The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department creates and activates thriving places where people live, work, play, and learn, which include 46 community centers, 10 regional parks, 202 neighborhood parks, Happy Hollow Park and Zoo, 293 playgrounds and almost 65 miles of trails, and programs and services that touch the lives of individuals and families in our community.

In partnership with the Director, the Assistant Director provides leadership of the organization and strategic guidance to the four Deputy Directors. Reporting to the Director, this position is charged with running the complex day-to-day operations of the agency with 575 full-time staff and nearly 300 part-time staff (benefited and unbenefited) and an operating budget of approximately $30 million along with revenue sources including capital, grants, revenue generation and other special funds.

THE POSITION

The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for staff to assist with events at the Rocklin Events Center and other locations in the City. The Events Venue Specialist (Program Assistant) is a temporary position and incumbents work on an as-needed basis, not to exceed 28 hours per week and up to 999 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employment does not provide any guarantee of continued employment and the City of Rocklin may end the assignment at any time. Temporary employees are not eligible for any other benefits except where required by law and there is no guarantee of future permanent employment.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Performs light janitorial duties (e.g., empty trash, clean restrooms, and restock supplies) before, during, and after events.
• Sets up audio visual equipment at venue site.
• Checks clients in and out of City venues.
• Takes prospective renters on tours of facilities and answers questions about pricing and equipment at each rental location.
• Ensures client needs are met.

THE  SCHEDULE 

A typical schedule looks like this:  

Evening and Night shifts Sunday through Thursday

Shifts vary from 7am - 1am Friday and Saturday

Night and weekend availability is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be 18 years of age

Six (6) months of volunteer or work experience in the area assigned is highly desirable

Licenses and Certifications

The Department: The Suisun City Police Department is a progressive and proactive law enforcement agency. THE POSITION
Join us this summer season for a fun and engaging employment opportunity as a Senior Lifeguard to support the City of Rocklin's upcoming aquatic program and activities taking place at the Rocklin High School pool.

This class is distinguished from the Lifeguard by overall program responsibilities, training and experience. Senior Lifeguards serve as the Lead Lifeguard in providing technical and functional direction over Lifeguards.

Senior Lifeguards play a critical role in ensuring courteous and professional service to all pool attendees, including:

• Providing surveillance of swimmers and guests during City run swim hours. 
• Enforcing rules and regulation of City run aquatic facilities.
• Responding to emergency situations at assigned facilities. Administering and coordinating emergency first aid, as necessary.
• Providing superior customer service to all guests by assisting in a polite and expedient manner.
• Assisting the Parks and Recreation Supervisor with overseeing the safe and proper operation of assigned pool lifeguards. 
• Maintains order with disruptive patrons and exercises crowd control where warranted; refers escalated issues to the Parks and Recreation Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One season of experience performing duties similar to that of a Lifeguard. Senior Lifeguard experience is highly desirable.

Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment.

 

REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

• Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate, or equivalent, by date of appointment.
• Possession of a current American Red Cross CPR/AED certificate, or equivalent, by date of appointment. (Obtained in ARC Lifeguard Certification)

This is a temporary, part-time, at-will classification that assists the Parks and Recreation Department with City aquatic programs and activities. Temporary employees typically work less than twenty-eight (28) hours per week, not to exceed 990 hours in a fiscal year (July 1st through June 30th). The City of American Canyon Parks & Recreation Department invites energetic, creative and responsible individuals to apply for the position of Program Coordinator. Program Coordinators are part-time, temporary staff members who work under Recreation Coordinators to oversee and implement a wide range of recreation programming. Program Coordinators may be asked to provide recreation leadership, supervision, and assistance in various recreation programs, including day camp, youth and adult sports, special events and outdoor spaces.

