POSITION

To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current temporary/part-time vacancy in our Community Services Department and to create a list for future vacancies.

Candidates who do not currently meet the minimum qualifications for the Facilities Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for an Intern position instead.

Temporary employees work no more than 130 hours per month and 960 hours per fiscal year.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have previous facility maintenance experience, although not required. The Ideal Candidate will be able to follow directions, demonstrate good communication skills (orally and in writing), be flexible, have good attendance, a positive attitude and a willingness to take on new tasks as requested.  The ability to speak and understand Spanish is a desirable quality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

A primary function of this position is janitorial services. Will include set up and cleanup of special events. Prepare simple activity and related reports; maintain inventory and work records as required. Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned. Work cooperatively with others. Regular and consistent attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS
Facility Maintenance Worker I

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Six (6) months of work experience in carpentry, electrical and maintenance work is desirable.

SALARY
Facility Maintenance Worker I:                 
$21.12 - $26.96 per hour

Intern:                                                            
$16.50 - $20.50 per hour

WORK HOURS
Position works approximately 16-20 hours per week in the afternoons and evenings, and will require some weekend hours.

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the removal of blight from City property.  Positions allocated to this class are expected to perform skilled and complex maintenance including litter, weed, and debris removal duties and to work with third party contractors.

The purpose of the recruitment is to fill a current vacancy at the Woodland Police Department, Homeless Outreach Street Team, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have strong communication and customer service skills and possess the ability to mediate or de-escalate conflict. Candidates should possess an awareness of their surroundings and roadway dangers. They should be willing to work in a variety of conditions exposing them to inclement weather, as well as vehicle traffic. The ability to prioritize work and maintain deadlines would be ideal. Candidates should possess the ability to foster good working relationships with local business owners and other agencies and be able to work in a fast-paced environment where task completion is paramount.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Work to complete required duties for the City’s Blight Abatement Team such as removal of graffiti, removal of abandoned camps, litter clean-up, power washing, removal and clean-up of bio-hazards and human waste, removal of fallen leaves and minor landscaping clean-up, as well as assist in the execution and implementation of special events that take place within the City limits.
• Work in cooperation with staff from other City departments. 
• Fulfill the tasks assigned to them with attention to detail, speed, and a customer service-oriented attitude.
• Be self-directed in completing tasks and determining the next priority of work. 
• Comply with policies and procedures of the Department’s Illness and Injury Prevention Program.
• Utilize proper safety precautions and set a positive example for others. 
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance at City Hall or Police Department is an essential function of the position, in that the employee must be present at work to complete assigned tasks.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Provide general information to the public, other City departments, and vendors pertaining to area of assignment. Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment.  

The work environment is located primarily outdoors and consists of completing tasks involving litter, weed, debris and graffiti removal, painting and biohazard abatement. Additional tasks include cleaning of walkways, street gutters, alleyways, and landscape areas. Conditions range from working outside in all types of weather conditions. Some work will involve hazardous and unsanitary conditions. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without regular direct supervision. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.

Meet stand-by program requirements and serve in a stand-by status after regular working hours and respond to emergency call-outs.  Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, scheduling of work, and employee evaluations.   Requisition of materials and supplies for assigned facilities and projects.   Instruct subordinates in proper work techniques, use of equipment and safety practices and requirements. Work cooperatively with others.  Drive vehicles and equipment as required.  

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.  

Experience:

One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Maintenance

Worker I.

Bilingual:  Knowledge of a second language is beneficial.

License and Certificate:

Required upon hire, possession of valid Class C California Driver's License.

Forklift Certification, First Aid and CPR certifications, is required prior to permanent appointment.

Possession of a valid Class B or Class A California Driver's License is a plus.

SALARY

Community Enhancement Specialist
$4,804.06 - $6,131.34 /month
$2,217.26 - $2,829.85 /bi-weekly

Future salary growth includes 4% increase effective July 2024, a 1% increase effective January 2025, a 4% increase in July 2025 and a 1% increase effective January 2026.

The District 8 Council Office, supporting Councilmember Domingo Candelas, is recruiting for a Chief of Staff position. The position will work closely with the Councilmember and lead the staff support team for the Councilmember. The Airport Department is currently recruiting to fill a Maintenance Worker II vacancy within the Maintenance Services Section. The Airport Maintenance Services Section is responsible for the maintenance, repair and improvements to Airport building facilities and properties on a seven day a week, twenty-four hour a day operation schedule. The Maintenance Worker II position at Mineta San José International Airport may lead a crew and/or performs skilled and semi-skilled work in public facilities and airfield maintenance. 

Typical duties for this position include, but are but are not limited to: 

- Maintaining a large area campus, including repair of asphalt and landscape care. 

- Repairing roadways, sewers, and landscape care (mowing, edging, tree care) 

- General carpentry and door hardware 

- General interior plumbing (various pipes & fittings, restroom fixtures) 

- General building construction maintenance and repair (flooring, drywall, tile, etc)

Mineta San José International Airport is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Assistant.

