THE POSITION

The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for staff to assist with events at the Rocklin Events Center and other locations in the City. The Events Venue Specialist (Program Assistant) is a temporary position and incumbents work on an as-needed basis, not to exceed 28 hours per week and up to 999 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employment does not provide any guarantee of continued employment and the City of Rocklin may end the assignment at any time. Temporary employees are not eligible for any other benefits except where required by law and there is no guarantee of future permanent employment.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Performs light janitorial duties (e.g., empty trash, clean restrooms, and restock supplies) before, during, and after events.
• Sets up audio visual equipment at venue site.
• Checks clients in and out of City venues.
• Takes prospective renters on tours of facilities and answers questions about pricing and equipment at each rental location.
• Ensures client needs are met.

THE  SCHEDULE 

A typical schedule looks like this:  

Evening and Night shifts Sunday through Thursday

Shifts vary from 7am - 1am Friday and Saturday

Night and weekend availability is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be 18 years of age

Six (6) months of volunteer or work experience in the area assigned is highly desirable

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. 

We are now hiring part-time Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors for our aquatics programs!

Located at the McBean Memorial Pool, our Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors are an essential part of the aquatics recreational programs that we offer our residents.  Be a part of a team that makes teaches important swimming skills and allows everyone to beat the heat and have fun!

We are looking for candidates with qualities such as reliability, creativity, dependability and enthusiasm.  The aquatics programs will require you to work various days, weekends or evenings, but we are flexible with schedules.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Maintain constant surveillance as assigned to safeguard swimmers from drowning and other accidents.
• Maintain discipline and orderly conduct among patrons and enforce all pertinent City pool rules and regulations in order to maintain a safe environment. 
• Promote and enforce water safety procedures; effect swimming rescues; render first aid and CPR as required. 
• Assist in conducting classes at all participant skill levels (beginning through advanced) and supervise the conduct of swimmers in City pool in order to maintain a safe environment. 
• Perform pool facility maintenance functions as required. 
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service. 
• Perform related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The incumbent needs to have the ability to hear and speak for purposes of communication. The position also requires both near and far vision when administering programs and operating equipment. The need to lift, carry and push equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. The incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS

The following are a representative sample of the KAS’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge of:  Principles and techniques of swimming instruction for various age groups; principles and practices of water safety and swimming rescue techniques; proper stroke mechanics; principles and techniques of CPR and first aid; practices and methods of public relations and customer service; techniques and principles of effective interpersonal communication.

Ability to: On a continuous basis, know and understand operations and observe safety rules’ walk; swim with proficiency and endurance; render life saving measures; interpret policies and procedures, and explain operations and problem solve issues for the public and with staff. 
Intermittently set up equipment, move and carry supplies and equipment; lift or carry weight of 45 pounds or less; prevent accidents and conduct effective rescues; understand and translate City policies and practices into everyday working practices; make sound decisions and solid problem solving methods; respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner; administer first aid and CPR; work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions; understand and carry out written and oral directions; communicate tactfully with customers; communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing; promote and enforce safety procedures including proper use of equipment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

The process may include an in-basket exercise, individual interviews, panel interviews and/or other related components.  Only those candidates who have the best combination of qualifications in relation to the requirements and duties of the position will continue in the selection process. Under direct supervision of the Special Program Coordinator, provides fun and safe activities pre-teens 6th through 8th grade. Hiring for summer camp positions ASAP!

Ideal Candidate:

The Ideal Candidate will desire working with youth or teens in a recreational environment. The candidate should be comfortable leading a group of youth or teens through arts & craft projects and field games. We are seeking individuals that communicate clearly and show excellent attendance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Conduct various recreational activities, teach arts and crafts, assist in tournaments, or do related work as assigned; coach and supervise sports activities; assist with special events; assist in implementing emergency procedures; enforce park rules and regulations; follow city policies and procedures; and completes other assigned duties.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Working with youth and/or teens in organized, well-structured activities.

Knowledge of:

Emergency and safety procedures, supervision skills and age appropriate recreational activities.

Ability to:

Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; understand and carry-out oral and written instructions; work cooperatively with other people contacted in the course of work; and interact successfully with youth and teens.

Requirements

Leader I: must be at least 16 years of age upon appointment, interested in recreation activities and desire to work with youth.

Leader II: education equivalent to graduation from high school, background in recreation, ECE, and other fields working with children.

Certificates:

Standard First Aid Certificate and Community Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate required. Training opportunities provided upon hiring.

Work Permit:

All appointees under age 18 will be required to have a work permit prior to beginning work.

Salary:                                    
Activity Leader I:  $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
Activity Leader II: $16.50 - $17.50 per hour
(Five step scale based on experience and years of service)

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting to establish an employment list for the classification of Social Worker II. Under general supervision, incumbents perform moderately complex social services case work by providing a variety of services to County residents; conducting field visits; identifying, assessing and arranging alternative solutions to clients’ needs and obstacles; carry a moderately complex caseload; prepare and monitor plans; prepare court reports, depending on area of assignment; and perform related work as assigned. Example of Duties:

• Interview and counsel a diverse population of clients; isolate barriers to self-sufficiency; and evaluate need for services and/or make appropriate referrals to training, public assistance and social services programs.
• Perform case management of moderately complex cases.
• Conduct field/home visits, assessments, and reassessments as required to monitor and investigate progress and compliance
• Prepare and review court pleadings, depending on area of assignment.
