Village Park Preschool is a play-based preschool program offered by the City of Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department. We offer 4 programs: Lil’ Sprouts (2 year olds), Cottage Kids (3 year olds), Playschool Villagers (4 year olds), and Kinder Club (4 year olds).  The emphasis of the program is physical, social, and emotional growth in a child-centered environment. Definition: Preschool Teacher

The City of Burlingame is looking for an energetic, caring, creative, and responsible Preschool Teacher. Under direction of a Recreation Coordinator, the Preschool Teacher plans, schedules, and organizes preschool classes for the City’s Village Park Preschool program, assures policies and procedures are maintained, and performs related work as required.

Essential Duties

• Plan, organize, and implement activities that support early childhood education and socialization;
• Lead a variety of activities including, but not limited to, arts and crafts, organized games, story time, music/singing activities, science, cooking, early writing skills, and interactive circle time;
• Ensure proper safety precautions are observed;
• Maintain and care for supplies, equipment, and the facility;
• Report any supply requests and facility maintenance needs;
• Set up daily snack, change diapers and support toilet training;
• Help with preparation of monthly newsletter;
• Complete assigned paperwork, including time cards and incident and accident reports;
• Communicate regularly with parents and staff to disseminate information and build positive relationships;
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Must be a mature, dependable, responsible, and understanding person who is able to work cooperatively with children, staff and parents.   

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• Knowledge of early childhood education principles, curriculum development, and best practices.
• Completion of 24 units of Early Childhood Education.
• Teaching certification or license for early childhood education (preferred).

Under the direction of a Recreation Supervisor, the Preschool Aide supports the lead teacher in providing a nurturing and educational environment for young children. THE DEPARTMENT

The Community Development department is responsible for ensuring a sustainable and vibrant community that supports a high quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors. It includes the Building, Planning and Housing divisions, and core services include building permits, plan check, inspections, affordable housing administration and housing initiatives, as well as long-range planning and development review. The Building Division is responsible for managing the building permit, plan check and inspection processes for compliance with all applicable State laws, local municipal codes and related policies involving building construction, which requires a high level of customer service with the public and coordination within and across departments and agencies.

THE POSITION

The Building Official oversees the development of programs, projects, operations, and services of the Building Division, and is a part of the Community Development management team. This position will manage a 13-member team, including a Permit Manager, Building Permit Technicians, Plan Check Engineer, and Building Inspectors, and will receive general direction from the Assistant Community Development Director or the Community Development Director. Successful performance in this role requires professional and technical skills in the core functional areas of permitting, plan checking and building inspections, as well as knowledge of public policy and municipal services, and excellence in communication and leadership. The individual must be able to assess the current needs of the department and look for innovative ways to help the department advance to improve service delivery and meet the changing needs of the community. This will require guiding modifications to the City’s land management permitting system (Accela) to improve processes, enhance customer service and monitor data.

With the adoption of the General Plan Update in 2016 and, most recently, the Housing Element zoning-related changes, the City is expected to see physical change as plans come to fruition. A key priority for this position will be overseeing the building permit process for a diverse range of projects from tenant improvements to new single-family residential construction to hotels to large-scale, comprehensive planned mixed-use campuses. Currently, the City has approximately 775 residential units and 260,000 square feet of life science uses under construction, with over 2,000 residential units, two hotels and more than 1.8 million square feet of commercial square footage approved, but not yet under construction, along with a number of large development projects currently under review. Description

The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders for Summer 2024.  The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. Program elements include fitness, enrichment, cultural events, special events, sporting events, trips, and community events. Job Description:  

The City Manager’s Office has a full-time, 40 hours per week, non-benefited summer internship opportunity. The main function of the job is to perform municipal research and analytical work on an entry level professional basis.

The workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. THE POSITION:  The City of San Mateo’s Community Development Department has an opportunity for an intern to work on a number of projects. •    Housing Element Compliance / Certification. Support the Housing Division with implementation of Housing Element policies and programs.
•    Community Relations Commission Support. Support the Community Relations Commission, under the direction of the commission liaison, in coordinating commission meeting, preparing documents for commission review, and preparing commission documents for approval and filing with the City Clerk.

In addition, the intern may work on a variety of other projects to support Community Development Department special projects and operations, depending upon need, availability and interest.

DEFINITION

Under the general direction of the Director of Finance and Administrative Services, the Assistant Director serves as part of the management team of this municipal department and assists with planning, directing, coordinating and administering the functions of accounting, budgeting, and a wide range of support services including business licensing, payroll, utility billing, information technology and other functional areas of the Finance Department.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Responsibilities may involve direct or indirect supervision of any or all of the above functions with primary emphasis on accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, payroll, and information technology. 

The Assistant Director plays a critical role in the management of accounting functions and preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report; development of City operating and capital budgets including preparing complex financial analyses, working with contract financial consultants and actuaries, developing payroll projections and providing support to labor negotiations, developing strategies to improve workflow and service delivery, and overseeing the internal service fund financial management and cost allocation.

The Assistant Director also plays a key role in evaluation of the City’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software system, including evaluation of the current and any future system, working with Finance staff in accounting, payroll, and information technology as well as Human Resources staff to ensure efficient implementation of all aspects of the system.

In addition, the Assistant Director prepares complex reports and presentations before the City Council and the public, represents the department in various meetings, resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints, and serves as acting Director in the absence of the Director of Finance and Administrative Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:   Current principles, practices and techniques of organization, administration, supervision, training, personnel management; principles of accounting and finance, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, governmental accounting, auditing, budgeting, financial management, revenue forecasting, risk management, automated financial information systems; and advanced applications of modern office software including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Ability to:  Prepare timely and accurate accounting and financial reports; analyze accounting systems and internal control procedures; recommend and implement changes for improvement; prepare computer spreadsheets, narrative reports and presentations; effectively supervise, train and coordinate the work of subordinate personnel; set goals and objectives for the work unit and ensure that they are carried out; develop performance criteria for the work unit and use the information collected to improve efficiency and effectiveness; interact positively with co-workers; deal tactfully, effectively and cooperatively with the public, elected officials and City employees; work independently and exercise sound judgment; interpret rules, policies and procedures; analyze problems, identify alternative solutions and implement recommendations in support of organizational goals; and communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

Experience:  Six years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting, budgeting and management experience in a public agency, including four years in a supervisory capacity.

Education:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or related fields. Additional certifications (e.g. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or advanced degrees) are desirable.

License:  Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.