The Maintenance Assistant position is responsible for raking leaves and debris, digging post holes, trimming hedges and trees, as well as cleaning large areas that contain debris, weeds, abandoned materials, catch basins and gutters. The Maintenance Assistant will also be required to safely operate pressure washers, scrubbers, sweepers, pick-up trucks, as well as tractors with flail mower attachments. Other responsibilities include assisting with forming, pouring and finishing of new concrete surfaces, and working on landscape projects near roadways, which may involve proper set-up of roadway markings and traffic control. In addition, this position will be responsible for planting ground covers, flowers, plants and trees, using a variety of soil amendments and fertilizers. The use of power hand tools for the maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures, doors, roofs, sanitary sewer line cleaning, changing lamps, emptying trash and picking up trash/debris in assigned areas will also be required.

Other duties may include:

- Digs holes, trenches, and ditches using picks, shovels, jack hammers, spades, cultivating forks, post hole diggers and other tools; loads, unloads, shovels, and rakes sand, gravel, dirt, fertilizer, loam, asphalt, and other materials.

- Participates in the repair of sewer lines, checking of sanitary sewers, laying of sewer pipes, and installation of sewer connections.

- Performs labor in the planting, cultivating, trimming, removing, watering, and spraying of lawns, plants and other vegetation.

- Mows and trims lawns, rakes leaves, hoes weeds, clears paths and trails, empties trash containers, cleans equipment, structures, and facilities, such as courts, swimming pools, park grounds, restrooms and work areas.

- Performs labor in the erecting of tree supports

- Sets up cones and barricades for traffic and safety control, may perform as a flag person.

- Lifts heavy weights.

- Operates small dump trucks, light flatbed trucks, portable cement mixers, small sweepers and other equipment.

- Uses tools such as air spades, tampers, picks, shovels, hoes, rakes, pruning shears, rototillers, trimmers, shears, edgers, loppers, pruners and other items.

- Uses general carpentry, mechanical and hand tools, such as saws, drills, wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, ladders and other tools.

- Is responsible for safe operation of equipment and tools.

- Is responsible for vehicle and pedestrian traffic safety in work areas.

- May provide information and deal with the public.

- May complete vandalism reports, work orders and other related service forms.

The City of Lincoln is accepting applications for the position of Refuse Truck Driver II in the Solid Waste division of the Public Works department. Under general supervision, this position performs the full array of duties in the Solid Waste division, including maintenance, operating collection vehicles and refuse equipment operation. This job classification is represented by the Classified, Local 39 employee group; the probation period is 12 months.

Open positions may be filled as regular/full-time or seasonal/part-time.  Seasonal positions are limited to 999 hours per fiscal year and are unbenefited, and may become regular/full-time positions, dependent upon the future needs of the department.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Refuse Truck Driver II is the journey-level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and refuse collection tasks. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Refuse Truck Driver in that the latter performs the more complex assignments and lead responsibilities. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

This position receives general supervision from the Solid Waste division’s Public Services Supervisor. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Performs general maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation and installation work in refuse collection.
• Operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; drives to landfill site when vehicle is full and unloads material; evaluates and updates assigned routes; cleans, maintains and inspects assigned vehicles; maintains daily logs.
• Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; may provide training to lower level staff; responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff, and the public.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS

The following are a representative sample of the KAS’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Under the general supervision of the Campbell Community Center Supervisor, the Building Attendant oversees proper use and rental activity at the City of Campbell Community Center and other City facilities. The Building Attendant assignments include working special events at various City facilities. The Building Attendant performs basic custodial duties (moving tables, chairs, set-up AV equipment, set-up athletic equipment, moping, sweeping, empty trashcans, etc.), ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of the facilities. The Building Attendant work schedule is primarily during the late afternoon/evening hours Monday - Friday, and on weekdays (both day/evening shifts). Occasional week-day shifts may be available.

Salary Range: $15.50 to $18.00 per hour DOQ
Part-Time, Temporary Non-Benefited position

Schedule:  Approximately 8-20 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours

Responsibilities: 

• Provides customer service to community center renters, class instructors and the general public at the Campbell Community Center;
• Opens buildings for scheduled events, performs set-up/take-down of tables, chairs, portable staging, dance floors, AV equipment, and other set-up equipment; supervises evening and weekend activities at the Community Center;
• Performs custodial tasks (emptying trash containers, cleaning tables, chairs, and restrooms, sweeping floors, etc.) as assigned. 
• Are responsible for the security of the site, as well as providing good public and customer relations;
• Additional responsibilities, as needed, may be assigned.

Qualifications: 

• Must be 18 years of age and equivalent to high school graduation.
• Must have a valid California Driver's License. 
• Must demonstrate the ability to work independently, follow oral and written instructions, display courteous public relations, and demonstrate safety and good judgment. 
• Previous experience in recreation, building maintenance, or customer service work is preferred.
