ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for a full-time Environmental Programs Manager in our Public Works Department. In this exciting opportunity the Environmental Programs Manager (EPM) will be at the forefront of shaping and implementing environmental initiatives that have a lasting impact on our community.  The EPM will work under the supervision of the Public Works Director and will oversee a comprehensive environmental protection program and ensure compliance in the areas of solid waste, waste reduction, recycling, green waste, municipal stormwater system, and energy and natural resources conservation. The Environmental Programs Manager is poised to make significant contributions to a variety of environmental programs that require management, coordination, and compliance. This position is an exempt, mid-management level position that must exercise competent discretion and judgement in the performance of duties and interactions with others. This position will be included with the Gilroy Management Association employee group.

The Position:
Community Service Officer I
The Community Service Officer I is an entry-level position assigned to the Field Operations Division of the Police Department. The successful incumbent will provide support to sworn Police Officers and departmental operations.
 
Community Service Officer II
The Community Service Officer II is a journey level position which provides a broader range of responsibility and requires a higher level of experience and training. The successful incumbent will provide support to sworn Police Officers and departmental operations and has the ability to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative.

The annual salary range for Community Service Officer I is $81,316.32 - $104,154.48. The annual salary range for Community Service Officer II is $92,026.68 - $117,321.24. This position will be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range.

The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for one Environmental Engineering Coordinator - Solid Waste position for the Environmental Services Department. The department provides comprehensive and innovative utility services for Sunnyvale's residents and businesses and facilitates initiatives to achieve the City's sustainability objectives. The department brings together technical, operational, and administrative professional disciplines to form its dedicated and dynamic team. 

For the Solid Waste Division, we are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and creative individual with strong quantitative and analytical skills, impeccable written and verbal communication skills, and a solid understanding of environmental science and policies to manage Sunnyvale’s closed landfill.

This position works with environmental consultants and contractors, a diverse team of City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant operations and maintenance staff, and regulators including the Water Board, CalRecycle and the Air District to ensure closed landfills and compliance with solid waste, air and water quality regulations.

We are looking for an ideal candidate who can ensures compliance with applicable Permit requirements; reviews, analyzes, and interprets operational and monitoring data; and prepares technical memoranda and reports; has experience with designing, implementing, and maintaining solutions related to various aspects of postclosure maintenance of the landfill and performs related work as required.

Candidate’s experience in reviewing plans and specifications of public and private projects proposed on or near the landfill for potential impacts, informing developers/designers of impacts of landfill-related regulations and proposes necessary changes to projects is highly desirable.

About the Position: 

Yuba County is currently accepting applications for the position of Building Inspector II/III. Currently we are hiring to fill at a Building Inspector III level within the Building Department and establish an eligibility list for the level II position.

The Building Inspector II position is flexibly staffed and is normally filled by advancement from the entry level Building Inspector I.  Incumbents which meet the minimum qualifications and demonstrate the ability to perform the responsibilities required at the higher performance level are promoted to the level II position. 

Building Inspector III is a stand alone position which performs complex, difficult and/or lead inspections and provides direction and technical expertise to staff.

Qualifications:   

Building Inspector II: Under limited supervision, this is the working level in this class series, fully qualified to independently perform diverse inspections. This is the journey level in the building inspection series

Building Inspector III: This position reports directly to the Supervising Building Official. Acts as a lead inspector providing direction and technical expertise to staff and performs related work as assigned. This is the advanced journey level in the building inspection series

Building Inspector II:

• Perform inspections, investigation, code interpretations, permit application intake, review and permit issuance, including record keeping and case management.  Also learn and apply zoning, land use, fire-safe and water quality related regulations.
• Inspect new and existing properties, and other building and construction elements for conformance to codes, regulations, plans, specifications and standards related for foundations, framing, electrical, plumbing and other structural and functional elements.
• Confer with and provide information to developers, engineers, architects, property owners and others regarding code requirements and alternative and County policies and procedures whenever possible, resolve complaints and problems, maintain close verbal and written contact regarding progress with the complainants.
• Lead inspections for non-residential commercial and industrial projects, new and existing.
• Perform above duties with limited supervision.
• Provide information to senior staff to prepare case violations for hearing; testify in court as required.

