THE POSITION

The City is currently seeking General Maintenance Workers. This temporary position works with the City’s maintenance staff to perform: unskilled labor in the parks and landscape medians, street and sidewalk maintenance, street sign maintenance, and building maintenance. Duties include, but are not limited to: raking, emptying trash cans and litter removal, irrigation repair, weeding, edging, street sign maintenance and graffiti removal. Work is closely supervised; work methods are explained in specific terms and work is subject to frequent review. 

Incumbents must possess the physical and mental capacity to work under the conditions described in this document and to perform the duties required by their assigned position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in landscaping, street and sidewalk maintenance, and building maintenance, as well as safety practices and precautions to be used in work.
• Skill in operating hand and power tool equipment such as rakes, pick and shovel, etc.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and to follow oral and written instructions. Intermittently, sit while studying or listening to training; bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist when performing maintenance, repair, or installation tasks; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; and lift or carry heavy weights up to 90 lbs.; work in conditions of various outdoor exposure.
• Capable of working independently.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Driving a city truck is required for the position and the applicant must have an acceptable driving record, subject to California DMV pull records.
• Ability to work Saturday and/or Sunday shifts.  Hours are 7AM-4:30PM and may fluctuate due to operational needs.

THE POSITION:  The City of San Mateo’s Community Development Department has an opportunity for an intern to work on a number of projects. The Department, which has about 55 full time employees, includes the Building, Housing, Planning, Code Enforcement, & Business/Admin Divisions. The Management Analyst Intern will primarily support the Housing and Business/Admin Divisions and receive primary supervision from the Department’s Business Manager and Housing Manager, and project specific direction from the supervisor/manager primarily responsible for each specific project. The duration and start date of the internship are flexible, though summer interns typically start between mid-May and Mid-June. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
•    BA/BS or Masters Candidate 
•    Strong analytical, writing and verbal skills; effective written and oral communication
•    Experience conducting research and data analyses
•    Able to work independently with direction from supervisor
•    Interest in learning more about a career in local government

DUTIES: The primary projects will most likely include the following: 
•    Market Research / Data Analysis. Support the research and help prepare findings report on fee schedules across multiple jurisdictions to help the Business Manager prepare for the 2025 comprehensive fee study. 
•    Contracts / Grant Administration. Support the Housing Division Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Permanent Local Housing Allocation (PLHA) administration of contracts and grant funds for nonprofit recipients.
•    Housing Element Compliance / Certification. Support the Housing Division with implementation of Housing Element policies and programs.
•    Community Relations Commission Support. Support the Community Relations Commission, under the direction of the commission liaison, in coordinating commission meeting, preparing documents for commission review, and preparing commission documents for approval and filing with the City Clerk.

In addition, the intern may work on a variety of other projects to support Community Development Department special projects and operations, depending upon need, availability and interest.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. You'll operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repair.

Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school, and one (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license, and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds and be able to perform sustained heavy physical labor. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on off-hour shifts in emergency situations.

California Education Code Section 10911.5 requires that all public recreation program employers must fingerprint all persons having direct contact with a minor. The City does not hire persons who have been convicted of felony drug, sexual assault or physical assault crimes.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Seasonal Maintenance Worker position performs a variety of entry-level and unskilled labor, maintenance and repair tasks in various public works operations, such as park maintenance, landscape maintenance, creek and catch basin maintenance, street maintenance, and janitorial and facility maintenance.

Typically, work hours are scheduled between Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Some hours may be adjusted for special events in evening or on weekends; up to 29 hours per week.

This is a part-time, temporary position with limited duration.

EXAMPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform preparatory work for maintenance activities – gathering equipment, materials and supplies, loading and unloading, and laying out materials and equipment for projects
• Perform a variety of routine physical labor tasks, depending upon area of assignment, such as posting general notices, pulling weeds, picking up litter, raking leaves and debris, planting, miscellaneous painting, replacing light bulbs, emptying trash bins, cleaning park bathroom daily and other minor custodial work
• Perform cleanup at the end of the day or when job is completed, including picking up tools and clearing work areas of spills and debris
• Operate power tools such as power washer, leaf blower and weed eater, as well as basic hand tools such as brooms, shovels, rakes and hoes
• Assist with daily and weekly trash pick-up on park grounds and Town trash receptacles
• Assist with other maintenance duties as assigned

The City of Berkeley is seeking a Housing Development Specialist (Community Development Project Coordinator)! In this role you will have the opportunity to be part of the team responsible for implementing the City’s Housing Trust Fund and Small Sites Programs. This position will work on renovations and new construction projects, the latter of which will include developments at the North Berkeley and Ashby BART sites. Lead and/or supervisory experience is desirable.

A master's degree in a related program is desirable and can be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

LARPD is seeking a summer intern to support the Community Outreach Department.  Applicants should have the equivalent of one year of college credits completed toward a degree.  Candidates interested in learning about communications, content creation, and social media with a government agency will be given preference.  Interested candidates should complete an application online. The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience capturing and creating content, assisting throughout the district.  

Key duties 

• Visit Summer Programs to Capture Video and Photo content 

• Draft Program Highlight and Promotional Social Posts 

• Edit Community Facing District-Wide Videos 

• Assist with District-Wide Communications including Email Newsletters, Website, and social media. 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Create two to three 30 second videos highlighting LARPD’s impact on the community. 

• Update District Parks and Facilities Guide for Website  

• Capturing photo/video content from summer programs 

What learning will occur for the intern? 

• Learn to effectively communicate the LARPD brand identity across various channels, including social media, website, and content creation, by maintaining consistency in voice, tone, and messaging. 

• Gain hands-on experience in managing social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, YouTube, Instagram) by creating engaging content, scheduling posts, monitoring audience engagement, and analyzing performance metrics to optimize strategies. 

• Learn website management by assisting with content updates, uploading new information, ensuring website functionality, and implementing best practices to enhance online visibility and user experience. 

• Develop skills in content creation, including writing engaging copy, designing visuals, and creating multimedia content such as videos, graphics, and infographics to convey key messages and engage the target audience. 

• Gain proficiency in video editing software to assist in creating and editing promotional videos, event highlights, and educational content for various communication channels, while adhering to branding guidelines and storytelling principles. 

Timing 

June-August 9th.  Interns may start and end later but need to be present for the core Sessions slated for the entire month of June, July and through August 9th.  

Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 25-30 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.

DEFINITION

Under limited direction, the Housing and Economic Development Manager directs and administers the division to which they are assigned. More specifically, the Housing and Economic Development and Housing Manager develops, coordinates, and implements the City’s housing and economic development programs and related activities; initiates key long range planning activities based on the City’s General Plan, Housing Element, Belmont Village Specific Plan, Economic Development Strategic Plan, and regional initiatives; provides housing and economic data to inform key policy decisionmakers; develops and implements marketing, branding and outreach activities for business engagement; and performs related duties as assigned. 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS 

The Housing and Economic Development Manager functions as manager over the Citywide area of practice to which they are assigned, i.e., housing/economic development activities and provides technical expertise to other City departments and related agencies. The Housing and Economic Development Manager is distinguished from the next lower classification of either Management Analyst I/II in that the former is a division level manager, with vast programmatic responsibilities, expected to function with limited supervision.
