ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a college intern to work in the Human Resources and Risk Management Division of the Administrative Services Department. The assignment will include work on a variety of projects such as updating related policies and forms, assisting with recruiting activities, and performing research, and playing a critical role in establishing new organizational programs.
This exciting opportunity will allow the selected candidate to increase their knowledgebase on a variety of Human Resources functions. You will learn about employee benefit and incentive programs, recruitment and hiring processes, payroll, labor agreement contracts, and gain practical HR experience while working in a fast-paced and supportive work environment. You will also gain hands-on experience with NeoGov, the leading applicant tracking software used by many public agencies as well as Tyler Munis HRIS and payroll database software system. You’ll also use your creative and organizational talents in assisting with development of monthly HR newsletters and wellness planning updates.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Human Resources Department interfaces with all departments across the City of Gilroy for collaboration on city-wide projects, benefits coordination, employee relations, and more. Interns will not only find support and assistance from within the Human Resources Department, but from across the organization. The City of Gilroy is committed to fostering an environment of learning and growth. Interns are provided with mentoring and hands-on learning experiences while being introduced to public service and local government policy.
VOLUNTEER WORK SCHEDULE
This internship can start as early as June 1, 2024, and end as late as September 30, 2024.
This paid internship is offered at 15 – 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling.
The official start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Provide support for Recruitment activities.
- Assist in developing a written ergonomics safety program.
- Assist in finalizing a Violence Prevention Program for the workplace to include coordinating employee training.
- Create an interview exit strategy for candidates.
