The City of Sunnyvale’s Department of Public Works is recruiting for two Senior Maintenance Worker positions within the Street Operations division. One Senior Maintenance Worker position will be assigned to the pavement team responsible for maintenance, repair, sweeping and cleaning of City streets, curbs, gutters, and similar right-of-way infrastructure. One Senior Maintenance Worker position will be assigned to the traffic markings and signs team responsible for a variety of tasks involving installing and maintaining traffic signs, painting pavement markings and striping, and repairing concrete sidewalk for the city. This classification reports to a Public Works Supervisor and receives assignments related to the above-mentioned maintenance tasks.

The City of Santa Clara is recruiting for the Electric Utility Chief Operating Officer for its Electric Utility, Silicon Valley Power (SVP).  Reporting to the Chief Electric Utility Officer (CEUO), the Electric Utility Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a senior management position in the City's unclassified service responsible for the oversight and direction for the fiscal, administrative, and managerial operations of the utility. The COO has supervisory and support responsibilities for the utility's divisions: Utility Operations, Customer Development and Project Management, Resource Planning and Customer Engagement, and Business Services. The COO will help guide SVP through the extraordinary period of growth related by doubling the existing capacity of the electrical system to meet new customer demands over the next 10 years. In addition to the expansion, the COO will work to ensure new renewable resources are added to meet the City's and State’s climate goals. The COO is responsible for forecasting service requirements and for planning, organizing and directing assigned resources of the electric utility division in order to meet those requirements. The San José Fire Department is recruiting to fill (3) three Hazardous Materials Inspector II positions in the Bureau of Fire Prevention Division. The Hazardous Materials Inspector II’s may be assigned to Hazardous Materials Development Services group to perform plan reviews and inspections, or to Hazardous Materials Code Enforcement group to conduct detailed field inspections at facilities storing, handling, or using hazardous materials including highly hazardous materials unique to Silicon Valley. Both group activities do cross over, as required for back up and special demands and for cross training, as needed.

 

The Hazardous Materials II inspector inspects, reviews, and enforces commercial and industrial facilities for compliance with the San Jose Fire Code, California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) regulations, CSFM adopted sections of the California Building Code Series, San Jose Hazardous Materials Storage Permit Ordinance, S and applicable National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) nationally recognized standards.

 

Duties for this position include, but may not be limited to:

 

• Providing technical assistance to facilities, consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, department officers/staff and the Fire Marshal on the application and/or interpretation of fire safety codes/regulations and on resolution of fire safety and hazardous materials issues identified in the design, construction or operations of buildings and integrated systems;

• Reviewing and analyze hazardous materials inventory statements for chemical classification;

• Reviewing and analyze hazardous materials business plans, construction documents, monitoring and treatment system plans for compliance with codes and regulations;

• Inspect commercial and industrial facilities and construction sites including reviewing facility maintenance records and document finding in inspections reports.

• Conducting enforcement as necessary including preparing citations and other administrative orders, conducting compliance meetings,

• Preparing enforcement cases for the City Attorney and District Attorney including the preparation of analytical data, reports, assisting in interpreting laws and regulations and providing court testimony, as required;

• Responding to complaint investigations for alleged violations of the aforementioned codes and standards.

• Assisting outside agencies and other City Departments including, Code Enforcement, Building Department, Planning Department, Public Works, and Environmental Services-Wastewater Pretreatment.

• Conduct public record request record searches

• Participate in the review of plans submitted for development projects for verification of code compliance with municipal codes.   

• Provide written plan review comments to development project applicants identifying discrepancies identified after compliance reviews.

• Conduct Hazardous Materials system installation and closure inspections for code compliance verification.

Salary

The Airport Department is currently recruiting to fill a Maintenance Worker II vacancy within the Maintenance Services Section. The Airport Maintenance Services Section is responsible for the maintenance, repair and improvements to Airport building facilities and properties on a seven day a week, twenty-four hour a day operation schedule. Mineta San José International Airport is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Assistant.

The Maintenance Assistant position is responsible for raking leaves and debris, digging post holes, trimming hedges and trees, as well as cleaning large areas that contain debris, weeds, abandoned materials, catch basins and gutters. The Maintenance Assistant will also be required to safely operate pressure washers, scrubbers, sweepers, pick-up trucks, as well as tractors with flail mower attachments. Other responsibilities include assisting with forming, pouring and finishing of new concrete surfaces, and working on landscape projects near roadways, which may involve proper set-up of roadway markings and traffic control. In addition, this position will be responsible for planting ground covers, flowers, plants and trees, using a variety of soil amendments and fertilizers. The use of power hand tools for the maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures, doors, roofs, sanitary sewer line cleaning, changing lamps, emptying trash and picking up trash/debris in assigned areas will also be required.

Other duties may include:

- Digs holes, trenches, and ditches using picks, shovels, jack hammers, spades, cultivating forks, post hole diggers and other tools; loads, unloads, shovels, and rakes sand, gravel, dirt, fertilizer, loam, asphalt, and other materials.

- Participates in the repair of sewer lines, checking of sanitary sewers, laying of sewer pipes, and installation of sewer connections.

- Performs labor in the planting, cultivating, trimming, removing, watering, and spraying of lawns, plants and other vegetation.

