This Internship is offered as part of a Regional Internship Partnership to introduce and encourage new graduates to local municipal governments. The Town of Los Altos Hills hopes that internships like this will serve as a platform to connect a diverse student population with agencies that recognize their value and provide important opportunities for applicants to bring fresh ideas while gaining valuable hands-on experience in the public sector.

The Town of Los Altos Hills has five rewarding, non-benefitted summer internships to begin June 10, 2024 through August 30, 2024.

 

Job Description: 

The intern’s workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to proof reading, poster design, grassroots marketing, implementing events, organization of record management, benchmarking, photographing activities and research. The position will serve as a regular staff member and will receive assignments and work direction from the Community Services Supervisor. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a college student or recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

 

Qualifications:

• Current Undergraduate College Student or Bachelor’s degree in Community Services/Recreation or related fields
• Knowledge of principles and practices of organization and recreation
• Interest in local government
• Strong oral & written communication skills
• High level of computer skills
• Effective interpersonal skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public
• Applicable previous experience
• Self-motivated

ABOUT THE POSITION

In working with the Youth and Teen Unit individuals will have the opportunity to be a part of a team of dedicated Program leaders who are passionate about the community and inspiring youth to reach their full potential.   The City of Redwood City is providing after school program opportunities for youth at the Sandpiper Community Center in Redwood City. The City is looking for highly motivated program leaders to assist with academic support, and planning, organizing a variety enrichment activities. This position will report directly to the Recreation and Community Services Program Coordinator and will work approximately 20-28 hours per week, Monday - Friday during the school year (August 2023 to June 2024 depending on site assignment).   Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Provide academic/homework support to encourage them to do their best.
• Plan, organize and conduct recreation enrichment activities for youth.
• Encourage students to engage in a variety of health and enrichment activities and community services projects.
• Be a positive role model to participants, insuring that participants are physically and emotionally safe.
• Assist in preparing activity calendars, lessons plans that create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for participants to excel.
• Supervise participants, insuring that proper safety precautions are observed in assigned activities.

Camp Manager

Position Details:

Under general supervision, this position is assigned to perform a variety of duties to support the users of various indoor and outdoor City facilities and programs. The Recreation Specialist will oversee programs and rental activities. This includes opening and closing buildings, managing swimming pool patrons and activities, monitoring facility use including facility and guest safety during rentals, setting up tables and chairs for rentals, City programs and events, performing light janitorial and custodial duties, ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of facilities, and performing other duties as required. 

 

Examples of Duties for these positions may include:

• Overseeing operation of swimming pools or “dry” activities and rentals
• Staff lead for issues related to programs and customers
• Opening and/or closing facility
• Monitoring facility for safety, cleanliness and appropriate use
• Checking daily facility schedule and/or rental setup diagrams
• Set up and break down the facility for rentals and events

• Cleaning, sanitizing, and organizing assigned program area
• Greeting patrons and answering phone calls
• Providing patrons with information regarding programs, rentals, facility directions, schedules, site rules, policies and regulations.
• Maintain professional, courteous behavior toward co-workers, members of the public, and all other contacts in the course of work.
• Directing patron questions to the appropriate department when necessary
• Use computer for data entry, roster printing, processing registrations, memberships, rental reservation and POS system
• Providing first aid care in the event of incident and writing incident report
• Assist with miscellaneous office tasks, i.e. retrieving and distributing mail, receiving shipments, delivering items to program sites
• Set-up and operate audio, video, or other technology focused equipment for programs, uses, and events.
• Assist with activities including but not limited to sports, wellness, programs, classes and special events

• Promptly reporting facility or customer issues to supervisor
• Assist in the inventory of facility supplies and equipment.
• Performing related duties as assigned

 

Working Conditions:

Work is assigned at both indoor and outdoor facilities, and may include exposure to unsanitary conditions, odors, cleaning chemicals, and some noise. The successful candidate must be able to work variable hours, including mornings, late evenings, holidays, and weekends.

 

Physical Demands

Light to moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds); pushing; pulling; crawling; climbing; and prolonged periods of standing. Lifting above the shoulders, working off a ladder, manual dexterity, and good vision and hearing are also required.

 

Typical Qualifications

Supplemental Position Information:

Part-time temporary employees serve in an at-will capacity and understand that service with the City may be dismissed at any time. This position does not provide any benefits, apart from paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees, who on or after July 1, 2015, work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes.  Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment. Employees may use up to 40 hours (or 5 days) of accrued sick leave in each year of employment.

The City of San Mateo Police Department is looking for highly qualified, experienced Dispatchers to join our team!

 

This is a full-time DISPATCHER II LATERAL OPPORTUNITY for those EXPERIENCED in PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCH (911).  ONLY those with PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCH experience need apply. This is a continuous recruitment and applicants are added to the employment list as they meet the hiring criteria.

 

As an incentive, those hired meeting the criteria for Dispatcher II Lateral Exclusive Hiring Bonus, could be eligible for:

 

1.  A $15,000 hiring bonus over a 3-year timeline upon 1) completion of training, 2) completion of probation, and 3) 36 months of employment with the City of San Mateo Police Department; and

 

2.  40 hours of vacation time upon completion of training with proof of leave balances from prior agency

A Lateral Dispatcher II candidate must:

 

1.  Be an active law enforcement dispatcher;
2.  Possess a Basic Dispatch Certificate from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). A copy of your certificate with your application is required in order for you to continue with the process;
3.  Have at least two years of full-time experience as a California law enforcement dispatcher; and
4.  Attach a résumé to your application packet.

 

Note: Currently Dispatchers work four (4) consecutive twelve (12) hour shifts, followed by four (4) days off, followed by three (3) consecutive twelve (12) hour shifts and followed by three (3) days off. Employees work 12 hours per day and shift work is required. Work schedules will vary, and overtime maybe required.

5:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m. – Swing

The Foster City Police Department is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled individual to join our team as an Entry Level or Lateral Police Fire Dispatcher. 

Under general supervision, receives police and emergency calls and dispatches police units following prescribed procedures; answers non-emergency calls for public safety and other City departments; performs a variety of general administrative support duties including record keeping, typing, and filing; and performs related work as required. 

This journey-level non-sworn classification is responsible for independently performing the full range of receiving and dispatching emergency call duties in support of the Police Department. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Police Dispatch Supervisor in that the latter is the serves as the first level supervisor within the Dispatch Bureau. 

Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:  

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and one (1) year of experience working with radio and computer equipment in the field of law enforcement, fire, or medical dispatching. 

Licenses and Certifications:

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
• Possess a POST Dispatcher test certificate with a passing score of 55 and higher and meet updated training requirements as per POST guidelines.

Lateral dispatchers do not need to send a copy of the POST certificate but must have experience as a public safety dispatcher.

 

The City of Menlo Park currently has an excellent opportunity for experienced Communications Dispatchers. Shift work including weekends and holidays is required.

Communications Dispatchers are responsible for receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for the Police Department and City.  Responsibilities are centered on extensive contact with the public over the telephone, in both emergency and non-emergency situations to receive, transmit, and provide factual information and assistance.  All activities are performed within specified legal guidelines.  Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative.
