This Internship is offered as part of a Regional Internship Partnership to introduce and encourage new graduates to local municipal governments. Job Description: 

The intern’s workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to proof reading, poster design, grassroots marketing, implementing events, organization of record management, benchmarking, photographing activities and research. The position will serve as a regular staff member and will receive assignments and work direction from the Community Services Supervisor. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a college student or recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

 

Qualifications:

• Current Undergraduate College Student or Bachelor’s degree in Community Services/Recreation or related fields
• Knowledge of principles and practices of organization and recreation
• Interest in local government
• Strong oral & written communication skills
• High level of computer skills
• Effective interpersonal skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public
• Applicable previous experience

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Camp Leaders, Assistant Camp Directors & Camp Directors who are interested in working 25-40 hours per week during the summer.  You'll enjoy planning, organizing and conducting basic recreation activities in a variety of settings selected by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.

Position Details

Under close supervision, maintain constant watch over a public swimming pool facility to enforce regulations and prevent accident, assist swimmers in distress and provide emergency and routine first aid. Create a safe and positive atmosphere for all participants and perform basic facility maintenance duties.

There is potential for slip hazards when working near water and exposure to blood borne pathogens when rendering first aid. Working hours will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The Crossing Guard position is a temporary position, approximately five hours per day, two (2) hours in the morning and three (2) hours in the afternoon, Monday through Friday.  Crossing Guards work a school year (September through June).  Applicants must be able to work outdoors, have reliable transportation or ability to report to assignment consistently.

Crossing Guards work under the general direction of the Parking Operations Lead Community Service Officer with the Seal Beach Police Department.  Based on the needs of the City, a flexible schedule may be assigned for either a morning or afternoon shift or a combination thereof, or for specific week days, based on the availability of the Crossing Guards and at the discretion of the Police Services Manager.
