We are hiring part-time Recreation staff to join our team! We are looking for candidates with qualities such as passion for working with children, reliability, creativity, dependability and enthusiasm.
WHAT IS THE JOB LIKE?
You can choose to work in one or more of our recreation programs. You can work for a season or year-around with the different programs! Based on the program, we will work around your schedule, even if it is limited or varies.
Camps
In this program you will be a leader and counselor, supporting campers who range in age from 5-12 years old. We offer camps year-around during Spring Break, Summer and Winter Break.
Recreational Sports
Each season we offer a different sport league including flag football, basketball and softball tournaments. These are fun programs as no two sports or seasons are alike! We have youth and adult leagues where you can choose when and which programs to work.
Field Prep for Sports
In this program you will be on the City's field and facilities for our youth and adult sports leagues. This includes prep for games and tournaments and general maintenance of facilities before, between and after games and seasons.
Special Events
Our special events are fun! They are an exciting way to connect with and engage our community. We have events year-around that you can be a part of to bring our residents a fun and positive experience.
ABOUT THE POSITION
You will receive supervision from administrative and/or management staff. Incumbents of this class do not routinely exercise supervision, but those at the higher-levels may be asked to supervise from time to time, but not on a consistent basis.
JOB DUTIES
- Develop and implement activities and programs for youth.
- Directly supervise children, monitor and redirect behavior, both on site and during trips.
- Assist with the creation and distribution of advertising material for upcoming recreational programs and events.
- Assist with the distribution & collection of participant surveys.
- Assist with the following: set-up and tear down of program equipment, preparation of
- playing fields and routine facility maintenance.
- Keep statistics and accurate score for basketball, softball, flag football, soccer & volleyball.
- Collect and record the team’s lineups and assist officials during the game with specific rules
- and policies.
- Officiate adult & youth volleyball, youth basketball & youth flag football games.
- Uphold the rules of play and code of conduct.
- Demonstrate understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties.
- Establish positive working relationships with City management and staff, and the public.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The incumbent needs to have the ability to hear and speak for purposes of communication. The position also requires both near and far vision when administering programs and operating equipment. The need to lift, carry and push equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. The incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
In this job you need knowledge of basic principles of reading, math and English. You will learn and understand occupational hazards, standard safety procedures and general workplace culture.
You must have good interpersonal and communication skills. Employees need to develop effective working relationships with fellow city employees, children and parents, as well as courteously respond to community issues, concerns and needs. You will sometimes work independently and sometimes as part of a team.
You are expected to have the ability to receive and follow written and oral instructions. Employees need to be able to lift up to 50 lbs for some programs.
THE SELECTION PROCESS
