The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is seeking an Assistant/Associate Engineer for the Capital Improvement Plan Division. Candidates should be highly motivated, experienced, seek professional growth, and desire to lead and support in the delivery and review of various City projects.

As an Assistant/Associate Engineer, you would support our department’s mission to operate, maintain and improve the City’s infrastructure. Public Works is responsible for the maintenance, repair, cleaning, and construction of sewer and storm conveyance systems, wastewater treatment plant, streets, streetlights, traffic signals, active transportation infrastructure, publicly owned parking lots and garages, pump stations, a major lagoon, and dams and levees. Our department also reviews plans and inspects the construction of public improvements to serve new private residential, commercial, and industrial developments, and administers contracts for the collection, disposal, and recycling of solid waste. Public Works is also responsible for the City’s review and management of right-of-way impacts associated with private development and traffic operations.

What You’ll Do:

The Assistant/Associate Engineer will help support efforts to accomplish short and long-term project deliveries, while sustaining the City’s mission, vision, and goals. The position is considered for the following field of interest:

• The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Division’s key assignments include planning, designing, reviewing, and preparing detailed engineering plans, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, contracts, and related documents for a variety of capital improvement projects. Roles include project manager and construction manager, with duties that include leading coordination meetings, interfacing with construction contractors, outside engineering firms, construction inspectors, and other public agencies.

What You’ll Do

The Engineering Manager will provide and participate in critical team leadership in assuring that all engineering services, goals, projects and initiatives meet the high-performance standards of the Department and City. Demands of this position will continue to evolve and change to respond to community needs. Adaptability and flexibility are important for success in this position. An Engineering Manager receives general direction from a Deputy Director of Public Works or higher-level department personnel and exercises direct supervision over professional, technical and clerical staff.

The City of Pacifica is a beautiful coastal community, just south of San Francisco with an exciting opportunity. We are currently hiring an Engineering Intern to join our team. Under general supervision, the new team member will perform sub-professional engineering work involving manual and computer drafting, traffic data gathering, records management, map interpretation and processing, retrieval of information, assist with field surveys, and to do related work as required. This position will assist the Department of Public Works, Engineering Division.

This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited position. Hours are limited to less than 1,000 hours per year.

The City of Foster City is looking for an experienced Associate Engineer with a passion for public service. This position will provide exposure to large-scale projects and community engagement and performs engineering work on the following types of capital improvement projects:  buildings, parks, levee, storm water systems, lagoon, streets, traffic signals, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems.

We are seeking highly skilled individuals with the competence and experience to address challenges with confidence and professionalism. Individuals that demonstrates skills in any of the following areas: land development, transportation/traffic engineering, and storm system management. Independently management for the design and constriction of capital improvement projects and AutoCAD experience are highly desirable. 

Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a directly related field, and three (3) years of professional experience in civil engineering work including project design, plan checking, and project management.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license upon appointment.
• Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California, desirable.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications and supplemental questionnaires received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Public Works department will make the hiring decision.

Under the direction of the Custodial Services Supervisor, the Maintenance Custodian serves as the worker in the duties of care and cleaning of assigned buildings and related facilities.  The incumbent will be required to travel between several City buildings during their scheduled shift.

The City of Sausalito Invites Applications for the Position of

RISK MANAGER 

This position is located in the City offices.

This is not remote/hybrid work.

The Risk Manager plans, organizes, conducts, and directs the City's risk management programs. This position will oversee key areas such as insurance, claims administration, protection against damage to City property, loss control, contract insurance, indemnification, budget preparation, and may be involved in the oversight of workers' compensation and employee safety.

The City of Foster City has an opening for a Engineering Intern in the Public Works Department. The position is part-time with flexible scheduling, up to 980 hours per fiscal year, and no benefits provided. The department is interested in candidates for the summer or candidates who can start as soon as possible.  

Important and Essential Responsibilities: 
Daily responsibilities will include works directly with the Public Works staff, populating the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database, and performing indexing and data entry. Other duties may include providing project assistance to technical and engineering staff related to capital improvement projects, researching, CAD drafting, plan review, data collection and analysis, permit issuance, and compiling information from various sources, and providing administrative or other support in the Public Works Department. 

Education and Training Guidelines: 
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:

• Education: Graduation from high school. A degree or degree in progress in Engineering program in a school or university is required.
• Experience:  No experience is necessary; 6 months of paid or documented volunteer experience in a municipal agency is desirable.

Licenses, Certificates, Registration: 
Possess a valid California Driver's license with a good driving record.

Salary will be determined by experience and education.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Engineering, Maintenance, and Water Quality Control Plant divisions.  The Engineering Division is responsible for delivering facilities and infrastructures that meet the needs of City residents and complying with standards and requirements established in the engineering guidelines and the City's Master Plan.

The Engineering Division is headed by the Principal Engineer.  The Senior Engineer position is an advanced-level engineering classification requiring professional registration, performing a wide variety of engineering duties in civil, sanitary, traffic, and other municipal public works, maintenance, and construction engineering projects.  This class is distinguished from other lower-level engineering classes in that it provides direction to staff and performs the more complex engineering and project management assignments.  Assignments and projects may be long-term or may constitute a major portion of a continuous or comprehensive engineering or Capital Improvement Program.

THE POSITIONS

Associate Civil Engineer

Under general direction, the Associate Civil Engineer performs difficult professional engineering work in the design and construction of public works, including sanitary, traffic, and mechanical projects; leads and trains lower-level engineering staff on assigned projects; and does related work as required.
