THE POSITION

The Recreation Leader position may be assigned to the following areas:

Community Events/Festivals: Under general supervision, this assignment supports city-wide special events with set-up and take-down of furniture and equipment; enforcing safety rules and regulations; and maintaining orderly participant conduct at various events.

Dublin Senior Center: Under general supervision, this assignment includes setting up and cleaning community recreational facilities before, during and after activities and rentals.

Family Programs: Under general supervision, this assignment supports the After School Program, Student Union, and summer camp activities. Duties also include developing and directing weekly lesson plans and activities.

Heritage Park and Museums: Under general supervision, this assignment includes setting up and cleaning community recreational facilities before, during and after activities and rentals. This position will also provide facility and exhibit orientations and/or tours including appropriate tour materials.

Park Monitor: Under general supervision, this assignment monitors patrons, patrols parks and enforce rules at City of Dublin parks to ensure that permit areas are safe, clean, functional; and notify the Police Services as to any irregularities when appropriate.

Preschool Program: Under general supervision, this assignment assists with organization and instruction of preschool classes for children 18 months through 5 years. Duties also include developing and directing weekly lesson plans and activities.

Shannon Community Center: Under general supervision, this assignment oversees the proper use of a community recreational facility; performs a variety of custodial tasks; and assists the public and staff in their use of the facility.

Sports Programs: Under general supervision, this assignment is responsible for officiating a variety of sports league events and also serves as official scorer-of-record at sports events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, oversee, and conduct recreational activities in program areas such as preschool, playground, parks, after school programming, teens, sports, museum, special events, and senior citizen activities.
• Conduct activities in areas such as arts and crafts, games, sports, music, drama, and nature study. Instruct participants in the rules and methods of playing indoor and outdoor games.
• Inspect activity areas and related equipment, make written reports of damage to equipment or facility and recommend maintenance and repair, as appropriate.
• Enforce safety rules and regulations; maintain orderly participant conduct.
• Provide minor first aid to recreation program participants/spectators and/or perform related first aid/emergency techniques.
• Exercise precautions necessary to ensure the safety of recreation program participants and spectators.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Open and close facilities as scheduled for use; clean up after facility users and set up for subsequent activities; secure the facility upon leaving.
• Set up furniture or equipment for activities scheduled and see that it is in proper condition and is replaced after use.
• Sweep and mop floors as required; keep restrooms and kitchen clean and well stocked with paper towels, tissues, etc.; empty trash receptacles throughout the facility as necessary.
• Responsible for monitoring adherence to building rules and party limitations. Maintain records and complete written program plans and reports.
• When work assignments are in public area of assigned facility, greet visitors, collect fees, have visitors sign guest book.
• Provide facility and exhibit orientations and/or tours including appropriate tour materials.
• Develop weekly lesson plans; plan and direct lessons, games, crafts and songs for after school and pre-school programs.
• Function as supervising attendant for evening rentals and weekday evening shifts, as necessary. Monitor patrons, patrol parks and enforce rules to ensure that permit areas are safe, clean, and functional; notify Dublin Police Services as deemed necessary.
• Observe park conditions to ensure that permit areas, including picnic areas and fields are within appropriate standards.
• Post City information as required and remove outdated and or unauthorized notices. Confirm reservations for specific permitted areas; resolve conflicts when appropriate.
• Make determinations and interpretations regarding reservations for specific permitted areas.
• Provide advice and information on park and recreation regulations to the public when requested and/or as needed; prepare incident reports and related documentation as needed.
• Train and oversee activities of part-time staff, as assigned.
• Ensure that activities operate in accordance with general department philosophy, objectives and guidelines.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

This Recreation Leader must be available to work on weekends, Friday-Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., 10-12 hour shifts, with occasional weekdays/weeknights. Hours may vary dependent on the number of facility rentals, classes, and meetings that are booked.

Supervision Received and Exercised: 
Receive general supervision from a Recreation Coordinator.
 
May receive technical and/or functional supervision from a Program Specialist. Exercise technical and functional supervision over Recreation Aide.

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships, engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving, and leveraging financial and volunteer resources. The Department’s nationally and internationally recognized programs support thousands of residents throughout their life course, from infants to elders. The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community. AFS has a Senior InfoLine (phone and email) that is answered in 4 language (Farsi, English, Spanish and Chinese) that is often an entry point. As an older adult or their caregiver’s situation changes, they seamlessly have access to a continuum of programs that include counseling and emotional support; care coordination and resource assistance; specialized family caregiver support and education. Many of these supportive services are provided in the resident’s home. The Position

Under the supervision of the Age Well Center Managers, the Chef/Food Services Manager position manages meal programs for the City of Fremont’s Age Well Centers. Chef responsibilities across both Age Well Center locations include the performance of menu planning, purchasing of foodstuffs, preparing quantity meals, supervising and assisting kitchen employees and volunteers and maintaining clean and orderly kitchens.