- Mows and trims lawns, rakes leaves, hoes weeds, clears paths and trails, empties trash containers, cleans equipment, structures, and facilities, such as courts, swimming pools, park grounds, restrooms and work areas.

- Performs labor in the erecting of tree supports

- Sets up cones and barricades for traffic and safety control, may perform as a flag person.

- Lifts heavy weights.

- Operates small dump trucks, light flatbed trucks, portable cement mixers, small sweepers and other equipment.

- Uses tools such as air spades, tampers, picks, shovels, hoes, rakes, pruning shears, rototillers, trimmers, shears, edgers, loppers, pruners and other items.

- Uses general carpentry, mechanical and hand tools, such as saws, drills, wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, ladders and other tools.

- Is responsible for safe operation of equipment and tools.

THE POSITION
Under the general supervision of the Campbell Community Center Supervisor, the Building Attendant oversees proper use and rental activity at the City of Campbell Community Center and other City facilities. The Building Attendant assignments include working special events at various City facilities. The Building Attendant performs basic custodial duties (moving tables, chairs, set-up AV equipment, set-up athletic equipment, moping, sweeping, empty trashcans, etc.), ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of the facilities. The Building Attendant work schedule is primarily during the late afternoon/evening hours Monday - Friday, and on weekdays (both day/evening shifts). Occasional week-day shifts may be available.

Salary Range: $15.50 to $18.00 per hour DOQ

Schedule:  Approximately 8-20 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours

Responsibilities: 

• Provides customer service to community center renters, class instructors and the general public at the Campbell Community Center;

The department is seeking to fill two (2) full-time Power Resources Specialist I/II positions. The positions will support the Risk Management, Contracts and Administrative Services Division (1 position) and Account Management and Marketing Division (1 position).

Power Resources Specialist I/II – Risk Management, Contracts and Administrative Services Division 

This position will report to the Division Manager and support risk management and power contract oversight.  Under general supervision this position will support a variety of risk management functions in support of the department’s energy portfolio. The Risk Management, Contracts and Administrative Services Division is responsible for providing independent oversight of the risks assumed in the course of transacting for energy products and services as well as ensuring compliance with adopted risk management policies and procedures.  This unit also provides strategic support to facilitate the development and execution of various non-energy contracts, tracks signed energy contracts, and manages the invoicing process.

Duties include the following but are not limited to:

• Verifying that power supply agreements are authorized and executed appropriately and resolving contracting issues; 
• Developing mark-to-market analysis for SJCE power supply portfolio totaling over $1 Billion dollars; and recommending actions to reduce risk and power supply costs.
• Overseeing power supply settlement functions, including verifying power supply deliveries, contract performance, and approval of power supply invoices, totaling approximately $30 million per month;
• Reviewing invoices for accuracy, resolving issues with power suppliers, and providing quality assurance for complex energy-specific contracts;
• Providing analytical support for power supply audits and analysis of power purchases and sale agreements;
• Provide risk management analysis for medium- and long-term contracts;
• Utilize energy trading risk management database to prepare a variety of reports for the power contracts portfolio, utilize data visualization
• Approve energy purchases subject to the risk management policies;
• Provide analysis on emerging technological and procurement options for supply (e.g. distributed energy resources, renewable or storage technologies.)
• Conduct studies and develop analytical models related to energy risk management and forecasting;

Power Resources Specialist I/II - Account Management and Marketing Division

This position will report to the Deputy Director overseeing the Account Management and Marketing. This division is responsible for customer care, billing, marketing and customer outreach, and community programs for San José Clean Energy. This position will support a number of analytical functions related to customer rates and electricity usage.  The ideal candidates should be well versed in PG&E rate structures including residential and commercial rate schedules and have strong analytical skills.

Duties include the following but are not limited to:

• Analyze customer electricity usage and impact of rate changes;
• Analyze revenue collection compared with plan;
• Support division with analysis of financial and greenhouse gas emission impacts of decisions on new product offerings.
• Respond to customer inquiries and interface with and support call center and billing operations contractor;
• Support cost-benefit analysis of potential new Department programs;
• Assist in launch of SJCE’s DAC-GT and energy efficiency programs, in accordance with SJCE’s Programs Roadmap, while incorporating stakeholder input, industry best practices, and market trends to ensure program success;
• Help develop indicators to measure program effectiveness, analyze program outcomes to modify implementation activities, and develop and implement verification protocols to support cost and environmental effectiveness claims;
• Assist with program compliance requirements and reporting;
• Provide financial analysis on impact of alternative contract structures with customers
• Provide quantitative analysis support for City Council and Community Advisory Commission presentations.
• Help develop tools and processes to analyze the potential impact of alternative rate structures (e.g. new time of use variants, low income discounts, etc.)
• Help articulate and implement a strategy for more fully incorporating Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), including Demand Response programs, into SJCE’s business activities.
• Assist in preparation of bids and specifications, and monitoring the timely fulfillment of deliverables by consultants and service providers; Perform other related duties as required.

Salary Information:

The current salary range for Power Resources Specialist I is: $82,867.20 - $100,963.20

The current salary range for Power Resources Specialist II is: $90,168.00 - $109,844.80

The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Power Resources Specialist I/II classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.
