The City of Sunnyvale is accepting applications for a Human Resources Analyst to work within the Risk Management Division of the Human Resources Department. This position is responsible assisting with the development, coordination and administration of the City's Workers' Compensation Program including facilitating claims investigations and serving as the liaison between the City, injured worker and third-party administrator in workers' compensation related issues.

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

Hours: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Varying shifts are available including Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Work assignments are performed in collaboration with various divisions and levels of staff, independently, with responsibility for following through on development. Contacts are regularly made both internally and externally at all levels of the organization involving tact, discretion, good listening and customer service skills. The position requires creative ability, knowledge of how to generate graphics using The Adobe Suite, Canva, Microsoft Publisher, Word and Excel and the ability to exercise a reasonable degree of independent judgment. This classification assists with development and implementation of standards for consistency in materials, written and posted on the internet. Additionally, the position requires good written communication skills, public relations, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills and abilities. The Marketing Associate receives direction from program supervisors and management staff.

Essential Job Functions

• Design and produce effective collateral for digital and print to promote programs, events and services
• Design and produce graphics materials using computer-based and traditional methods to meet organizational standards and deadlines

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position is required to work on the Community Center campus and may not work from home. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination when using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision when reading and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, push and pull files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required. The Office of Retirement Services (ORS) oversees the investment of assets and administers the benefits of the two Defined Benefit Retirement Plans for the City of San Jose Employees. One plan is for the sworn police and fire employees called the Police and Fire Department Retirement Plan. The other plan is for all other eligible City employees called Federated City Employees' Retirement System. The assets of the two plans total over $8.0 billion. As of June 30, 2023, there were close to 7,200 retirees and beneficiaries, and close to 5,750 active employees in the two retirement plans. Each of the retirement plans has a Board of Administration that has fiduciary responsibility over their respective retirement plan. The ORS staff has accountability to them as well as City Administration. ORS has a total of about 43 positions spread among five different work groups within the department: Investments, Benefits, Accounting, Information Technology, and Administration. ORS utilizes the City's Financial Management System for all general ledger activities. In addition, ORS has its own pension administration system called Pension Gold that holds all pension/contribution information for active members and retirees and is used in almost all of the functions for the Benefits Group staff.

The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate's qualifications and experience. The annual salary range for this position is: $108,959.76- $132,765.36

Retirement Services is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Analyst position in the Benefits Division. The position will be responsible for the administration of retirement benefits for active and retired members of two retirement plans and ten retirement tiers.

Successful candidates will have strong interpersonal and analytical skills and a keen interest in providing quality services for our members. Reporting to the Benefits Division Manager, the position is responsible for the following key duties:

• Lead and supervise a team of up to five staff.

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced Aquatics Programs Specialist who is well versed with the development and effective implementation of aquatic programs tailored to different age groups and skill levels, such as swimming lessons, water aerobics, lifeguard training, and more. The Specialist will work out of the George M Silliman Community Activity Center. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Review the existing swim lesson program provided at the Aquatic Center, utilizing the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program materials, with the aim of pinpointing areas that could be enhanced.
2. Evaluate the current swim instructor handbook and offer recommendations that align with program requirements; integrating relevant materials from the American Red Cross Swim Lesson Program and feedback from staff to create a more cohesive handbook for swim instructors.
3. Assess the current swim instructor in-service practices and propose a recommended training plan and schedule for management and staff. This includes organizing 2-5 in-service sessions with staff to review new information and establish a structured training plan.                                                                                  

