CIVIC FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland has established a paid summer fellowship program for individuals early in their career seeking public service experience. This program invests in our local work force and fosters a passion for careers in the public sector. During the eight (8)-week program, fellows will work with a city department and participate in program-wide activities.
Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, up to 40 hours per week. For more information, visit cityofwoodland.org/1429/Civic-Fellowship-Program.
This fellowship posting is for the Geographic Information System (GIS) Technician in the Information Technology (IT) Division.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The GIS Technician will conduct field survey work and data validation at the City Cemetery. The City recently migrated from a legacy plot management system which consisted of paper maps, post-it notes, excel spreadsheets, and a software system to manage plots. All four data sources were meticulously combined into a GIS database. Due to the validity of the data we need to conduct further data validation. The fellow will also start geotagging headstones and monuments. Additionally, the fellow will use City or any public data sets to create and explain a GIS dashboard.