Building Inspector III (In addition to the above):

• Provide lead direction, training and work review to professional and technical staff; organize and assign work accordingly, set priorities and follow-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work; provide input into performance evaluation.
• Perform complex and difficult in nature assignments; respond to highly sensitive, complete or technical complaints; validate the nature of the complaint and recommend solutions.
• Independently perform the full range of the Building Inspector I/II duties.
• Implement new or modified policies and procedures and train/develop other staff as required.
• Make presentations to groups and coordinate public meetings.

**Signing Bonus Qualification Criteria:

• First Installment of $2,500, the candidate must apply, qualify for and be hired (e.g. first time appointment) by CDSA.
• Second Installment of $2,500, the recently hired employee must successfully complete six months of County service (achieving a "meets standards" or above on the six-month performance evaluation).

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting to fill two vacancies and to establish an employment list for the classification of Social Worker II. Under general supervision, incumbents perform moderately complex social services case work by providing a variety of services to County residents; conducting field visits; identifying, assessing and arranging alternative solutions to clients’ needs and obstacles; carry a moderately complex caseload; prepare and monitor plans; prepare court reports, depending on area of assignment; and perform related work as assigned. The work may be related to a specific program area or to more general social service benefit provision. Social Worker II is the journey-level in the social work series. This position reports directly to a Social Worker Supervisor II or other higher-level supervisor or manager.

Example of Duties:

• Interview and counsel a diverse population of clients; isolate barriers to self-sufficiency; and evaluate need for services and/or make appropriate referrals to training, public assistance and social services programs.

• Successful completion of probationary period as a Public Safety Dispatcher I with the City of Santa Clara.

The County of Yuba is recruiting for the position of Social Worker III/III Master’s Level in the Child and Adult Protective Services Division of the Health & Human Services Department in an effort to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies. Under general supervision, incumbents are fully competent to independently perform the most complex and sensitive social services case work by providing a variety of services to County residents; identify, access and document abuse and neglect cases; provide counseling and support services to children and parents; refer clients to services; prepare detailed, complex court documents and testify in court as required; and perform related work as assigned. The San José Fire Department is recruiting to fill (3) three Hazardous Materials Inspector II positions in the Bureau of Fire Prevention Division. The Hazardous Materials Inspector II’s may be assigned to Hazardous Materials Development Services group to perform plan reviews and inspections, or to Hazardous Materials Code Enforcement group to conduct detailed field inspections at facilities storing, handling, or using hazardous materials including highly hazardous materials unique to Silicon Valley. Both group activities do cross over, as required for back up and special demands and for cross training, as needed.

 

The Hazardous Materials II inspector inspects, reviews, and enforces commercial and industrial facilities for compliance with the San Jose Fire Code, California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) regulations, CSFM adopted sections of the California Building Code Series, San Jose Hazardous Materials Storage Permit Ordinance, S and applicable National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) nationally recognized standards.

 

Duties for this position include, but may not be limited to:

 

• Providing technical assistance to facilities, consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, department officers/staff and the Fire Marshal on the application and/or interpretation of fire safety codes/regulations and on resolution of fire safety and hazardous materials issues identified in the design, construction or operations of buildings and integrated systems;

• Reviewing and analyze hazardous materials inventory statements for chemical classification;

• Reviewing and analyze hazardous materials business plans, construction documents, monitoring and treatment system plans for compliance with codes and regulations;

• Inspect commercial and industrial facilities and construction sites including reviewing facility maintenance records and document finding in inspections reports.

• Conducting enforcement as necessary including preparing citations and other administrative orders, conducting compliance meetings,

• Preparing enforcement cases for the City Attorney and District Attorney including the preparation of analytical data, reports, assisting in interpreting laws and regulations and providing court testimony, as required;

• Responding to complaint investigations for alleged violations of the aforementioned codes and standards.

• Assisting outside agencies and other City Departments including, Code Enforcement, Building Department, Planning Department, Public Works, and Environmental Services-Wastewater Pretreatment.

• Conduct public record request record searches

• Participate in the review of plans submitted for development projects for verification of code compliance with municipal codes.   

• Provide written plan review comments to development project applicants identifying discrepancies identified after compliance reviews.

• Conduct Hazardous Materials system installation and closure inspections for code compliance verification. 

• Assist with training of staff as requested.

 

Salary

Hazardous Materials Inspector II: $106,950.48 - $129,948.00 annually. This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.
