This position performs legal work in the enforcement of laws; prosecutes criminal cases as assigned by the District Attorney; advises the general public and law enforcement officers on criminal matters; and does related work as required. The position is at-will, temporary, part-time and scheduled for twenty-four (24) hours per week.
 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Reviews and prepares asset forfeiture cases.
• Researches and reviews laws as they impact cases pending.
• Meets and negotiates with defense attorneys on cases as needed.
• Prepares briefs and legal opinions; appears in court to prosecute cases; participates in preliminary hearings.
• Orders investigations and subpoenas; reviews search warrants; supervises and assists with case investigations.

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, plans, leads, assigns, schedules, and participates in the work of staff responsible for performing aquatics duties at the District’s aquatics facilities.  Assists with the day-to-day aquatics operations, ensures that facilities are prepared and maintained for public use.  Monitors activities in the water, pool, decks, and ancillary areas of District aquatics facilities to ensure the safety of patrons; explains and enforces aquatics policies, regulations, and rules; performs rescues and administers first aid, CPR, and AED as needed; and performs related work as required. 

Schedule: 30 hours per week. Schedule will vary, will include weekends.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the advanced journey-level classification in the Lifeguard classification series responsible for providing lead direction and training to lower-level staff and for ensuring that the District’s aquatics facilities are maintained in a safe and effective working condition.  Incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver services.  Work is reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.  This classification is distinguished from the Lifeguard II by the assignment of more complex tasks requiring a greater level of technical and specialized knowledge and a higher degree of independent judgment, including serving in a lead capacity over lower level staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Plans, leads, assigns, directs, and participates in the work of staff responsible for performing lifeguard duties at the District’s aquatics facilities; assigns lifeguard staff to daily rotation schedules, ensuring proper coverage at all times.
2. Receives and responds to questions, concerns, and complaints from patrons; determines issues and resolves or refers to Aquatics Coordinator or Aquatics Supervisor as appropriate.
3. Assists Aquatics Coordinator in leading training sessions, including safety drills and other emergency procedures; ensures that lifeguard staff attend required trainings and maintains records on same.
4. Provides aquatic safety and supervision for patrons; monitors activities in the water, pool decks, and ancillary areas of District aquatics facilities to prevent accidents and to ensure the safety and well-being of patrons.
5. Implements and monitors District policies and procedures; enforces aquatics regulations; cautions patrons regarding unsafe activities.
6. Performs the work of lower-level staff, including, but not limited to, all required lifeguard-training skills and class instruction as needed.
7. Monitors facility use; ensures that the facility is opened, closed, and secured in compliance with District practices and procedures and that the pool and restrooms are maintained in a safe, neat, and clean condition.
8. Inspects and maintains swimming and pool equipment for functionality; ensures proper placement and availability in the pool area; recommends maintenance and repair as needed.
9. Maintains records of participation and completes required reports.
10. Assists with District special events as needed.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED;

AND

• Two years of relevant aquatics experience serving in an aquatics facility.

OR

• Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. 

Knowledge of:

• Principles of leadership in an aquatics environment.
• Principles and techniques of all lifeguarding skills.
• Organization and operation of the aquatics facilities, including maintenance, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
• Relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Licenses and Certifications:

At time of appointment, and maintained throughout employment possession of:

• California Driver’s License, with a satisfactory driving record,
• American Red Cross Lifeguard certification,
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification,
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is primarily performed within a public swimming pool environment, where stamina is needed to perform moderate to heavy lifting of pool equipment and furniture or children and adults who may require removal from the pool, and to stay in the pool for prolonged periods.  Must possess the mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, push and pull materials and equipment, and swim while wearing an appropriate uniform with protective equipment.  Vision and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions and/or situations.  Must also possess:  the mobility to work in an office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or by using a telephone and radio.  Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or to operate safety equipment.  Must possess the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work outdoors in a pool environment with wet and slippery conditions, and are exposed to variable weather conditions; may be exposed to chlorine, acids, and other chemicals at aquatics facilities, as well as blood and body fluids while rendering first aid and CPR.  Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.

Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting is desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess: mobility to perform medium physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The classification supports indoor and outdoor programs requiring frequent walking, running, conducting exercises, and related physical activities. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, or tools and equipment used in assigned program area. Program activities may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; the ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for Extra Help-Cook within the Yuba County Jail. Under close supervision, prepares and provides institutional meals following federal and state nutritional guidelines, and performs other duties as assigned.  Yuba County staffs the Cook classification at the County Jail division in the Sheriff’s department  This position performs a full range of tasks associated with the preparation and distribution of meals to juvenile detainees and adult inmates.  The incumbent ensures that properly prepared nutritional meals are produced in a large volume, institutional setting.  Responsibilities also include overseeing detainees and/or inmates and institution workers assisting with food preparation. 

For successful performance, the incumbent would be required to have knowledge of principles, methods and equipment used in high volume meal preparation in an institutional setting; basic food groups and nutritional values; safe work practices related to food preparation, storage and service; basic business arithmetic; and basic inventory and record keeping principles and practices. Skill in overseeing and preparing meals in a large scale, institutional setting; overseeing and training others in basic cooking and work procedures; operating, cleaning and performing minor maintenance to large institutional food preparation and cooking equipment; maintaining accurate records and preparing work related reports; directing others in work procedures; and reading, understanding and following recipes and oral and written directions. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff.   The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated.  The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The City of Auburn is hiring a part-time Bus Driver I/II.  Under general supervision, this position operates a bus over designated routes to transport passengers; maintains established schedule; and ensures passenger safety.

This position is limited to work no more than 999 hours per fiscal year and is considered half-time. Placement in the classification is dependent on qualifications. The salary range for each level is below:

• Bus Driver I:  $45,864 - $58,552
• Bus Driver II:  $48,152 - $61,484

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Drive a bus over a designated route to transport passenger in accordance with established time schedule; follow all rules and regulations including those in the vehicle code and motor carries commercial diver’s handbook.
• Pick up and off load passengers at pre-arranged locations; assist passengers in boarding and departing the bus; secure all wheelchairs with proper devices.
• Collect fares and issue passes to passengers.

Receives immediate supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and direction from higher-level staff.  Exercises no supervision over staff.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the entry-level classification in the Lifeguard series.  Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn to perform essential lifeguard duties.  Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern.  Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.  As experience is gained, assignments become more varied; close supervision and frequent review of work is reduced as an incumbent demonstrates the skills necessary to perform the work independently. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under general supervision, opens, closes, and secures the pool facility; monitors activities in the water, pool decks, and ancillary areas of aquatics facilities to ensure the safety of patrons; explains and enforces swimming programs and pool policies, regulations, and rules.  Performs rescues and administers first aid, CPR, and AED as needed; prepares facilities and sets up equipment for special activities and events; and performs related work as required.

Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and direction from higher-level staff.  Exercises no supervision over staff.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level classification in the Lifeguard series responsible for performing the full range of lifeguard duties, including patron safety and opening/closing an assigned pool facility.  Incumbents at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the aquatics operating procedures and policies.  This classification is distinguished from the Aquatics Lead in that the latter is an advanced journey-level classification which provides technical and functional direction over assigned lifeguard staff.

1. Provides aquatic safety and supervision for patrons; monitors activities in the water, pool decks, and ancillary areas of District aquatics facilities to prevent accidents and to ensure the safety and well-being of patrons.
2. Implements and monitors District policies and procedures; enforces aquatics regulations; cautions patrons regarding unsafe activities.
3. Responsible for opening, closing, and securing the facility, including setting and disarming alarm systems; checking equipment and placing in the proper location; covers and uncovers the pool; sets or removes lane lines; powers up and turns off electrical equipment and computers; ensures pool area is cleared prior to closing facility.
4. Prepares facilities and sets up equipment for scheduled aquatics activities and events; may assist in the implementation of aquatics programs and special events.
5. Performs all required lifeguard-training skills as needed.
6. Assists and aids in swim lesson programs under the direction of assigned Swim Instructor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

THE POSITION:

The Police Officer Trainee position is an entry level position, requiring no prior law enforcement experience.
