THE POSITION 

Under immediate supervision (Parks Maintenance Worker I) or general supervision (Parks Maintenance Worker II), performs semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work assigned to the parks division; operates maintenance and construction tools and equipment; performs a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Parks Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or non directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Parks Maintenance Worker II: This is the full journey level class within the Maintenance Worker series. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Handle complaints and answer questions from the public.
2. Perform general electrical, painting, plumbing and carpentry work as needed.
3. Make minor adjustments on service equipment; maintain tools and equipment in working order.
4. Oversee the work of community service workers.
5. Maintain logs of daily activities.
6. Assist in other areas as needed.
7. Perform related duties as required.
8. Inspect park grounds, structures, medians and related facilities for safety, appearance, and vandalism; remove graffiti from park surfaces.
9. Clean and clear park grounds, facilities, structures and playing fields of debris and potentially dangerous conditions; set up park for special events.
10. Plant, mow, prune, and maintain turf, trees, shrubs, and plants; clear sites of weeds.
11. Perform a wide variety of semi-skilled tasks in the construction and repair of park and community facilities.
12. Install, maintain, repair, and program irrigation systems.
13. Operate grounds maintenance equipment as well as a variety of hand and power tools.
14. Apply pesticide, herbicide, and other pest management treatments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Principles and practices of maintenance and repair activities related to area of assignment.

Parks Maintenance Worker I

Education/Training:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience:

One year of experience in construction or maintenance work is desirable.

License or Certificate:

Possession of a California Class C Driver License.

Parks Maintenance Worker II

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Two years of experience in area of assignment equivalent to the Maintenance Worker I in the City of Ceres.

License or Certificate:

EXAMINATION PROCESS   Those who meet the employment qualifications and whose strengths and background most closely match the needs of the position will be contacted through the CalOpps email system and invited to an Interview Panel test.  Candidates who achieve a passing score on the Interview Panel will be certified on an Employment List, from which the top 3 scoring candidates will be referred to the hiring department for a final selection interview.

THE JOB

Responsible for the safety, supervision, discipline, and customer service of all persons using the City of Live Oak Pool facilities.  Generally, works under direct supervision of the Lifeguard Supervisor or Parks and Recreation Director.  Must be willing to work other than normal work hours and be available to work as scheduled based upon the need of the department.  Must be able to attend Pre-season training, and successfully pass a lifeguard skills review.  Must be 15 years of age or older, and wear Department of Recreation staff swimwear.  Employee may be asked to provide assistance and/or accommodations to include participants with disabilities.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

For Lifeguards and Instructors: Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate (LGT) AND a valid CPR Certificate AND First Aid for Public Safety Personnel, California Title 22. THE POSITION:     

Under the direction of the Pool Manager, the Assistant Pool Manager is responsible for assigned aquatic program areas, and acts as Pool Manager during the Pool Manager’s absence. The Assistant Manager assists in the direction and supervision of the staff and programs at the facility. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly position. Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Acts as Pool Manager in the absence of same.
• Assist with pool staff assignments and scheduling.
• Perform lifesaving practices and standards according to accepted industry standards.
• Assist with training and supervision of staff and volunteers on assigned duties.
• Meet program goals and objectives, collect and maintain relevant statistical records and data.
• Acts in capacity of pool lifeguard.
• Assist in maintaining on-site security and safety of participants, staff, and others in the pool area, preparation and maintenance of incident records.
• Assist in organization, teaching and evaluation of swim lessons and pool activities.
• Enforce City and program rules and guidelines.
• Assist Pool Manager to monitor correct completion of required paperwork.
• Attend pertinent staff meetings as required during the season.
• Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

Under direct supervision of the Pool Supervisor, The Lifeguard has the responsibility to enforce the safety standards, rules, and regulations of the City’s Pool program; to rescue swimmers in distress and administer First Aid and CPR when it is needed; This position includes ensuring the safety of all pool patrons, be alert of all activities in and around the pool while on duty and to assist with general maintenance and cleanup activities and performs related work as required.  Work is performed in a swimming facility environment, with frequent contact with City staff and the public.  Multiple Lifeguard positions are available.

SENIOR RECREATION LEADER

Part-time Position

 

Summary Description

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor/coordinator, the Senior Recreation Leader is responsible for implementing programs at a given site, including administering program curriculum and supervising program staff.  This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly wage position without City-paid benefits.  Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays.

