services Coordinator I/II position to plan, organize, and direct services and programs within the Community Services Department for our senior population, volunteer programs and city-wide special events. Our senior programs provide opportunities for adults 50 years of age and older, to engage in active and healthy programming. The Church Lane Senior Center hosts a congregate lunch program, numerous senior focused special events, weekday door-to-door transportation service (managed by a different full-time coordinator) and drop- in programs and classes. The city hosts 10-12 city-wide special events each year that include family dances, spring egg hunt, Cinco de Mayo celebration, Movies Under the Stars, 4th of July Multi-Cultural celebration, Halloween, Veterans Day and a Winter Wonderland Festival. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Associate Transportation Engineer in the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department! 

When assigned to development review, you will have the opportunity to review residential, commercial, industrial and public works project plans, traffic impact reports, and other development and design related documents for compliance with City of Berkeley standards and regulations including all applicable local, state, and federal codes and guidelines; evaluate and recommend mitigation measures to address adverse impacts of development projects; review plan checks for small developments; and review traffic control plans for construction projects.

When assigned to capital projects designs and traffic signal systems, you will have the opportunity to manage capital improvement projects including development of conceptual design options, detailed engineering design, bid, and construction administration; prepare council reports, conduct presentations, and respond to project-related public inquiries; design/review traffic engineering design elements for Complete Streets Projects and traffic calming projects; work with project development team to analyze street and road use for all road users focusing on safety and efficiency of transportation networks; and work with traffic signal maintenance team to maintain and upgrade city’s traffic signal system, including using Synchro traffic signal timing software. An ideal candidate in this role is proficient in scope, schedule, and cost management with managing multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously as well as working knowledge of complete streets design principles, traffic calming and traffic control elements, civil engineering, roadway design, and Citywide plans including Bike Plan and Pedestrian Plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and five years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, three years of which were at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer. A CA Registration as a Traffic Engineer is preferred. Candidates must also possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Desirable qualifications include a master's degree in Transportation Engineering/Planning or a related field.  

The Department: The Suisun City Police Department is a progressive and proactive law enforcement agency. As a result of its proximity to neighboring jurisdictions, the employees of the Suisun City Police Department remain extremely busy as they address the needs of the community.
