Job Description: 

The intern’s workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to proof reading, poster design, grassroots marketing, implementing events, organization of record management, benchmarking, photographing activities and research. The position will serve as a regular staff member and will receive assignments and work direction from the Community Services Supervisor. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a college student or recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

Qualifications:

• Current Undergraduate College Student or Bachelor’s degree in Community Services/Recreation or related fields
• Knowledge of principles and practices of organization and recreation
• Interest in local government
• Strong oral & written communication skills
• High level of computer skills
• Effective interpersonal skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public
• Applicable previous experience
• Self-motivated

Job Description:

The Town of Los Altos Hills is recruiting a college intern to work in the Community Development Department. The intern will split time between the planning and building divisions of CDD. The role for planning will include support of both short range and long range planning.  Interns working on long range planning will work primarily as a research aide for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation.  For short range planning and the building division support interns will be focused on day to day permit activities, but may also work on other more general department duties as needed.

Examples of Duties:

• Conduct research and analysis of State Law and Fair Housing requirements for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation
• Conduct field investigations as necessary
• Prepare and conduct surveys in association with the Housing Element implementation progress and reporting
• Creating illustrative graphics, flyers and informational handouts
• Providing planning customer support at the public counter/virtual counter
• Other general Department tasks to include but not limited to: research, response to inquiries, assisting staff, filing, data entry, and record keeping

Qualifications:

• Completion of at least two (2) years and current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree or Graduate degree program with major course work in urban planning, geography, architecture, environmental studies and/or related field.

Or;

• Recent graduation from a program listed above.

Duties may include, but are not limited to town-wide capital inventory, risk management, citizens’ requests, record management, benchmarking, policy analysis and research. The position will serve as a regular staff member, and will receive assignments and work direction from the Administrative Services Director. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration or related fields, or expected college graduation in Summer 2024; completion of some course work for a master’s degree in public or business administration, political science, planning or a closely related field in desired;

Job Description:  

The intern will work in the Public Works/Engineering Department and will be assisting engineering project managers with general clerical, administrative, field work, and technical tasks for public works projects.  Tasks may include electronic document filing, checking mathematical calculations, creating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel, preparing presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint, entering data and creating reports in various software applications, performing field data collection or investigation, construction management, internet research, creating map displays using Auto CAD, Google Maps/Earth, compiling and organizing data or documents.  The intern may also assist in other areas such as internal and external Department communication and public outreach.

Qualifications:

• Ability to learn new information quickly
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and web-based resources
• Ability to prioritize assignments and utilize good organizational skills
• Exhibit a positive attitude and flexibility in accepting assignments
• Have an interest in working in public sector engineering and construction management
• CADD experience is desirable

LARPD is seeking a summer intern to support the Summer Youth Volunteer Program.  Applicants should have the equivalent of one year of college credits completed toward a degree.  Candidates interested in learning about recreation, volunteer management, and community services will be given preference.  Interested candidates should complete an application online. The intern will be responsible for key deliverables while learning about special districts and the Livermore community.

Community Outreach: Summer Youth Volunteers Project Plan 

The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience managing high school aged volunteers that will support a variety of summer camps and programs throughout the district.  

Key duties 

• Be primary point of contact for Summer Youth Volunteers. 

• Assist with volunteer orientation and ongoing training sessions throughout the summer. 

• Oversee volunteer schedule. 

• Track volunteer hours logging. 

• Create program completion documents. 

• Assist with planning end of summer recognition event. 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Maintain volunteer hour tracking and create end of summer recap report. 

• Complete summer training and check-in reports. 

• Create and distribute volunteer completion certification with hours totals for all summer volunteers. 

• Report any concerns from staff and volunteers or development opportunities for volunteers through regular check-ins. 

What learning will occur for the intern? 

• Experience managing volunteers. 

• Learn how summer programs work/run in a special district.  

• Gain familiarity with volunteer management software. 

• Graphic design creating infographics and end-of-summer reports. 

• Communication opportunities both with program staff and volunteers. 

Timing 

June-August 9th.  Interns may start and end later but need to be present for the core Sessions slated for the entire month of June, July and through August 9th.  

Work hours will be Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, 40 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.
