Under general supervision, the Community Service Officer assists Police Officers in their work, performs a variety of duties involved with enforcement of laws and ordinances and animal control, conducts crime prevention activities, and assists in dispatching, property control and other clerical support activities. Performs selected police services to the community and/or related duties as assigned.
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) provides programs and services to a multitude of culturally, economically and generationally diverse communities through the energy and efforts of Recreation Leaders. Schedules will vary seasonally and assigned work hours are subject to program needs. Hours are not guaranteed and staff may be unassigned. Recreation Leaders may secure hours in multiple program areas, subject to the approval of all supervisors. PRNS program areas include, but are not limited to:

Inspector I - $6,584.25 - $8,222.92 monthly, plus excellent benefits

The Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force (MGPTF) is the City of San José’s Youth Violence Reduction Strategy which operates within PRNS department of the City of San José. Over the past 25 years, the MGPTF has strategically worked to address issues of gang involvement among youth and young adults in an effort to reduce youth violence associated with gangs.
The City of San Jose is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Guards in the Police Department during the normal school year. Work involves providing for the safe conduct of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets and reporting problems requiring possible police action.