This position is well-suited for applicants with experience as a Recreation Leader or Youth Leader, can work independently, and effectively lead staff members.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

To operate a computer aided dispatch (CAD) and radio system, receiving calls and dispatching public safety equipment and personnel, and maintaining public safety records and reports.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Serves as a relief Public Safety Dispatcher. The Reserve Dispatcher performs the routine tasks and duties assigned to Public Safety Dispatchers working on-call and subject to various shifts and workday assignments including nights, weekends and holidays.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives immediate supervision from sworn or other supervisory personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Receive emergency and non-emergency telephone calls from the public and other jurisdictions.

·         Dispatch police personnel and equipment in response to such calls; transfer fire and medical                communications to appropriate agencies.

·         Relay emergency and non-emergency information to public safety personnel in the field.

·         Relay information to other agencies as required; search and relay warrant information.

·         Monitor multiple radio frequencies; maintain status of public works units, as necessary.

·         Maintain accurate record of location and status of public safety units.

·         Monitor security cameras and monitors for the various city facilities.

EXAMINATION PROCESS 

Those applicants who meet the employment qualifications will be contacted via email regarding next steps in the recruitment process, a comprehensive multitasking test that assesses memory recall, map reading, spelling, sentence clarity, reading comprehension and data entry. SELECTION PROCESS

Application Evaluation:  The qualifications of each applicant, as set forth in the application, will be continuously reviewed by the Police Department and Human Resources. Applicants who pass the initial Application Evaluation Test will advance to the next testing phase, the Interview.   Note: Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee advancement in the selection process.  

Those candidates who successfully pass the Interview phase of testing will be certified to a Hiring Eligibility List and the top three (3) scorers will be referred to the Police Department for a selection interview with the Chief of Police.  A select number of candidates will be authorized by the Chief to advance to the Background Investigation, including Fingerprinting.

• Operate hand and power mowers, edgers, saws, pruners, tractors, tractor attachments such as back hoes and loaders, sprayers, trucks, blowers, etc.
• Prune, plant, and irrigate turf, landscape and trees.
• Install, repair, and adjust landscape sprinkler systems.
• Identify plant disease, nutrient, watering and related problems.
• Perform basic carpentry and concrete work required for vandalism repair and park improvements.
• Maintain sanitary and safe swimming pool conditions including sampling and adding chemicals, and maintaining gas chlorine systems.
• Mix and apply pesticides and fertilizers.
• Ability to perform or learn to perform traffic control setups necessary to complete daily assignments.
• Ability to operate or learn to operate a computer and work-related software.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Able to read, speak and write English
• Incumbents assigned to this job classification are subject to Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Regulations if they possess a Class B driver’s license and opt to utilize the license on the job.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Previous work experience involving groundskeeping, horticulture, and irrigation is preferred.

Parks Maintenance Worker II:

• Three years of work experience involving groundskeeping

LIFEGUARD / INSTRUCTOR

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard provides a safe environment for all types of aquatic programs.  The Lifeguard prevents loss of life or injury to patrons and at times performs related maintenance duties.  Some evening and weekend hours are required.  Mandatory pre-season in-service training sessions will be held in June. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Enforces pool rules and regulations; rescues persons in distress and renders First Aid /CPR when necessary; maintains pool records and reports, including program registration and safety reports; follows City policies and procedures; and performs other assigned duties, as required.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

Age Requirement:      

• At least 15 years of age.

 

Experience:                

• Recommended exposure to: swimming lessons instruction or working with young people in an organized environment, and/or participation in the Junior Lifeguard program, or experience as an Instructor’s Aide, or Lifeguard.

 

Knowledge of:           

• Lifeguard rescue and life-saving techniques.
• American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program and basic pool policies and procedures. Or equivalent

 

Ability to:                   

• Demonstrate all Lifeguard Training skills.
• Proficiently swim and demonstrate swimming skills
• Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
• Work with other people contacted in the course of employment

 

Education & Certifications:        

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training with CPR and First Aid (or equivalent)
• Ability to obtain training in First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22 equivalent)

 

SALARY

$18.00 – $19.00 per hour - Scale based on experience and years of service.
