DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Office of Mayor Sam Liccardo is seeking a highly qualified professional to serve as a member of the Mayor's Policy Team, working on several priority initiatives, making recommendations and developing action plans for meeting the Mayor's policy objectives. This position will focus on policy areas of land use and economic development. The focus of this position is to provide technical expertise and advice in the area of land use. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of urban planning and understand the 2040 General Plan for the City of San José. This position will: * Develop and maintain positive working relationships with City Council offices, City Development Services Team, corporate and development community, and neighborhood associations * Support Council Committee meetings, including:
* Community & Economic Development Council Committee * Ad Hoc Committee on Development Services Meetings: Process Improvements * Meetings for the planning of Diridon Station Area, namely the following committees: Diridon Station Area Plan, Diridon Integrated Station Concept, Station Area Advisory Group * Airport Commission * Planning Director's Hearing * Planning Commission Meetings * Developer Roundtable Meetings * North San José Roundtable Meetings * Urban Village Advisory Group Meetings * Business Appreciation Visits
* Attend and represent the Mayor at City-related meetings and activities * Draft routine to complex correspondence, memoranda, and reports which articulate the Mayor's land use and economic policy initiatives * Conduct public meetings and events on behalf of the elected official and/or prepare summaries of public and private meetings, reports, memoranda and other documents for review by senior staff and the Mayor * Prepare or assist in preparation of speeches and talking points for the Mayor * Provide support in community engagement efforts with neighborhood, district or city-wide business or community groups or associations and other interested parties regarding community concerns, issues, and priorities * Other duties as assigned