The incumbent will be responsible for properly cooked, economical, and wholesome, well balanced meals in City operated Age Well Centers. This position is not limited to being responsible for the assignment of work, supervision and evaluation of paid and volunteer food service workers. The review and approval of proposed menus, food purchases, control and monitoring of expenditure rates; and institution of disciplinary actions are functions reserved for the Program Coordinator or Age Well Center Managers.

SENIOR RECREATION LEADER

Part-time Position

Summary Description

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor/coordinator, the Senior Recreation Leader is responsible for implementing programs at a given site, including administering program curriculum and supervising program staff.  This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly wage position without City-paid benefits.  Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices:

The City of American Canyon Parks & Recreation Department invites energetic, creative and responsible individuals to apply for the position of Program Coordinator. Program Coordinators are part-time, temporary staff members who work under Recreation Coordinators to oversee and implement a wide range of recreation programming. The Department

The Position

Under the supervision of a Human Services Department Homeless Care and Response Senior Program Coordinator, the Public Service Assistant II supports the provision of mobile dignity services, which include showers and laundry services, at one or more sites, to unhoused participants in the Fremont  and Newark area. The job includes driving a truck and hygiene unit trailer with a combined length of up to 51 feet, to one or more sites daily, and carrying out set-up, operating, and maintenance tasks. Other duties include working with site-based volunteers to coordinate shower usage, provide shower amenities, distribute clothing and other necessities, operate washing and drying machines, register unhoused participants who will be utilizing the service, maintain the daily usage count, and conduct special surveys.

This position will require up to 20 hours of work per week.

Examples of Duties

Coordination Functions

• Works with the Senior Program Coordinator to partner with volunteers at multiple service sites to provide mobile shower and laundry services for unhoused participants.
• Ensures accurate completion of Homeless Management Information System (InHOUSE/HMIS) intake form by clients utilizing shower and laundry services.
• Ensures all supplies needed for services and intake are available on the unit for service delivery at each site.
• Unhoused participants will place their clothes and other personal items needing to be laundered in mesh bags. Public Service Assistant II will place mesh bags in the washer/dryer and operate machines.
• Reinforces training provided by Senior Program Coordinator to volunteers on intake and record keeping processes.
• Communicates effectively and frequently with Human Services staff and other community organizations serving the homeless to identify and make referrals for homeless clients who need assistance accessing other services.
• Prepares a daily report with general client demographics, daily usage data, and incident reports. Prepares, in writing, a variety of operating reports such driving activity reports, accident reports and maintenance reports.

Driving Functions

• Drives and operates 19-foot truck (truck), pulling a 32-foot mobile hygiene trailer (trailer) to multiple services sites.
• Sets up trailer at multiple services sites (1-2 per day), including setting front-to-back and side-to-side trailer level using stabilizer jacks and trailer tongue jack, chocking trailer wheels, connecting generator to trailer, turning on generator and opening propane gas lines, lowering ADA ramp, and setting up portable steps to facilitate access to trailer.
• Loads and unloads heavy items (such as various types of cleaning and laundry supplies). Ensures that loads are properly and safely secured.
• Responsible for basic daily maintenance of the mobile hygiene unit, including: Checking oil and fluid level, and tire pressure,
• Filling and maintaining fuel levels for truck-mounted generator,
• Filling and maintaining water levels for 400-gallon water tanks which supplies water for showers and laundry washer,
• Filling and maintaining on-board propane tanks needed to operate hot-water heaters, Periodic washing of the exterior.
• Emptying black and grey water into City corporation yard dump station or other remote dump stations, on a daily basis.
• Cleaning of interior shower units after each use by a participant; conducts periodic deep cleaning of shower units and pressure washing of exterior of unit.
• Works with City Fleet supervisor to coordinate monthly/annual automotive and chassis repairs and maintenance.
• Utilizes cell phone and tablet for information and safety.

Under general supervision, this full-time, benefited position develops and participates in the full range of routine to complex professional library services for the community, including the development of programs and services; identification of current community needs and the projection of future needs; and performs related work as assigned.
 
TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to: 

• Participates in budget preparation and administration; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for budget items; monitors and controls expenditures; performs grant-writing activities for assigned specialized area.
• Provides supervision to professional, technical, and paraprofessional staff and volunteers.