• Implement all daily activities of a given program, including administration of program curriculum, leading program activities, monitoring and enforcing program rules and regulations, maintaining a safe environment and collecting any necessary paperwork.
• Instruct program participants in rules, model appropriate behavior, monitor strict adherence to program guidelines and enforce rules.
•      Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.
•      Responsible for appropriate use, maintenance and storage of all program supplies and equipment.
•      Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with participants, volunteers, staff and those contacted in the course of work.
•      Exhibit enthusiasm and support for the program.
•      Assist with training and directing staff and volunteers to ensure program activities are accomplished.

SWIM INSTRUCTOR/LIFEGUARD

$17.50 to $19.29 per hour

This position is not eligible for City benefits other than those mandated by Federal and State Law

1. Conduct all levels of swim instruction and water safety lessons for participants from ages six months to adult.
2. Assist in curriculum instruction planning and pre-registration program to assess participants’ ability levels.
3. Patrol and monitor aquatics facility, watch for accidents and hazards in the pool areas; enforce rules.
4. Responsible for following accepted lifesaving practices and standards including the administering of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), O2 and First Aid as needed.
5. Assist with facility operations, aquatics competitions and special events throughout the year, including setup and cleanup.
6. Assist with desk reception, telephone support and related customer service activities; accepts registrations, collect fees and process receipts on a City computer.
7. Responsible for meeting all program goals and objectives.
8. Complete accurate reports and documentation of accidents and incidents in pool and pool area.
9. Attend scheduled staff meetings.
10. Assist with routine pool cleaning and maintenance as needed.
11. Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean swimming pool environment.
12. Responsible for maintaining personal fitness sufficient to perform the required duties.
13. Perform other position-related duties designated by the Pool Manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

About the Position: 

Yuba County is currently accepting applications for the position of Building Inspector II/III. Currently we are hiring to fill at a Building Inspector III level within the Building Department and establish an eligibility list for the level II position.

The Building Inspector II position is flexibly staffed and is normally filled by advancement from the entry level Building Inspector I.  Incumbents which meet the minimum qualifications and demonstrate the ability to perform the responsibilities required at the higher performance level are promoted to the level II position. 

Building Inspector III is a stand alone position which performs complex, difficult and/or lead inspections and provides direction and technical expertise to staff.

 

Qualifications:   

Building Inspector II: Under limited supervision, this is the working level in this class series, fully qualified to independently perform diverse inspections. This is the journey level in the building inspection series

Building Inspector III: This position reports directly to the Supervising Building Official. Acts as a lead inspector providing direction and technical expertise to staff and performs related work as assigned. This is the advanced journey level in the building inspection series

Building Inspector II:

• Perform inspections, investigation, code interpretations, permit application intake, review and permit issuance, including record keeping and case management.  Also learn and apply zoning, land use, fire-safe and water quality related regulations.
• Inspect new and existing properties, and other building and construction elements for conformance to codes, regulations, plans, specifications and standards related for foundations, framing, electrical, plumbing and other structural and functional elements.
• Confer with and provide information to developers, engineers, architects, property owners and others regarding code requirements and alternative and County policies and procedures whenever possible, resolve complaints and problems, maintain close verbal and written contact regarding progress with the complainants.
• Lead inspections for non-residential commercial and industrial projects, new and existing.
• Perform above duties with limited supervision.
• Provide information to senior staff to prepare case violations for hearing; testify in court as required.

Building Inspector III (In addition to the above):

• Provide lead direction, training and work review to professional and technical staff; organize and assign work accordingly, set priorities and follow-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work; provide input into performance evaluation.
• Perform complex and difficult in nature assignments; respond to highly sensitive, complete or technical complaints; validate the nature of the complaint and recommend solutions.
• Independently perform the full range of the Building Inspector I/II duties.
• Implement new or modified policies and procedures and train/develop other staff as required.
• Make presentations to groups and coordinate public meetings.

 

**Signing Bonus Qualification Criteria:

• First Installment of $2,500, the candidate must apply, qualify for and be hired (e.g. first time appointment) by CDSA.
• Second Installment of $2,500, the recently hired employee must successfully complete six months of County service (achieving a "meets standards" or above on the six-month performance evaluation).