• Evaluate Current Practices: Conduct an analysis of the existing swim instructor in-service practices, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
• Needs Assessment: Determine the specific needs of the swim instructors and the program as a whole. Consider instructor feedback, observations, and any deficiencies noted in performance evaluations.
• Training Objectives: Define clear training objectives that align with the goals of the swim lesson program and the organization's standards. These objectives should address areas such as instructional techniques, safety protocols, emergency procedures, and customer service skills.
• Curriculum Development: Develop a comprehensive curriculum for the in-service training sessions. Incorporate relevant materials from the American Red Cross Swim Lesson Program, focusing on best practices for instruction and program management.
• Training Plan and Schedule: Create a detailed training plan and recommended schedule that outlines the topics to be covered in each session. Ensure that the schedule accommodates the availability of staff and allows for adequate time to cover each topic thoroughly.
• Session Content: Structure each in-service session to include a combination of theoretical instruction, practical demonstrations, and hands-on activities. Provide opportunities for staff to ask questions, participate in discussions, and practice new skills.
• Resource Materials: Compile a set of resource materials to support the training sessions, including instructional guides, lesson plans, videos, and reference materials from the American Red Cross Swim Lesson Program.
• Feedback Mechanism: Establish a feedback mechanism to gather input from staff following each training session. Use this feedback to assess the effectiveness of the training and make any necessary adjustments to future sessions.
• Implementation and Monitoring: Implement the training plan according to the established schedule, ensuring that all staff members have the opportunity to participate. Work with staff to ensure they are monitoring staff performance and progress throughout the training process, providing additional support and guidance as needed.
• Evaluation and Continuous Improvement: Conduct a final evaluation of the training program to assess its overall effectiveness and impact on staff performance. Use the findings to inform staff of training initiatives and make continuous improvements to the swim instructor’s in-service practices.                        

     4. Collaborate with program staff to facilitate the implementation of the DigiQuatics software, specifically  focusing on the swim lesson program module to ensure its success and staff training opportunities.

    5. Support staff in addressing any needs within the swim lesson program to enhance its effectiveness and boost participant enrollment as required.

SUMMARY

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the advanced journey-level classification in the Lifeguard classification series responsible for providing lead direction and training to lower-level staff and for ensuring that the District’s aquatics facilities are maintained in a safe and effective working condition.  Incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver services.  Work is reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.  This classification is distinguished from the Lifeguard II by the assignment of more complex tasks requiring a greater level of technical and specialized knowledge and a higher degree of independent judgment, including serving in a lead capacity over lower level staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Plans, leads, assigns, directs, and participates in the work of staff responsible for performing lifeguard duties at the District’s aquatics facilities; assigns lifeguard staff to daily rotation schedules, ensuring proper coverage at all times.

7. Monitors facility use; ensures that the facility is opened, closed, and secured in compliance with District practices and procedures and that the pool and restrooms are maintained in a safe, neat, and clean condition.
8. Inspects and maintains swimming and pool equipment for functionality; ensures proper placement and availability in the pool area; recommends maintenance and repair as needed.
9. Maintains records of participation and completes required reports.
10. Assists with District special events as needed.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED;

AND

• Two years of relevant aquatics experience serving in an aquatics facility.

• Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is primarily performed within a public swimming pool environment, where stamina is needed to perform moderate to heavy lifting of pool equipment and furniture or children and adults who may require removal from the pool, and to stay in the pool for prolonged periods.  Must possess the mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, push and pull materials and equipment, and swim while wearing an appropriate uniform with protective equipment.  Vision and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions and/or situations.  Must also possess:  the mobility to work in an office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or by using a telephone and radio.  Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or to operate safety equipment.  Must possess the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work outdoors in a pool environment with wet and slippery conditions, and are exposed to variable weather conditions; may be exposed to chlorine, acids, and other chemicals at aquatics facilities, as well as blood and body fluids while rendering first aid and CPR.  Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Recreation Activity Leader in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will organize, coordinate and lead a wide variety of indoor and outdoor recreation activities at City parks, playgrounds and recreation centers.

2) Completion of major college coursework leading to a degree in recreation, physical education, group work or a closely related field may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis;
OR
3) Extensive training and/or experience in a specialized field of endeavor such as dance, ceramics, photography or nature study which has occurred over a period of several years and has resulted in an acceptable level of expertise and the ability to impart knowledge of this field to others.

Under general supervision of the Program Coordinator, staff is responsible for planning and implementing daily age-appropriate activities including crafts, games, songs, drama, storytelling, and supervised play.

Under the general supervision of the Program Director, we are seeking professional, passionate, and energetic individuals who can successfully manage a preschool classroom, develop lesson plans, and effectively promote the emotional, physical, mental, and social wellbeing in a classroom environment.  This is a classroom position, not an administrative/office position
