Under direct supervision of the Pool Supervisor, The Lifeguard has the responsibility to enforce the safety standards, rules, and regulations of the City’s Pool program; to rescue swimmers in distress and administer First Aid and CPR when it is needed; This position includes ensuring the safety of all pool patrons, be alert of all activities in and around the pool while on duty and to assist with general maintenance and cleanup activities and performs related work as required. Work is performed in a swimming facility environment, with frequent contact with City staff and the public. Multiple Lifeguard positions are available.

Unique physical characteristics include – physical strength, endurance, and agility necessary to perform lifesaving activities; visual acuity and hearing in each ear are sufficient to complete the job's essential functions. Must be observant, friendly, helpful, enthusiastic, responsible, and work well in a team. Must pass a general background check and fingerprinting to determine suitability for working with children.

- Education and Experiences:
- Lifeguard I – Completion of the 10th grade (Must be at Least 16 Years Old) and possession of advanced lifesaving or water safety Instructor’s Certificate. Valid Driver’s License. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate. American Red Cross First Aid (either multi-media, standard, or advanced). American Red Cross or American Heart of Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.
- Lifeguard II – Graduation from high school and/or GED and experience as a lifeguard and possessing advanced lifesaving or water safety Instructor’s Certificate. Valid Driver’s License. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate. American Red Cross First Aid (either multi-media, standard, or advanced). American Red Cross or American Heart of Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.
