Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

This Supervising Mental Health Clinician will supervise and coordinate the work of mental health professionals and interns in the East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park geographic area in San Mateo County. This position works closely with community members and community providers to develop and sustain programming that is culturally and community responsive.

This position will participate in program administration, planning and evaluation. The Supervising Mental Health Clinician supervises and guides the clinical team who provides services to seriously emotionally disturbed youth and their families, and seriously mentally ill adults. Services provided include: medication assessment and management; individual, group and family therapy; psychological assessment; case management; rehabilitation services; and crisis intervention.

Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS), provides a broad spectrum of Trauma Informed mental health and substance use services for children, youth, families, adults and older adults. We provide behavioral health in diverse settings including community outpatient clinics, field-based settings such as homeless encampments and shelters, and through a network of community agencies and independent providers who offer outpatient services, residential treatment, rehabilitation and other services for adults. BHRS Adult and Older Adult Services serves residents of San Mateo County age 18 years and older with severe functional impairments due to a serious mental illness and/or multiple co-occurring substance use, medical, and/or developmental disorders. The Adult Psychiatric Social Worker/Marriage Family Therapists are integral members of a multidisciplinary team, providing a broad range of psychosocial interventions with the goal of improving the quality of life of the client.

The ideal candidates will possess:

• Skills in assessment, diagnostic, and evaluation techniques.
• Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed care principles, techniques and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, clinical case management, crisis management and various treatment modalities (e.g. evidence-based practices).
• Experience providing treatment for adults with serious mental illness.
• Experience delivering services to adult consumers who have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
• Experience delivering services in diverse populations for adults and older adults. In a variety of settings (e.g. outpatient clinics, homeless encampments, shelters and correctional settings).
• Comprehensive and timely documentation skills (e.g. progress notes, assessments, client care plans, etc.).
• Demonstrated expertise, skill and interest in working with a broad range of clients of diverse cultures and backgrounds, such as Latino, Pacific Islander, African American, and LGBTQ, and an ability to provide culturally appropriate and proficient services.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with families, co-workers, other professionals, collaborative partners and the public.
• Extensive knowledge of available community resources within the County of San Mateo and its neighboring counties.
• Experience using electronic health/medical record systems (e.g. AVATAR, SOARIAN, Epic).

Example of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform initial diagnostic evaluation noting behavioral symptoms which may indicate a psychiatric or co-occurring disorder and interpersonal or family dysfunction.
• Perform risk assessments.
• Determine and develop appropriate treatment plans for all clients in the caseload.
• Provide individual, group and family therapy, care coordination, case management, rehabilitation, and crisis intervention as appropriate.
• Participate in developing individual and group treatment plans utilizing a variety of psychotherapeutic, psychosocial and psycho educational modalities.
• Conduct home visits and/or field-based services. Crisis Intervention. Make client referrals and plan discharge procedures.
• Assess progress of clients on a selected basis and propose modifications to rehabilitation plans in order to meet goals agreed upon by the clients/patients.
• Prepare and maintain psychosocial case histories for use in diagnostic evaluations and of patient progress.
• Supervise doctoral interns, masters level student interns and trainees.
• Provide outreach, engagement and refer clients to appropriate mental health program service resources.
• Collect and evaluate psychiatric information such as case histories, behavior patterns and family relationships.
• Analyze factors which exert an adverse effect upon health problems, treatment, or recovery, or which may contribute to or are responsible for mental illness or affect the potential for rehabilitation.
• Conduct treatment groups in schools and other community settings with emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children toward the goal of achieving higher functioning in interpersonal relationships and learning.
• Work as a psychiatric team member with other treatment disciplines.
• Utilize Trauma Informed Care and other Evidence-based practices.
• Provide consultation and education services. Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and responding to after-hours calls for Crisis and Outreach and HEAL. Perform related duties as assigned.
