Wastewater Collections Operator II/III

Wastewater Collections Operator will work under close supervision while performing basic inspection and maintenance of mechanical and hydraulic equipment (and components) in the operation of a Wastewater Treatment Plant, Lift Stations and the Wastewater/Stormwater Collection System. The Operator performs a variety of advanced tasks in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Lift Stations and Wastewater/Stormwater Collection system for the City of Marysville's Wastewater Collections Division.
SALARY RANGE:
Wastewater Operator II – $3,487.63 to $4,577.51 - monthly
Wastewater Operator III - $3,954.74 to $5,190.60 - monthly
WORK SCHEDULE:
8 hour shifts; services in emergency standby capacity; provides customer service and performs all aspects of collection system maintenance and repair during after-hours periods including holidays and weekends.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- City policies and procedures;
- Tools and equipment used in the operation, repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant and wastewater or stormwater collection systems;
- State and Federal laws and regulations governing wastewater plant and wastewater/stormwater collection system operations;
- California Department of Environmental Quality, American Water Works Association, Environmental Protection Agency, Marysville City Code, Occupational Safety and Health Administration laws, rules, and requirements governing the management of wastewater systems;
- Safe work practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions in a utility systems; and,
- Techniques for use and storage of chemicals, including OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
SKILLS IN:
- Following standardized methods and procedures, and verbal and written instructions;
- Performing basic wastewater systems maintenance activities;
- Identifying unsafe conditions and mechanical problems;
- Reading and understanding manufacturer's manuals and equipment specifications;
- Operating heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner;
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software;
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing;
- Using and maintaining tools and equipment to perform maintenance and repair work;
- Making routine operating adjustments and repairs to equipment;
- Following safe work practices;
- Inspecting and monitor machinery and equipment to very compliance with prescribed operating conditions and safety standards; and,
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
EXPERIENCE:
The candidate's level of experience will determine the placement at level II (4 yrs) or level III (6 yrs).
Wastewater Treatment with Wastewater Collections System experience (Preferred).
Collection System Operations, Repair and Maintenance: 4 years (Required).
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES:
Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent;
Experience: Four (4) years of wastewater experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License: Valid California State Driver's license is required. A Wastewater Treatment Plant or Wastewater Collection System Operator's Grade 2 Certification from California State Water Resources Control Board or Collections System Maintenance Certification is required and/or within one year of appointment. A valid California State Commercials driver's License Class A or B is required within six months of hire. Additional technical training and certification maybe required, including Federal Emergency Management Agency training.
